Chapter 22: A date

2027 Words
When I woke up the next morning, I was halfway down the stairs when I bent down to peek through the gap to see if Mason was in the living room, he was, and he wasn’t alone. Ruby had been brave and confident, she was overly dressed even though she didn’t need to be. She was dressed in a skin-tight looking beige dress that barely reached her thighs, she wore high heels and her makeup was glamorous and perfect, champagne colored eyeshadow, a cat line and smoky eyes with a bold red lip, with her long honey blonde hair curled softly and flicked over to one side she looked like the moon goddess herself. Damn it. I looked down at my pj bottoms and worn out 101 Dalmatians top and went to run back up the stairs, but Samara came barreling down, she didn’t notice me until it was too late and we both went crashing down the rest of the way and landing in a tangled heap at the bottom. The amount of times I’d fallen down the stairs I was surprised I hadn’t broken a leg yet. Mason still looked cold and unreadable, but I hadn’t failed to notice his gaze travelling over Ruby’s body, especially her chest, now though, with all the commotion, they both turned and looked at me and Samara sprawled out on the floor and I cursed my omega ways. I tried not to push Samara off me roughly and quickly got back onto my feet. I hated being stared at, so I gave them both a thumbs up and grinned, “I’m all good!” Then I rushed into the kitchen. After cereal, I tried to spy on Ruby and Mason and found thankfully that while he clearly found her attractive, he was still refusing to flirt or talk or go on the date she kept talking about. He blanked me for the whole day, and it wasn’t until bedtime I finally saw him and that was only because he was made to come to my room. I don’t know who he was talking to outside the door, but he sighed in frustration and muttered, “this is so f*****g stupid.” He slammed the door and angrily climbed into my single bed. It was small, and I had to push myself up against the wall so he had room. While I blushed with a racing heart, he was clearly in a bad mood. “I’m sorry about this,” I whispered. “It’s fine,” he all but growled the words. He was fully clothed in some sweatpants and a plain white t-shirt that even loose and baggy for bed still strained against his muscular body. I didn’t dare try to be playful or cuddle up to him. “Are we not friends anymore?” I whispered. He lay on his back with an arm behind his head and turning to look at me, answered, “we can’t really be friends now can we, apparently my only option is to basically marry you or Ruby.” “You don’t have to marry us.” “Being mated to someone for life is basically the same thing, Hazel.” He gave his back to me after that, and I took it as the sign it was, he didn’t want to talk anymore. I Didn’t know when I’d managed to fall asleep, but when I woke up in the morning, Mason was already gone. It stayed like this between us for a while, one night he would sleep in my room and the next Ruby’s, he didn’t really talk or acknowledge me in any way and it got to the point where we felt like strangers. A whole slow long month passed like this and without vampires to hunt or much of anything else, I almost wished the vampires would hurry up and start a war just to take my mind off things…almost. I noticed that a couple of times Ruby had convinced Mason to go on one or two dates with her, I came up with the stupid plan to see how close they were getting by creeping along the hallway until I reached Ruby’s room. It was her turn to have Mason spend the night with her, and I peeked through the gap in the bedroom door that was slightly ajar. Massively big mistake, Mason was on his back in bed with Ruby on top, his trousers were pulled down halfway while she rode him, her red dress had been pulled down to her waist so that her breasts were bare and bouncing as she f****d him. I must have made some noise because she looked over and spotted me, she smirked smugly and carried on riding him, but Mason caught her look and followed her eyes to where I was. “Hazel?” I ran off but damn werewolf hearing meant I heard her tell him, “let’s finish first, then you can go find her.” I’m assuming they did indeed carry on because I had been crying and hiding under my covers for a good hour before he came into my room. He slid into the bed behind me and put his hand gently on my waist. “Hazel, I’m sorry you had to see that.” I couldn’t stop crying enough to respond, and I felt him press more firmly against me. “Look at me,” he murmured. I shook my head no, and he suddenly pulled me so that I was on my side facing him, I was shocked when he pulled me into his arms and held me. “I’m sorry,” he whispered, “I didn’t realize you felt this strongly about me.” “You’ve ignored me for a month when we are supposed to be friends, and all this time you’ve been dating and getting closer to Ruby, among other things, that’s not fair to me, Mason.” “You’re