Chapter 12: Trouble

Zanes POV

As I made my way to the hotel, it started to rain. s**t, I better run before my supplies get soaked. The phone is still to my ear calling Ryan. After the 5th ring, he answered, "sup." I reply huffy from running "Dude where have you been?"

His voice relaxed. "I let my wolf out, and we took a nap. Why did something happen?" I pant as I arrive at the hotel. "You at the hotel?" I asked. "Yeah. But I'm getting ready to go to the bar. Do you feel like joining?" Ryan asked. I contemplate. A drink after today doesn't sound too bad. "Uh, yeah, why not. See you in a minute." And I hang up the phone. Riding up the elevator to the 4th floor of the hotel and room C5. I do a small jog and key the door to unlock. I walked in, and Ryan asked, "What'd you buy?" I told him I stopped at a*****e with Faye for the storm he told me wolves love the storm, and that was stupid. I know we love the storm, but Faye isn't ready to know yet.

As I change into dry clothes, I tell Ryan that Sabrina misses him. He scoffs. "I know she does what girl doesn't." Arrogant Ryan. As we head out with umbrellas over our heads, I fill him in on the events that happened. "Dude, if Alpha Wick finds out, she could get into some serious trouble and punishments. We know not to cause trouble between mates." Ryan said. "I know, but how is she disappearing so fast?" I look to him. He shrugged. "She could really cause some damage on you and Faye if she hurts her or exposes what we are before she's ready." Ryan said as we took a seat at the stools. "2 shots of whiskey, please." I say, looking to the bartender. He nodded and told us, "Were only open for 1 hour were closing early from the storm." He said, walking away. I gulp. The thought of Faye rejecting me brings a strong dull ache and my stomach clenches. "Bro, you're gonna have to help me." I tell Ryan. He nodded and smirky Ryan as always, making his snide comments, "I'll rescue you guys. What else am I here for? Just call my name and I'll be there." I scoffed. "I'll be there for you when you find your mate, and you'll understand." We laughed, and then we paused. A very unwelcome scent entered. Gina. Ryans and I both looked over, and there she was, waving and smiling to all the drunk men googly eyeing her. As she sat a stool away (smart girl), she asked, "Jealous Zane?" I laugh a sharp, small laugh. "Why would I be? You only crave attention. There's nothing to be jealous when a girl only has looks and no skills." I took the shot of whiskey, and it burned down my throat. She smiled and shook her head. "And what 'skills' does your little Faye have then?" I smile back. "Glad you asked Gina. She has great communication skills. She works hard. Oh, and most importantly, she's not fake." I heard a small wicked laugh from her. "Zane, baby. You won't be saying that soon when you watch me slice her throat open on front of you." I tense up, anger, so high I see red. The wolf just a couple seconds away from emerging. Zane put a hand on my back and in a low, calm voice. "Zane. She's only trying to get a rise out of you. You need to calm down. Remember, we're in human territory." I begin breathing. Still hot to bone, but my wolf listened. A war won't get my Faye to love me. I hear a throaty laugh from her again, and Ryan pats my arm twice. "Hey, can we get another 2 shots over here, please?" He yelled over to the bartender. Then he looked over to Gina. And in a deep commanding tone, I haven't even heard from Ryan he looked so serious at Gina that she was even taken aback. "Gina, what you're doing is a crime in our pack laws. Do not think even for a second. I won't break your neck if you kill or even hurt Zanes, mate. There's 2 of us against you, and we will bring this to Alpha Wick. Back down NOW." She sat there silent for a minute. And then replied, "Oh no, the 2 big bad wolves threatening me? I'm so scared!" I can't stand being near her another second cause of I hear anything else from this b***h I'll kill her in front of all these humans. I walk out. I've never been so angry. I let the cold rain pelt me as they sizzled a little from the heat of my body. If Gina comes over, I'll unleash on her. I walked toward the woods just in case she does come out, I'll be hidden to shift. I'm ready to attack, and all I can think about is biting her till she bleeds. As I get a little distance into the woods, I smelt her. There was no stopping my wolf, and I fell to the ground as my wolf took over, and when he emerged, he lunged. He barely missed her. She laughed low and dark. "Wow, you were so close but so far!" What happened to Gina? When we were together, she was so much more docile. And now she's this arrogant selfish devil ex. Did her being with me really change her this much? She quickly climbed up a tree and sat on a branch just far enough where my wolf would have trouble catching her. She crossed her legs and said "Zane I've been forgiving. But try to bite me again, and I'll go straight for your mate." I growled, and my wolf was pawing and jumping and braking branches.

She shook her head. "If you had just stayed with me, Faye would still have so much life left in her time. But now, when I see and smell her, all I feel like doing is snapping her neck. It'd be so easy, too." I hear Ryan come to the woods, and he seen I was already a wolf and tells Gina he's reporting her. She'll be on a wanted poster. She scoffed and said she didn't care she had more important things to do. And then she vanished.

Ryan brought his hands to his forehand and then ran his fingers through his hair. "We're gonna have to guard Fayes home."I Trot to him and lick his hand. Telling him thank you. He takes off his clothes and transforms with me, and we stay hidden and quiet in the woods by Fayes restaurant inn and rely on our senses to protect her.
