Chapter 1.
(Elena's POV)
Crash!
The smell became stronger. I couldn't help but react. The stench was so horrible.
"What's that foul smell?" I thought silently. I was on the bed, laying like a dead body. I waited patiently without moving an inch.
As I laid against the bed with my nose still battling with the horrible stench, my mind drifted off to all that had happened to me the previous days. They were so memorable.
Where should I start from?
The most memorable event happened during the full moon. I remembered transforming during that period. According to my Alpha guardian, the process was long overdue.
Truthfully, I had always been expecting my body to react to the werewolf genes buried deep inside me. It took my body quite a long time to comprehend and absorb that though. However, it wasn't so bad now that my body finally reacted.
I was an orphan and I used to be wolfless not until the just concluded full moon ceremony. I transformed at that period in the presence of many people. It got me slightly embarrassed but happy as well.
You might think I'm living a very happy life…
You are very wrong if you had thought that. I am not living the life of my dreams at all. In fact, I am living in bondage, slavery, and extortion. I do not have the right to my own movement. I was strictly restricted from associating with the outside world. I was only expected to stay in the mansion all day and sleep. I was not even supposed to live like a normal person with a social life. The kind of life I live is one which I won't even wish my worst enemy.
I was even…
"Elena!" I heard loudly. The voice came from the entrance to my room. The voice sounded so familiar.
"Yes," I muttered as a form to heed the call. "Who is there?"
Now, I could hear footsteps approaching the room. Even the footsteps were familiar. I could tell the person who was invading.
It was Evander!
Yes, I couldn't be mistaken. I have lived with Evander for I long time, and I couldn't mistake him for someone else. All his movements were distinct and this helped me further to identify him. I could separate his voice, moves, actions, and other behavioral characteristics from a million others. He was no doubt, a special person in my life.
Here we go again. Don't misunderstand, I didn't have so much sweet memories with him.
Evander interrupted my thoughts and barged in. His movements were offensive. I didn't need an oracle to tell me that.
I stood up right away. Over the years, I had learnt to respect Evander unconditionally no matter his attitude. This was the key to my survival all through the tough years with him.
Wait! Do you know who Evander is?
Oh no, I haven't introduced him yet.
Evander had been my guardian for a while now. He offered to be my guardian after I discovered some special prowess which I possessed. His mannerisms haven't been too cool to me but I could manage.
Evander was also the Alpha of The Thornswood pack where I belonged as well. He is ruthless, cunning, and smart. He is very disciplined and he doesn't take betrayals likely. I have seen him personally strangle his servants and guards to death all because they betrayed him. One of the incidents I witnessed happened about five years back. At that time, I was quite young and naive.
Hmm!
(FLASHBACK)
"Emmaus!" Evander called. "Will you confess or keep silent over this matter?"
Emmaus looked down and said nothing. He was probably undecided. I understood how he would be feeling at that moment.
Emmaus was Evander's personal servant. He was in charge of Evander's bath and clothing. He was very trusted in the pack and this made people stay endeared to him. They loved his so much.
Apart from being diligent, Emmaus was also smart. This earned him some more endearment.
Despite the excessive love which Evander and the people in the pack showed Emmaus, he went ahead to stand against the whole pack when the enemy invaded. It turned out that Emmaus was only an informant and his real mission in the pack was to organize a small militia to help in creating insider attacks against the Thornswood pack.
Unfortunately for Emmaus, his game plan didn't suceed as he also had men who betrayed him and handed him over to Evander.
"Emmaus! Will you talk now or I strangle you to death?" Evander shouted at Emmaus angrily. I could see fury clearly in Evander's eyes.
I remained shocked where I stood.
"Calm down, Alpha Evander…" I heard Emmaus offer. He was looking cool. He betrayed no fear.
Jeez!
Instantly, Evander began to laugh. His laughter went harder as time passed by. All I did was to watch, I didn't know what else to do. Staying in a tensed room with Evander, Emmaus, and some guards had its own strange effects.
I had a mixed feeling of fear, doubt, and shock. The emotions blended together perfectly.
"You are so funny, jerk," Evander addressed Emmaus. "How dare you tell me to calm down! Don't you have any fear or regard for me?"
Evander was clearly angry. I could see the steam in his eyes.
"Shut it, Evander!" Emmaus screamed in anger.
This was lit!
Emmaus had just addressed Evander without adding the right title made for Evander.
This was trouble.
The rest was history. Evander was finally pissed off. With extreme anger, Evander ran towards Emmaus and pinned him to the wall. Evander punched Emmaus severally on the face, making the latter bleed profusely.
Right in my presence, Evander strangled…
(END OF FLASHBACK)
Oh!
That was Evander making his way in. He had just disturbed my reminiscing.
"Where the hell are you?" Evander shouted. He was heading in violently.
He was addressing me. I knew that for sure.
Oh my goodness!
Was that trouble knocking on my door?
