Coming to terms

2295 Words
'Fredrick!' My eyes flew open still trying to process what I had just heard. Realizing that I am no longer in the small windowless room but a huge bedroom and I was laying on a king size bed with the softest blankets and pillow I have ever felt. There was also a side room that had a office/study like area with multiple large bookcases full of old, vintage looking books surrounding a desk littered with books turned to various pages and scattered with all kinds of loose papers. Before I could get up and really look around the room and get my hands on some of those books, there was a soft knock at the door. The door was unlocked so Leela pushed the door opened, saw that I was awake and smiled with the biggest look of relief on her face. "Good, your up. I'm sorry it's been 3 days I never thought you were going to wake up." "3 days? I've been sleeping for 3 days?! How is that possible? It feels like I was just at the store and now I'm being told I'm some kind of witch/vampire hybrid and this guy that I've thought about almost everyday for the past 6 years is somehow my mate that was suppose to help me but instead let me go on for 6 years with no kind of explanation." All of this was unreal and not making any kind of sense. I have to be dreaming, but damn this dream feels to real. What did they do to me? Why am I here? "So are you ready to learn the truth and come to terms with who you are?" "Can you please explain what in the world is going on? Who is Tabitha and what role am I suppose to take on with this 'mate'? Because if he didn't want to tell me that I am his mate he must not want anything to do with me and if it's the guy I'm being told it is then he doesn't. He has made it clear it's not like that between us." I say as I watch Leela walk around the study picking up books and loose papers from different spots throughout the room. Still not saying a word, she places the stack of books and pile of papers in front of me. She looks at me and smiles, I can feel the warmth in her smile and for some reason I completely trust her. "Ok yeah so you are a vampire/witch hybrid and I'm sure Tabitha already told you that she's your powers and she is ready to be unlocked." "She started to explain things but she told me about a mate then I woke up, so I didn't really get to ask the questions I had." "You were surprised awake, to funny. But yeah we wondered the same thing. Once we found you, well Tabitha I should say, we were beyond happy until we realized that you haven't found her. You see Tabitha is a princess, and your mate is the prince." "So he's a hybrid like me?" "What? No! Hybrids are like one in a million. He should be a werewolf." " A werewolf? Are you serious?" All these creatures that they keep brining up are fake! I mean me? A vampire? Witch? Also on top of that a princess?! My head is spinning this is really all to much. "You know what I don't think I want any part of this. Thank you for whatever you have done, I think I'll take my leave now." I try standing up but I can't. Nothing is holding me down but I can't move. "What is this? Why can't I stand up?!" "Like I've already said Tabitha's ready, she was ready when she woke up almost 7 years ago." Leela's getting angry and I'm getting scared. I think she noticed how her words affected me and she soften her expression. "Oh no! I'm sorry, I'm not mad at you!" she said quickly. "You see when we turn 25 our creature wakes up, but for whatever reason sometimes creatures have trouble coming forward and they need their mates help to finish the process. When Tabitha told Judith that she had met her mate and he all but rejected her both Judith and I were livid." she says as she sits across from me. "In our community we look out for each other, even more so our own mate. So for him to not help you is completely unheard of." She's looking me right in the eyes making me feel like she is looking right into my soul. "Listen Chrys our creatures have been around for hundreds if not thousands of years and when they have a mate and they find each other they will always find each other no matter what. So if he found you and isn't saying anything then something is wrong and we need to find out why but we can't even began to start if you and Tabitha don't become one." She looks at me with what looked like a look of sadness. I could feel the pressure being lifted off me and I could move again. "Chrys all the books and papers that I put in front of you will tell you everything you need to know. There's not to much information on hybrids, because like I said one in a million, but what there is on them are in those books. Please look over them before you make any kind of decisions." Looking at me with pleading eyes Leela stood up and left the room closing the door behind her without looking back. After a couple of hours of reading I can already tell you that I've learned quite a bit about each creature I am. I had just started reading up on what my mate is when Leela came back to the room. This time though she brought a tray of sandwiches and a couple bottles of water. I didn't realize how hungry I was until I saw the tray of food and my stomach decided to give me away. She smiled at me. "I thought you might be hungry. I mean you haven't had real food in three days, so it makes sense I guess." Leela stated as she put the tray down on the small bedside table. All I could do was look at her and pray that she could see the 'thank you' in my eyes as I started to devour the sandwiches on the plate. Turkey and cheese. Can't go wrong with a classic. After I finished two of the sandwiches Leela looked at me and cleared her throat. That was my sign that she now wanted to have a conversation. I finish my last bite, took a couple sips of water and look