I’m halfway to Kai and Ryker’s house, with them close behind, when panic hits me. My chest rises and falls so quickly I can’t catch my breath. I’m sweating, my heart thumping so hard I hear it drumming loudly. Trying to take deep breaths, I realize I need air…fresh air. I pull the car over on the side of the road, and it vibrates as I crossover the alert strips next to the guard rail. I’m outside the car in seconds, my hands firmly on my knees, hunched over. Breaks lock up, and I hear tires screech to a halt. “Ari,” Kai yells as he comes rushing over. “Are you okay?”. “Ari, what’s wrong?” Ryker asks after running over.
