Abandoned Village Trial

2044 Words
Sitting in the passenger seat of Willys MB military jeep, Michael experienced the most uncomfortable ride in his life. The roads are rocky and uneven, causing the jeep to wobble violently. Minutes later, Michael saw the village appearing in his sight. There were ten people in a military uniform that seemed to be the 9th Recon squad. “Good evening, Commander, this is the village that we’ve reported to the Command.” The moment he got out of the jeep, a stench smell stung his nose, rotting wood everywhere as dilapidated houses and buildings stood before them, making him cover his nose. Since it was a winter season in this world and the sky turns dark, their range of vision is limited and are only dependable on the flashlight they were carrying and the headlights of Willys military jeep. “So this is the village huh? It really looks like an abandoned village. Are you really sure that there aren't any people around him?” “No sir, we’ve checked every inch of this area but there is nothing.” The squad leader of the 9th Recon reported to Michael. “Okay, I have 50 people here, I want you all to conduct a thorough search around this village and find anything helpful. Since this is a village, there might be some sort of abandoned things such as books, personal belongings, which can prove that this is really a village.” Michael paused and looked at the soldier who just reported to him earlier. “What is your name?” He asked suddenly, making the soldier startled lightly. Realizing that the question is directed to him, he saluted and replied: “Sergeant John Roberts, sir.” “Okay Sergeant Roberts, you said that you explored this place right?” “Yes sir!” “Then are there any houses or buildings that attract your attention?” “What do you mean sir?” John contemplated for a second, recalling all of his memories when he was exploring the abandoned village. “There is one sir...it looks like some sort of a mansion.” “Mansion huh? Good lead us the way, we will check it. Hop aboard.” Michael got in on the passenger seat and beckoned John to come along. “All of you behind, go and do your search!” Shouting, the soldiers stood stall and saluted. After that, they carry out their duties. Driving at what seems to be the main road of the village, they arrived at the mansion that John was talking to. From the looks of it, it is a two-story wide mansion made out of cement. Walking forward at the doorstep slowly, guns raised, they slowly opened the door, and immediately, the soldiers behind him got into position to search the interior. “Report to me when you find something useful,” Michael ordered his soldiers glibly and casually walked towards a room. Opening the door, he saw a room that resembles an office. Going around the table and sitting on the chair, he pulled the drawer in hopes of finding something. His eyes widened, seeing the inside of the drawer he saw a bunch of parchments. He immediately pulled that parchment, removed the string, and rolled it open, and scanned the contents. From the way it was written and considering his situation, it was not written in the English alphabet. The text resembled a moving earthworm. Michael shrugs his shoulders and sighs heavily after figuring that he can’t read this paper which can hold valuable information about this world. Then he proceeded on checking the bookshelves in the corner of the room and saw those indecipherable texts again. He decided to return to the seat and wait for the reports to come in. Two hours had passed, a knock on the door was heard. Michael was suddenly roused on his nap and promptly fixed himself. “Come in.” He said then the door was opened, seeing a familiar figure. “Sergeant John, so the moment you entered this room means that you have something to report, am I right?” guessed Michael, he glanced and saw him carrying a wooden box. “Yes, Commander, I will give you a detailed report now.” Carefully putting down the wooden box, he opened it and began his report. “As we’ve reported before, the village is abandoned and no humans can be seen, however, there is a trace that proved that this village has been a home for someone. This box contains a lot of wooden sculptures and some parchments, the area of this village is approximately two square miles and the number of structures in this village is 200 which most of them are built from wood except this mansion.” “I concur, then order all our men here to set up a defensive perimeter around the village, this will be our new forward military base. I will also give an order to our communication personnel to set up their equipment inside here. This mansion will be the headquarters.” Sergeant James saluted and left the room to carry out his duties. Just as James left the room, he stood up and glanced casually over to the french window. Outside the window, a snowstorm has frozen everything. A mid-winter night is congealing the ground of a village. Another three hours passed, all the equipment was finished setting up. They’ve worked so hard and Michael ordered his men to rest and call it a day. And after relaying their plans over to Command, everyone began to prepare camp. “We’ll be delaying our departure and be spending the night here in this village. Since that is the case, I want everyone to know never to act by themselves, always move in groups of at least two. Get some rest, but stay vigilant when out on watch duty. We’ll leave around the early hours of the morning, so in the meantime, I’ll prepare some equipment and handheld radios for all of you” Before heading to rest, Michael summoned up