Mia thought her birthday date with Ben would end with surprises, gifts, and toasts. Instead, it ended with her boyfriend telling her he was leaving her for someone else. Mia was left humiliated and heartbroken in a fancy restaurant, and she realized she had been strung along by a man who saw her as temporary, not worthy of him. As she struggled to hold it together, her best friend’s older brother, Samuel Carter, stepped in unexpectedly, being protective and dangerously close, calling her his girl in front of her ex.What started as a rescue became something more. Mia decided to return home and get engaged to her betrothed, whom she had never met before. Life took a turn as her betrothed turned out to be her best friend’s older brother. Samuel, a quiet and secret book lover, had always kept his distance, watching her from afar, collecting the books she recommended online, and dreaming about the day Mia would be his. When fate handed him a chance, he took it.Mia learned what true love was supposed to feel like, not what she felt with Ben, and Samuel proved that sometimes the best kind of love is the one that’s been quietly waiting for you all along.

Chapter 0001
(Mia's Pov) The weather looks so nice today, I said, looking out my window. It's my birthday, anyway, so it just has to feel nice. Ben has asked for a date with me today, I guess it's to celebrate my birthday. I and Ben have been together for three years, and in those three years, we've been on a date just twice. Those were the early stages, though. Today, he asked that we go out. He didn't mention the kind of date we were having, but I didn't sense anything wrong because it had been a while since we went out together. I imagined a lot of scenarios in my head, different kinds of surprises a man would do for his girl. Maybe a birthday party for my birthday, or a proposal - ahhhhhh, I screamed while having these thoughts in my head. With that excitement, I walked to my closet, taking a look at it, there's nothing really fancy here. I've been a nerd who doesn't do girly things. I prefer the baggy jeans and polo shirts, with a cross-body bag to fit it, and then sneakers. I don't do heels and gowns and make-ups, bla bla bla, they just seem too stressful and over the top for me. I took a deep breath and fell onto my bed. There's just one person who can save me from all this hassle - it's no other person but Shanaiah, my sweet bestie. With that, I picked up my phone and quickly dialed her number. With two rings, she picked up. “Hey babe, what's up?" she said. " Just out here racking my brain on what to wear, I'm to go on a date with Ben this evening, and I'm yet to find something towear." "I've told you countless times to get rid of those big trousers and polo shirts and act like a girl for once, but you never listen to me. See where it's got you now - you're hooked." I could hear her laughing loudly from the other end of the line. “Must you always make a joke of me before helping me?" I lamented. "Sorry, I'm sorry,” she said, still laughing. “You know, it wouldn't be bad if you went on a date with your big shirt and trousers, You won't be the last lady doing that” she continued. This girl is crazy. " Why do you choose to stress me over helping me, you're the worst friend” I cried out. With that, she stopped laughing. “Okay, okay, okay... Come over, let's get your problem fixed," she told me. “I knew you wouldn't let me down," I screamed excitedly. “Ewwww" Shanaiah whined “Don't be late, or else. “I'll be there in 15," I told her. With that, I burst into the bathroom, took a quick shower, put something nice on, and applied my cologne. Off I went to meet the savior of the day, Shanaiah. * At Shanaiah’s place, I was greeted with a sweet, savoring aroma, one that left me drooling. This girl never ceases to know what I want; I had left my apartment without having anything to eat, Like my tummy knew there was something nice waiting for me it began to growl. Shanaiah isn't just my savior; she's my hero, I said, making my way to the kitchen. I got to the kitchen and found a tray filled with delicacies. She had prepared a fish sandwich, and a cheese pizza placed beside it, along with some oysters. I skipped the formalities and quickly grabbed the tray, heading for the dining table, I couldn't wait to salvage it all. Shanaiah couldn't help but laugh. “You're always hungry," she said, almost beneath her breath, while laughing at me. "Mmmmmh," I said, stuffing my mouth with the oysters “Goddddd, this is sooooo good, do you improve your cooking skills everyday?" I couldn't help but ask, because this was beyond tasty; it was heavenly. Shanaiah kept laughing while she joined me, and we both finished everything on the tray. After eating, we had a little rest, and then headed to her closet. Damn! I couldn't help but say; there were a lot of clothes there. Barely looking at this, I knew it was going to be a long afternoon. Shanaiah carefully selected clothes she'd want me to try on, that alone was a heap. “You want me to try all of this?" I asked, with my eyes wide open. "Yes, we have to make you look perfect, And perfection doesn't come without stress, baby," she said. I couldn't argue with that; I wanted to look my best today, so I just had to accept all the stress and do what was necessary. I began trying out the clothes that Shanaiah had selected for me, I kept on changing and changing and changing; that alone was a hell of a job, one I wouldn't apply for, but right now, it was something I had to do with gratitude. The trying continued. Then I returned with the twenty-ninth cloth I had changed into, only to meet Shanaiah with her lips parted. “Girrrrrrrlll, I must confess I've never seen you look this beautiful in all the six and a half years I've known you," Shanaiah spoke with all sincerity in her eyes. I too knew that this gown was everything I needed tonight. The masterpiece itself was top-notch. It had feather touches to it, with a silver line strap hand. The back was open down to my waistline, revealing all the beauty I had kept hidden in my trousers and shirts. “So, I've been looking bad," I muttered. "No, no... it's just that there's a different beauty now," Shanaiah said. We both laughed at that coment. After that, Shanaiah had my makeup done, and I returned to my apartment, awaiting Ben's arrival.
