Death From Above

“Conserve bullets! We don’t have much, shoot the closest enemy!” Michael shouted to his radio and unmounted his M2 Browning and went inside the communications room. The outside of the mansion has begun to be noisy ever since they started to open fire to the point that they cannot hear each other clearly. “Ratelo! Contact Command and tell them we need an indirect fire on coordinates 2-7-0 3235 meters from your location. Immediate suppression of the area. I say again, we need an indirect fire on coordinates 2-7-0, 3235 meters away from your location, immediate suppression in the area over.” After the communication officer relayed the instruction for artillery bombardment to the Command, he immediately returned to his position and manned the M2 Browning. The battle had begun long ago, and despite the tremendous amount of ammunition sprayed to the hordes of wolves, they didn’t even relent a bit. Michael exhausted the last ammo box of the M2 Browning as he sprayed it towards the oncoming wolves who fell to their demise. A shot from such a high caliber is enough to kill the wolves, however, they are still continuing their charge as if they don’t fear being killed. The rate of fire from the mansion has reduced significantly as soldiers reported their last ammunition one by one. “Sir, we got incoming artillery! Prepare to cover!” The communication soldier transmitted the message through an open channel. Hearing the warning, everyone started to duck their heads as a thunderous explosion littered the village. Blown away by the Command’s M4A3 Calliope & BM-13 Katyusha rockets, salvo’s from M115 203mm, 105 mm Howitzer M3, and Type 96 15cm Howitzers, no monster could withstand such firepower. Coupled with the Soldiers attacking from the mansion, with their M2 heavy machine guns and MG42 general-purpose machine guns, their sniper and semi-automatic rifles, as well their mortars. Droves of wolves were slaughtered and turned to smithereens before they could even reach the mansion. But the thunderous explosion didn’t stop there as they heard engine planes from above. As the initial bombardment stopped for a moment to give way for the Aerial bombardments, Michael struck his head to the sky and could hear the engines of the planes. However, their vision is limited by the thick forest mist drifting in the air. Above the abandoned village airspace was a squadron of bombers composed of 2 B-29 Superfortress, 2 North American B-25 Mitchell, 2 Avro Lancaster, and 2 Heinkel He 111. Moments later, they released the heavy ordnance that they carried. The bombs whistled as they plummeted to the ground and seconds later, a deafening explosion sounded on the battlefield. The Aerial bombardment circled again to initiate re-attack and dropped their last rounds of ordnance to the ground. Thunderous explosions were instantaneously heard to the point that they can’t hear the engines of the planes above. Michael stood up and saw the aftermath of the Aerial Bombardment complemented by the artillery bombardment. Even though it didn’t completely annihilate those monster wolves, it was a huge help for them since they are running low on ammunition. Now, as the bombers from the Command retreated to the base, the artillery bombardment continued and nearly eradicated the wolves. After five minutes of continuous artillery bombardment, the Command transmitted a message: “This is Command, the artillery is overheating and may not be able to continue on.” “Copy that Command, 9th Recon out.” Just as Michael was about to aim his M1 Garand, the system prompted a message. [Strengthening Mission Defeat the monsters hordes 531 monsters. ] “Okay, boys! They are now down to 500! Keep your heads up and kill those filthy wolves!” “Oorah!” Pumping out his soldiers, they opened fire again with an intent to fully eradicate the monsters laying waste upon their new forward military base. “Take this you rabid dogs!” “Yeah yeah yeah!” “Kill those motherfuckers!” Michael was keeping an eye on his system as he watches the numbers of the wolves drop drastically as he counted in hundred. “300...200...100...50...0” “Okay! All hostels are eliminated, hold your fire.” Seeing the number dropped to zero, Michael promptly ordered his soldiers to hold their fire. The onslaught and the sound of guns halted. Michael picked up the night vision goggles and perused the surroundings. He wandered his night-vision goggles around the perimeter of the mansion and seeing no thermal figures registering, he sighed relief. They were almost defeated due to their low ammunition but thanks to the support of the Command for their artillery and aerial bombardment, the numbers reduced significantly enough for their supply of ammunition. “This is the Commander speaking, we got the boys!” Declaring their victory, cheers erupted from the mansion. Michael outstretched his hand and walked forward to the edge of the roof, what he just saw is a dilapidated village. The area surrounding the mansion had been scorched, turning it into a real battlefield, the ground had gouges due to the continuous bombardment. Outside the mansion were large mountains of corpses, as the smell of death and gunpowder wafted in the air. It was hell on his first day, as he got reincarnated in the worst possible starting location to defeat 20,000 hordes of monster wolves. Returning inside the communication’s room, one of the officers stood and walked forward. “Commander, the reinforcements from the Command have arrived.” “Just now? They are so late in the battle, well it’s perfect since we’re going to turn this village into our new forward operating base anyway.” Michael