Chapter 2: A new pack member

1673 Words
Markus had joined mom in the overprotectiveness then. He didn’t let anyone in the pack know what I was because he didn’t know what it meant yet or how it would affect them. So I had to live with most of the pack thinking I had the literal mind of a child, which really hindered my chances of finding myself a mate. The men ruffling my hair or talking to me in that high-pitched tone people used for young kids wasn’t what I was looking for at all, but Markus had given me one of his ‘if looks could kill’ stares when I’d dared mention just explaining I was an omega. I’d done a little research of my own about omegas and all I could find about them was that they were peacemakers in the pack, which perfectly explained to me why I was so happy and cheerful all the time and playful. I don’t know how long I had been hanging out in my room, but clearly it was a while because I heard my name being called. I looked over the balcony of the stairs and saw it was Lydia. Grinning, I ran down the stairs and threw myself into her arms, forcing her to catch me as I wrapped my legs around her waist. I threw myself a little too hard, which resulted in her falling and crashing back against the wall, which was the only thing that saved us from crashing to the floor in a heap. “Jesus, Mary and Joseph! You’re going to be the death of me one of these days,” Lydia gasped when her back hit the wall. She managed to stand back up with me still in her arms and whispered, “you know if you want a mate, throwing yourself onto people might not be the best way to go about it.” This was one of the reasons I loved Lydia. She treated me like an adult, she knew I was perfectly my age mentally, ok, sure I was immature sometimes, but it was fun and I said as much, “but it’s so much more fun!” She rolled her eyes at me and put me down. “What did you want?” I asked. “Markus wanted everyone here for when the newest member of our pack arrived.” She indicated for me to follow her, and so I followed her into the living room where everyone was already waiting. There was about thirty people in our pack, so it was a little crowded but Mike, who was muscular and big thanks to Markus making sure none of the males slacked off with training, grabbed me and pulled me onto his lap. “Hey hun, you excited?” He asked me. I mentally rolled my eyes but didn’t argue like I usually tried to do. It was either stay standing for goodness knows how long, or let him think of me as a kid and stay sitting. “Not really, why is this such a big deal?” I asked. “Most packs have at least fifty pack members, our pack is pretty small with thirty, so now we’ve both gained one extra wolf and his one of the best fighters in the supernatural world.” I still didn’t think it was that big of a deal and figured it must be a man thing. Ten minutes passed when the door knocked. Markus got up to answer it and came back in,followed by our new pack member. I was still a virgin due to no one wanting to take advantage of me, and never in my life had my panties soaked as much as they did just now. He.was.hot. I had no other words. I watched him walk into the room and couldn’t stop staring. He was about six foot three and built like Markus’ idea of the perfect warrior. His muscles rippled and bulged with every move he took, and he had that slightly raised vein thing going on, I didn’t mean popping veins like body builders had, oh no, this was slight but perfect. He had short golden brown hair that almost fell into his eyes and was shaved around the sides and back. He had electric blue eyes with flecks of gold in them and full kissable lips. Everything about him seemed perfect, even his face was chiseled and perfect, with a perfect jawline. He was wearing a dark green T-shirt that fit tight against his chest, showing off his muscular body and dark blue jeans with what looked like black army boots. I looked back at his chest and saw he was wearing dog tags. Everything about him screamed military to his style, right down to the way he carried himself. I looked at his face and a laugh escaped my throat. I tried to disguise it as a cough, but it was too late. Everyone gave me an annoyed, look while Mr hot guy simply narrowed his eyes at me but said nothing. I wasn’t laughing at him but clearly everyone thought otherwise, I laughed because of the expression on his face, it had looked pained, and I could tell he absolutely hated everyone being there staring at him. With his eyes on me, I felt heat rush to my cheeks and mumbled some excuse before practically running out of the room. I ran up the stairs two at a time and only breathed a sigh of relief when I shut the bedroom door behind and leaned back against it. I don’t think I came out of my room for the rest of the evening, but when morning came I decided I was not going to be a damn coward, This was my home and no way was I going to be uncomfortable living here. I ran down the stairs like usual for cereal and was surprised to see new pack guy already at the counter making himself coffee. Yuck. I mentally slapped myself, I should have known he would be an early riser too, having been used to the harsh military lifestyle. I was still in my pjs, which unfortunately for me were Lion King. My hair was a mess that I had scraped back into a ponytail and I admit I hadn’t even brushed my teeth yet, I was too hungry and wanted breakfast first. New pack guy turned and saw me skid to a stop in the doorway. “Morning.” He said. I blushed crimson but hid how I felt and replied, “hey, new guy.” He laughed a little and said, “call me Mason. Mason Brooke.” He even had a cute name. “Ok, hey Mason. I’m Hazel.” He gave a small smile that didn’t reach his eyes, and was distracted by Rachel coming into the kitchen and walking over to him. She was done up to the nines. Very short red tight dress and heels, her usually black straight hair done in thick bouncy curls and bold red lipstick, foundation, contour, sharp cat eyeliner, even her damn eyebrows were done to perfection. I knew it was just for Mason’s benefit as she was absolutely not a morning person, she was lovely and nice any other time of the day but if you dared wake her before eleven in the afternoon, well, let’s just say I’d met her demon half when I’d tried waking her once. She looked beautiful, and I tried not to get that jealous hate people sometimes got towards other attractive people. I tried. Mason, I noticed, certainly perked up when she went over to him. Clearly he liked what he saw, and I rolled my eyes and stormed out of the room. Nobody noticed. Pfft. It would be a full moon tonight, so I knew I couldn’t go far, but I wanted to get out the house. I’d never wanted a guy so bad before, and it bugged me. I went out and walked towards town, well, actually I got two steps out the front door before remembering I wasn’t even dressed. I ran back inside and then up the stairs to my room and pulled on a navy blue t-shirt and some jeans. I pulled my hair back into a more neat and tidy low ponytail and then pulled on my parka coat which was a dark green. I didn’t need it as being a werewolf meant we were always warm, but to make humans more comfortable we wore coats in the winter time. I left again, and this time made it to town and entered the shops, I looked in a dvd shop, a book shop, and at one point got myself a chocolate Frappuccino from Starbucks. When it was starting to get dark, I knew I needed to head back home and slowly dragged my feet towards home. I was picturing all sorts in my head. Would Mason be kissing Rachel? Would they be having s*x! Hell, would they be married by the time I got back. My mind always bombarded me with the most stupid and outrageous thoughts when I walked. I was so busy trying to shut the thoughts out that I didn’t see the lamp post and slammed face first right into it, dazing myself so that I fell back onto my a*s. I did the thing that nobody should ever do. I had a tantrum. I growled, got up and stomped my feet only to slip up on the frost beside the curb and land back on my a*s much to the amusement of three teenagers, one doubled over crying tears of joy. I don’t think I’d been in such a bad mood since my teen years, but here I was on my a*s, and I was about to cross my arms defensively while still on the floor before realizing what a toddler I would look like. I got up and dusted myself down and walked off, finally getting home in one piece.
