Changes

Lost in thoughts after checking up on her Aayla worried about the financial situation of her friend

and how she would cope with the expensive chemo sessions of Nanna, Addy works in the fashion industry as an upcoming designer and didn’t know where to begin the job search for her friend yet she briefly decided to check the fashion job hunting site to see if there was any listing that could suffice till there was a proper job.

Aayla graduated at the top of her class and everyone knew she would be easily accepted into the legal space as a well-distinguished lawyer because of her tenacity and insightfulness for truth but to everyone’s surprise aayla wanted to stay by her grandma after graduation and didn’t wish to work with her degree.

Three years since her decision and now no one was willing to employ a lawyer who never practiced or someone inactive in the legal space while some wanted her in their firm just because of how she looks, more like a patron for clients. Everything was not going well so Aayla called Addy to ask if she could ask around for any job openings as she needed money badly.

Addy's eyes caught a catchy but odd job opening on the fashion page while scrolling her phone.

*live-in housekeeper needed for immediate employment*

Addy’s thought process for a minute had concluded it to be one of those fraudulent pages on the page but seeing the employer as Liam Roberts of Bw corporation and the urgency of the job placement she thought to check through the requirements even though she knew that was not the kind of job her friend would do but time and money was of essence…

After reading through the requirements and specifications the offer was too generous to be true but she still notified her friend and all she heard over the phone was I’d most definitely do it so long as Nanna can be with me, alright addy said I just sent you the link, the application would be closed in two hours whatever decision you make girl I’m on your side bestie addy reassured her friend.

At the convenience store

Aayla had already filled in all the necessary details and stared at the store computer to confirm if she needed to become a live-in housekeeper for an overbearing billionaire family. well, she needed the money at least the pay per hour was over her earnings per week so she was completely prepared to be overworked at last she clicked the send button hoping to be employed and rejected at the same time she returned to her post by the counter, as usual high school boys were frolicking around the shop as she was like an idol to lots of them and they’d come around to buy unnecessary things with hopes of seeing her, some drew her on their textbooks while sitting outside the shop, others took pictures while she worked and her boss saw her as a walking ad for the convenience store and had always treated her so well not knowing his Ad contract might be ending soon.

5:40 pm…

A notification pops up on her phone and she reads through an email only to see that she has been hired and she had to resume by 8 pm still trying to comprehend the whole situation a call comes through to her phone and it’s an unknown number. A friendly but quiet professional voice floats through the speaker.

“ Hello miss Aayla

Good evening.

Your duties are to commence tonight but I made arrangements to have someone cover for you for tonight while you report to the main residence by 6:00 am tomorrow as you need to accustom yourself to your duties before the boss needs your services.

Oh, but sir I live with my nanna can I go home on weekends or days after work to check in on her?

Uhm…that shouldn’t be a problem for now the boss needs a live-in housekeeper but he’d never ask for your service when it’s past 7:30 pm so I guess we could work that out

thank you so much sir I’d appreciate and I’d be at work in time.

Alright see you tomorrow with that the call dropped”

Almost immediately she called Addy to tell her about her decision to accept the job and all but on second thought she ended the phone call and decided to meet her right after her shift.

Outside the fashion academy

Hey babes…

with a faint smile in her eyes, Aayla hugged her friend.

I got the job; I resume by 6 am tomorrow

Aayla said while tugging at her friend's hoodie

That’s so great addy smiled from ear to ear

But are you good babes?

Addy asked with lifted brows cause she expected a more enthusiastic reply since the present job could cover the hospital expenses though she’d be left with little or nothing to feed herself

I am alright considering the pay of the job but I feel terrible about not seeing Nanna every other day I mean how am I supposed to know how bad her health has deteriorated or how much pain she is in… She said while looking sad

Addy hugged her and said you crybaby you are not a medical practitioner relax I’d check on her every other day and night okay? and we might make plans to move her to a medical facility if she needs to be monitored.

Aww..what would I do without you Addison she asked with tear-soaked eyes

Come of it, she is my nanna too but you could get me an island in Sweden, a runway to heaven, or better still have the angels wear my designs she joked, Aayla's smile held gratitude in them.

So is that why you couldn’t be happy with the job girl I know you detest working with the 1% Rich but let’s just smile through it okay?

do you mean the literal kindness we all learnt about growing up or something else? oh please she said whilst making a mock expression of cleaning her ears.

They laughed while Aayla tried booking a taxi to get her home cause she already knew Addy would not be leaving for the night as she loved drafting dresses for fun and the academy was her other home, both girls had different priorities all Aayla wanted was to rush home to her nanna for the night.
