The sound of Trevor pounding on the door causes me to jump. I am sitting on the couch, lost in thought about something I can't even remember now. "Lia I know you're getting ready for work but I forgot my hat, open the door!" He has guard duty today and he heads out earlier than me on his days with double shifts. I loop my hand under my large pregnant belly and push myself up, heading to open up the door for Trevor. Crash! Apparently I wasn't fast enough though because next thing I know he's pushed his way through it. Great, there goes another thing to take care of and fix around this house. Trevor looks up and we lock eyes for a couple seconds before he shakes his head, dusting himself off. "Sorry Love, I know you're pregnant but you really need to be faster." "I was heading over Trevor, I was sitting on the cou-" He cuts me off with a dismissive wave of his hand before grabbing his hat and heading over to me. Wrapping his arms around me he leans down and plants a kiss on my forehead. "It's going to be a good day Love, don't look so worried." I realize I have been frowning since he crashed through the door, "Sorry Trev, I just have this nagging feeling in my soul. I'll be okay don't worry." "You better!" He smiles down at me sweetly. "I've got to get going to work Lia, you should head out soon too." Trevor pecks my forehead one more time before turning and heading out the door to his car. As he is getting back into his car he shouts back at me, "Make sure the door gets fixed Lia. Thank you!" Flashing me a toothy grin he shuts the car door and heads off to guard duty. I wave goodbye to him and shut the door, the best I can in its now broken state, heading to the kitchen for a snack before work. Opening the fridge I spot one of the premade protein snack packages and some strawberries. I pull them out and set them on the island, popping one of the strawberries in my mouth. My mind wondering off in thought again as I eat. Trevor can seem like and asshole sometimes but he's just super picky about how things should be. I've learned over the last year with him that everything has its place and it's just better for it to be there. Honestly he is very sweet when things are like they should be. Like to most people a hat wouldn't be as big a deal as it is for him. However, he likes his uniform to be complete and clean when he first gets to work. Don't even get me started on how strict he is about being on time. He can never be late for things, he just can't do it. Things are just better the way he likes them, he can be very grumpy when they aren't. We've been married for a year and I got pregnant not too long into the marriage. Trevor and I are super excited to welcome our little pup into this world. I know Trevor wants a little boy to carry on his name and I will be happy as long as they are healthy. Someone to love me unconditionally. Don't get me wrong Trevor loves me but he is a hard man to please. Since I'm only his chosen mate and we didn't mark one another the relationship isn't as strong as it would be for fated mates, so things get a bit rocky at times. I was who he settled for after all, despite that though we love each other and are happy. I know he still longs for Maria however, she was his fated mate. She died shortly after they marked each other however. The whole experience changed him forever. After finishing my snack and throwing out the garbage I head for the door. Slinging my bag over my shoulder, slipping my tennis shoes on I step out the door and start my walk to work. I have a car but given the fact I am so close to having this little bundle of joy I could use the exercise, it isn't a horribly long walk anyways. Plus it is a sunny day and the path to the pack house is beautiful this time of year, so it'll be a great pick me up for me. I know most werewolves love nature but it has always seemed like more of a home to me than anywhere else. That is why I opted to work in the gardens at the pack house, spending my days tending to the beautiful foliage. Stepping onto the trail to the pack house I take a deep inhale, the smells of the woods fill my nostrils, making me feel better already. There is a small wood that stands between Trevor's house and the pack house. It is mid summer and the greenery is flourishing, hiding another world within it. I can hear little animals running in the bush as I walk through. As I walk I realize that the animals have gone silent and I stop, curious what the problem is. I slowly start to turn scanning the area for anything that might be up. At first nothing seems to wrong, aside from the dark storm clouds suddenly rolling in, which seems odd because it isn't supposed to rain today. Then I see them, crouched down in the bush a pair of wolf eyes peering at me. They don't look familiar and don't seem all too friendly but not necessarily have a bad intent in them either. I take another deep inhale but I don't smell any wolves beside the faint old smells of those who have previously walked down the path. The fact this wolf has no smell sets off some alarm bells in my head and I start to panic a little. One of my hands instinctually shields my unborn pup I scan the area again quickly to see if there is anything to help me if they were to attack. Then spotting a large branch a couple yards away I breath a small sigh of relief. I look back to where the wolf was, but it is gone! I didn't even hear them move. Still in a slight state of panic I quickly race over and pick up the branch. I am unable to transform right now because of my pregnant state so if I were to be attacked I couldn't defend myself well against a wolf. I continue on my walk to the pack house, now more like a jog, as fast as I safely can with little one on board. I suddenly feel a strong cold wind blow through the trees and hit me, causing a shiver to ripple through my body. Stopping for a moment to look up at the sky, I can see that the storm clouds have entirely taken over the sky now, threatening rain. "It'll be okay little one." I say with a frown looking down at my belly and rubbing it reassuringly. Looking back up at the trail I start my jog again. It almost feels like I am going no where, I'm running but I am not getting any closer to the pack house. There is no more noise around me and I know this storm is about to start so I need to hurry. BOOM!! I yelp as the air is filled with a loud boom from thunder crashing and suddenly the sky opens up and starts to pour down rain. The path quickly turns from dirt to mud becoming more like a slip'n'slide than a walking trail and I slow down some so I don't fall. I can see the pack house ahead of me when of course I hear footsteps behind me. Or I guess I should I heard paw steps, splashing in the mud and gaining on me. A spark of fear jumps in me and I pick up the pace again, trying to run. I just need to make it to the pack house and I will be safe! Not hearing the foot falls behind me get quieter they must have picked up pace too. It's almost like they are taunting me. A loud howl sings out behind me that is just as chilling as this cold rain, I know for a fact that howl doesn't belong to someone in our pack. The footfalls behind me suddenly are joined by a more faint second pair and I hear screaming coming from in front of me. Then another howl from another direction and I know that one belongs to our Alpha. We must be under attack. My foot goes out from under me, I slipped on a rock I didn't see and I go falling to the ground. The world seems to slow down around me as I crash into the ground. Pain ripping through me as I hit my stomach on the hard ground, followed by my head. Everything is fading around me. I lift my hand up and see it covered in blood, looking down I see all the blood around me. I try to scream but no noise comes out. I hear the strange wolf basically on top of me but everything finally goes black as my vision fades out completely. The last thing I hear is the sound of two wolf bodies slamming together and loud snarls.