various weapons, gear, and sleeping equipment, such as tents, and began placing them within the mansion. Exhausted on summoning a variety of military equipment, this time he finally took his rest. Thirty minutes later, somebody entered suddenly in his sleeping quarters. Making him react swiftly by pulling out his pistol under the pillow and aimed it toward the person who just entered. “Calm down, Sir! This is me! Sergeant James!” James waved his hands in a frightful manner. Rubbing his eyes, Michael confirmed that it was not a threat. “Sergeant, you should know when to knock do you?” “I’m sorry, Commander something just came up.” “Came up? What is it?” “Commander, one of our sentries who was guarding the perimeter of the village saw something moving in the woods.” “What? Seeing that means that they are close, it must be those monsters before.” He inferred and dressed up himself quickly, equipping his gears and weapons. He rushed over to where James reported the disturbance. “It’s over there sir!” Reaching the rooftop of the mansion, James gave him the night vision, Michael peeked and saw thermal figures over the woods. There is something certainly moving there. He immediately calculated the distance between the Mansion and the woods mentally, coming up with an answer. He abruptly put down the night vision goggles and turned towards James. “Have the men prepare in combat.” “Roger that! I’ll order the men to get in defensive positions.” “Report this to Command and tell them our situation, we might need their help.” “Already did sir, Command said that they can provide artillery support and air support within ten minutes.” “That was a quick, good job, Sergeant.” “I’m just doing my job sir, no need to praise me.” After conversing with Sergeant James, Michael got on the radio, informing his platoon and 9th Recon Squad members, a total of 60 soldiers. “This is the Commander speaking, report to your battle stations!! We’ve identified moving hostiles closing to our position, I want everybody in full battle rattle. Once you’ve set yourselves up and taken cover, wait for my command to shoot.” “Roger That!!” About seven minutes when Michael called out his orders on the radio. All the soldiers reported in their positions, readying themselves in defensive positions. As soon as everyone was in place. Michael decided to fire flares in order to reveal what was moving in the woods. “Fire!” Following Michael’s orders, Soldiers used Kampfpistole, firing eight flares in all directions. 16 lights pierced the night winter sky. Drifting down, the flares illuminated the area with a flash of great brilliance. “The f**k was that?” Illuminated from the forest were countless monsters marching in droves towards the village in all directions as they aimed for the mansion. “I don’t know sir! And it is certainly not humans!” While Michael and James were going back and forth, the number of monsters coming into view increased. “There are...Wolves! A big and odd-looking wolf!” The monsters approaching the fort were simple as wolves, but compared to reality, these wolves are bigger than the normal ones, and their eyes were glowing red. “We’re surrounded! And their numbers are astonishingly high!” “There’s no way we can’t escape with that number.” “Calm down! They are only animals.” “All units! Prepare to engage the enemy hostiles, eliminate all of them!” Having said that, all the 50 men he brought and the 10 members of the 9th Recon squad. Of all the weapons he summoned, there are 12 heavy machine guns (M2 Browning), 10 M2 Mortars,10 Type 89 Grenade Dischargers, and 5 Type 97 automatic cannons. Judging from the armaments that they have and the artillery supports, even with his precaution, it was not enough to completely annihilate the monsters marching towards them. ‘Tsk...we need more armaments...but the system stated that I can’t summon in combat...wait are we in combat?’ Realizing this, he promptly used the system in hopes of increasing their firepower, but something unexpected was displayed. [ Strengthening Mission:   Defeat the monster hordes  - 20,000 monsters ] ‘s**t, I can’t summon more weapons, good grief I manage to summon a lot of weapons earlier because if not, we will not stand this battle.’ “Hey, soldier! Contact Command and hail them about our situation, request for artillery support and immediate reinforcement.” “Yes sir!” Ordering one of his soldiers who are on stand-by, he relays Michael’s message over to Command. As if waiting for this moment when Michael’s subordinate finished relaying his request to headquarters, the monsters growled loudly as they began to charge the mansion. “Okay, it’s starting boys! To everyone listening to this message, eliminate all monsters that come into your sights.” “Sir yes sir!!!” As the ground rumbled with the wolf's fierce charge, Michael aimed his M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle at a wolf, barking orders into his radio, he pulled the trigger. With the stage set, the battle between 20,000 wolves and 60 soldiers began. Hail of bullets from the M2 Bullets bustled in the air and pierced all the incoming wolves. The kinetic power managed to pierce through their body and hit the wolves who were behind them. Not only that, the M2 Mortars, Type 89 grenade dischargers, and Type 97 automatic cannons roared loudly as they pierced the night winter sky. Columns of ice began to rise from a chain explosion, killing hundreds, thousands of grouped wolves instantly. Their blood colored the white world with black. The battle continued until one of them shouted. “I’m out of bullets!”
