I stared at Mia in disbelief. You think you know someone, but appearances can be deceiving. Just a day ago, she and Serena were like sisters, and now, everything had changed so drastically. I thought infidelity was the worst it could get, but now there were lies and slander. Maybe the greatest betrayals come from those closest to us, not because we trusted them, but because they knew how to exploit our trust.
When she revealed her bruises, I was even more shocked. If I didn’t know the truth, I might have been fooled by her too. How could things have gotten this bad? We didn’t force her to do anything terrible last night.