at her, ready for whatever she had to say. "So is there any thing that you've read so far that you may have questions about?" "Yes. Ok so Tabitha is my 'essence' which is what witches call their powers right?" "Correct." "Ok I am also a vampire, and in the first book I read about them, they are able to transform into a bat. Is that true? And will I be able to since I am actually part vampire?" "Yes vampires can change into a bat. I can change into one as well and her name is Judith. You'll be able to meet her soon. Unfortunately I do not know if you will be able to. I mean I can see that you have fangs, can you retract them?" "Fangs? You mean my teeth? They have always been like that. Also what would having fangs have anything to do with being able to transform?" "You must not have read the book completely. If vampires do not show signs of their fangs before their creature awakens they can not shift. Since you have fangs, and you haven't connected with Tabitha my guess is that once you allow her to come forward you will be able to test it and find out." Leela just smiles at me. What is with this girl and smiling? "Do you know anything about my mate?" "I know about his wolf but I can't really tell you anything about his host. Is there an age gap between the two of you? If I remember right Tabitha likes other men." "Yeah I think like 16 or 17 years." "Brown eyes? Brown hair?" "Curly brown hair." I say with a smile as I picture Fredrick. His eyes, his smile. Damn I miss my hug. I haven't really thought about him in the last few months, and I think Leela could tell. She had a look of pity with a sad smile as if saying 'we'll get this sorted out'. "Girl you must really like him, you haven't stopped smiling since you started talking about him." She giggled and gave me a small shove. "Don't worry we'll get you where you need to be and when you are you will find him and make him regret not accepting you right away." Leela claps her hands and stands up. "Okay bathroom is right next door, you will have to go out into the hallway but like I said right next door. Read whatever you want in the office over there, there is also a library downstairs that may have more of whatever you'd be looking for. This is your room during your stay, if you need anything please make sure you ask. Especially if it's before Tabitha comes back. Judith will never hear the end of it. Breakfast is at 8:00am, dinner is at 6:30pm. We like to sit for those meals, lunch is a 'diy' kinda thing unless we make plans. Help yourself to the kitchen if you need to. Basically what I'm saying is make yourself at home. My house is your house. Get what I'm saying?" Giving me a small chuckle and a pat on the back she goes to head out the door. "6:30. Don't be late" and she was gone. Before I knew it, it was 6:30 and time for dinner. I step out of my room and head down the stairs. As I'm walking down the stairs the most amazing smell hit my nose. I didn't even know where the kitchen was, all I had to do was use my nose as a guide. Walking through the door I see an older woman working over the stove. "Hi! You must be making those wonderful smells." "Oh hello dear! You must be Chrys one of Leela's little friends. You can call me 'Nona' now sit down so we can start eating. If 'miss thang' would hurry up." As if she was being called Leela came running through the door. "I'm so sorry Nona! After three days of having to babysit I was enjoying my free time a little to much." Leela looks at me and gives me a wink. "Ok nasty, we don't need to know every time you diddle yourself." Nona said while rolling her eyes and I'm over here trying not to spit my drink out from laughing so hard. "NONA!" Leela shrieked. "Oh hush and sit down before your dinner gets cold. So Chrys is it? Are you going to let me bring Tabitha forward?" "You know about Tabitha?" "Oh yes dear. You know she's the direct descendant of the Queen of Witches and the King of Vampires. Also if I remember right her mate, Tabias, is the prince of werewolves. Son of the King and Queen of werewolves." At Nona's words I spit out my drink. "My word child! Hold it in!" "Sorry Nona. I'm still new to this and I'm still learning about this world and how all of this works. So all this information is all kinds of new to me." "Child it's ok just calm down. Everything will come to you in good time. Now lets get to this food before it gets cold and after dinner we can have a talk about everything in the living room. With that being said, girls dig in and enjoy!" Nona said with a smile as she sat down at the head of the table. "Now child there is one thing I do need to ask. Do you want this? Do you want to open that connection? It won't be easy since it has been so long. But I will promise you it will be will worth it. Even if your dummy for a mate doesn't see it, at least you'll be able to carry on for your parents, because believe me their getting tired and ready to retire. They thought that they would have been able to when you turned 25." "Yes Nona, this is what I want. I want to know who I am and more about my family line. I want to harvest my powers and do what I am meant to do. I mean it has to be something good right?" "Yes child. It is always a good thing when a creature comes forward, a blessing when it's one as special as yours." Nona gave me the biggest, warmest smile I have ever gotten. "Now how long do you think it will take for Tabitha to come forward?" "Honestly I'm not 100% sure. Now if this was when she first woke up it could take only a few hours, but with this happening many years later I can not give you any kind of time frame." "It's ok Nona. Now that I know what I've been missing I certainly want to catch up." Nona and Leela smiled the biggest smiles at me, relived that I chose to stay.