right, it’s not, and I’m sorry.” I looked at him then, making our faces only inches apart. “So you’ll do all those things with me too?” He pulled back a little and looked uncomfortable, “I can take you out on a date, sure.” “And kiss and make love like you and Ruby just were?” He got up off the bed then, and I got up too, smiling now. “Wipe the smile off your face Hazel, I said date, I didn’t say anything else.” “Why not?” I asked, I took a step towards him, and he took a step back. “I just don’t feel comfortable being that intimate with you.” I stopped moving towards him then and replied, “because you’re disgusted with the fact I’m an omega?” He looked at me confused, “what? No.” “Really? Because after the ritual, you yelled out quite clearly how you felt.” Dawning lit his face then, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean any of that.” “Didn’t you?” “No, I don’t care if you’re an omega.” “But you probably care what others think, right, you’d most likely be too embarrassed to be seen being affectionate with me.” He looked a little guilty before hiding it behind that cold mask of his, so I no longer knew what he was thinking. “Can’t we at least kiss sometimes? You kissed me on my birthday.” “Yeah, and I still feel weird about it.” I realized then that it wasn’t that I was an omega that was putting him off, and I grew annoyed. “You know I’m a grown a*s woman, right? You don’t still think I have the mind of a pup?” He shrugged and answered, “I know you’re an adult and I know you have the mind of one, but it still makes me feel weird, you act like…” he trailed off, so I finished for him, “like a big kid?” “This whole omega personality is just difficult for me, I can’t help but feel like I’d be taking advantage of you or some shit.” “What if we just start out secretly, I won’t tell anyone what we do.” He rose his eyebrows at that, “that would be even worse, keeping it our little secret sounds creepy as hell on my part.” “Mason, you’re making it weird when it doesn’t need to be, everyone else knows I’m an omega and have stopped treating me like a pup now, I get all the lovely colorful curse words and dirty looks thrown my way, discreetly done, but I notice.” “Who the f**k talks like that about you?” “Everyone,” I replied, I didn’t want to tell him Ruby was among those, or that she was the worst with her group of friends, they would torment me a lot but always made it indirectly so that they technically weren’t breaking the alphas rules by being directly aggressive or mean. They’d sit near me and whisper things like, “she really thinks she has any chance with Mason?” Or, “how pathetic, Mason doesn’t even want her, how embarrassing your own potential mate not wanting to be near you.” Then they’d giggle and laugh about it. Mason grew almost hostile, and I wondered for a minute if it was directed at me. “f**k what they think, let’s go on this date, are you up for it now?” I grew excited and thought it was sweet he was feeling protective of me. He let me get ready, and I knew I needed to try and look as sexy and womanly as I could so that he didn’t mistake me for anything other than a woman. I never could stay sad for too long, so it was no surprise that after crying earlier I was giddy and hyped now. I Pulled on a tight red dress of my own that mom had made me buy, I almost ripped it off, blushing when I realized it stopped above mid-thigh, but I remembered I was dressing to seduce Mason, to make him want me and see me as a sexy female, so I left it on, underneath I was wearing matching red lacy underwear too just in case I convinced Mason to do more than kiss me. I pulled on black high heels and looked in the mirror, I looked very seductive, my skin looked flawless with the foundation and contour mom had gotten me, my eyeshadow was a soft shimmery gold with a cat eye and my lipstick I had made mom do for me, it was like ombré, soft black around my lip line and blended into red in the middle of my lips, dark and sexy. My hair mom did too, so that it was up in a high complicated bun with some braids running through it, soft curls hung around my face, the whole look almost looked goddess like and was perfect. I went to race out of moms room and she grabbed my arm. “Walk, Hazel, you are a woman and wearing heels.” I grinned and her face softened. “Sweetie, I’m really happy he is taking you on a date and trying to get to know you in a more romantic way, but be careful and don’t have too many high hopes about it, I don’t want him breaking your heart.” I hugged her, “thanks, I’ll be ok, mom.” I was so glad I listened to mom about walking because if I’d run down these stairs I would have broken both ankles with these heels, I felt like I was walking on stilts and stumbled and tripped most of the way down. I found Mason in the kitchen drinking a glass of water, when he turned around, he sputtered and choked on the water. “Are you ok?” I laughed. He blushed, he actually blushed and mumbled, “yeah, I’m good.”