chuckled slightly as he let out a forced smile, they were truly late in the battle, what a pity, if they’d arrive faster, they might be able to end this battle early. Well, just as he was about to leave, he noticed the face of his communication soldier who looked like he has something more to say. Figuring out that he was completely read by Michael’s observant eye, he spilled. “Sir, Major Raphael wishes for you to let the newly arrived platoon handle the cleanup and return back to the Command outpost.” “Ah is that so…” He yawned, “Okay, I will have my platoon here to return back with me.” Listening to the guidance of his Major from his communication soldier, the newly fresh platoon from the Command handled the cleanup of monsters lying around the mansion After all the fighting which had gone on, he took his fatigued forces back with him to their Command outpost. … Inside his office, Major Raphael and Chief of Command Michael Stevens sat in their chairs. Listening to the casualty report from Raphael, Michael heaved a deep sigh of relief. “There were no injuries in your platoon Commander, it’s a miracle, now for the ammunition, we exhausted most of our suppliers and our troops are requesting for resupply, though I said to them that you needed to take a break, they understood it quickly.” “Is that so? Then before I take my rest, I will firstly refill and restock our supply of ammunition…” “But sir, you’re exhausted, you can do that tomorrow…” “I will only take your suggestion as a suggestion only, besides. I’m the Chief of Command here and you only listen to me. Why the sudden change of heart?” The fact that she was cold and distant to him earlier made him accidentally blurt that. The atmosphere began to feel heavy as Michael left his office to carry out his duties. ‘What an awkward situation.’ He thought to himself and recalled something. Defeating a huge amount of monsters in the abandoned village should give him something right? So he opened his menu and checked his status. What he saw next made his eyes open in shock. [Your level has risen to 40] [Weapons developed on and before 1965 can now be used.] [Summon Limit & Force Composition] Soldiers ・ 10000 (Three Battalions) Artillery ・1000 Vehicles ・1500 Aircraft ・800 Naval Vessels ・300 In the case of Artillery, Vehicles, Aircraft & Naval Vessel summons, the required amount of operating personnel will be summoned alongside. Logistical Combat Support personnel (Combat Engineers・Maintenance/ Mechanics・Communications Specialists・Supply & Food Specialists・Medical Soldiers・etc.) are not included in the Infantry summon limit, currently the available summon limit of LCS personnel is equivalent to a division-sized element. There are no restrictions for summoned small-caliber weapons or heavy weapons that require 2-3 soldiers to operate. Just as he expected, his level rose quite a lot. Well, it's only natural for this to happen since he killed a lot of monsters back in the abandoned village. With all these new upgrades on his system, not only can he resupply and replenish their munitions, but he can also upgrade his military base as well. But since the trial took a lot of his time and is now exhausted, he delayed that idea and only replenished their ammunition. One day later. Inside of his office enjoying his breakfast, Major Raphael stood in front of him while bowing her head. “What is it this time Raphael? You know that I’m eating right?” He paused eating and look at Raphael who was acting strangely. “I’m sorry for my disturbance, sir but this can’t wait.” Setting his spoon aside, Michael gave her a chance to speak by nodding his head. “Sir, I want to apologize for my behavior yesterday. I’m sorry for being distant and cold towards you. I’ve reflected a hundred times to the point that I didn’t even sleep. Because it troubles me, sir.” Raphael sincerely apologized. Though Michael can’t say if she’s really sorry or not but the fact that she used her resolve and abandoned her strong front made him believe her slightly. “Raphael, I have no concerns about your behavior, the only thing I want from you is you completing what I’m ordering you. Accomplish that and you’ll make me happy, though I will accept your apology since it was rude for you to slap my hand while I’m offering a handshake. Good grief, I wanted to develop our relationship since you’re my second in command but to think that it was hard...well never mind. It's that the only thing you want to say?” “No sir, I will promise you here that I will cooperate on developing a relationship with you…” She said bashfully as she twiddled her fingers. “Well, you can go now, we have a lot of work today since I’ve leveled up…” Michael continued his breakfast—Yet she is still inside the room. He struck his head upwards and saw her in front of him idly. “Major—” “Please call me Raphael as of now” She interjected. Surprised about this, Michael sighed and continued. “Okay, Raphael, in exchange, I want you to call me Michael from now on.” “But sir, you’re our supreme leader...there’s no way I can call you that.” “Raphael, just do what I tell you okay? Consider this as your personal mission, call me Michael.” Having no choice but to follow his order, Raphael repeated his name… “Okay...Mi-Michael.” “Good…” He stood up on his seat and grabbed the handkerchief on the table and wiped his hand. Then he stretched his hand towards Raphael, offering a handshake. “Since you want to deepen our relationship, let us start by making a firm handshake as part of our regular routine.” Seeing his hand, Raphael reached for it and shook his hand. “Now then, let’s improve our military base.”
