Alpha's Decisions

3261 Words
As Alpha Zawyer opens the door, he strides back down the hallway, muttering to his Beta who follows closely behind: "Put her in the car." Illaria takes a deep breath, still trying to compose herself as she leaves the room as well and follows the two men down the hallway. The way Alpha Princess, always very composed, now appears flushed and trembling, it wouldn't be difficult to interpret what happened to her, but the warriors Wolves remain focused on their military duties and code of conduct, avoiding any gaze in the direction of their Alpha’s affairs. They merely bow in quick, respectful acknowledgment as he passes by, with some of them following behind Illaria. Meanwhile, Beta Austin, who walks alongside his Alpha, - visibly confused, - struggles to mutter under his breath: "In... our car?" And as soon as they arrive at the Main Entrance Hall full of sentries and Wolf soldiers going about their missions, the Alpha turns to his Beta with a withering look that no Wolf would like to be under. "Do I need to answer you?" Beta Austin raises his hands at the same second. "My Alpha, I'm sorry, but I really don't understand. Can you please enlighten me on this here?" The Beta gestures in exasperation between the Alpha and the Princess Warren who was following behind. Beta Austin, a light blond Wolf, now has his hair tied up and looks even more like the skilled and cocky fighter he is. He tilts his head a little in submission, but keeps his gaze incisive, not giving up trying to understand what would make his Wintry Alpha King get involved with a woman in a situation like this. The other Betas and the princess who followed Austin and Alpha Zawyer also stop at the Entrance Hall, although at some distance from the two men. Betas are really strong and proficient fighters, often very intimidating as they are considered the best physical strength of a Pack. Sometimes, as is common with many of them, the main difference between a strong, well-trained Beta and an Alpha is their leadership skills. Betas are typically better fighters than leaders, especially when compared to an Alpha. At this moment, the two large and irreducible Wolves of the Blood Moon Pack hear a rattling noise and turn towards the center of the hall, where they see the Alpha Princess struggling against two Wintry Wolves to let go of her arms. “Later," Alpha Zawyer then mindlinks his Beta with that brief response, finishing the matter, before walking over to them. They are two pale Wolves from Beta Austin's personal group of soldiers, dressed in armor and armed with two sharp swords each. They grab the girl's arms as if to restrain her, but immediately release her when they see their Alpha approaching them. Alpha Zawyer, an imposing figure resembling an ice wall with enormous rocky muscles, long ash-white hair, bestial glowing yellow eyes, and a bleak presence, draws near like a predator. Illaria gazes up at him, eyes wide with fear, realizing once again how bad it is to be in those eyes crosshairs and how small she is in comparison to this important Alpha. Instinctively, she takes a step back, her gaze shifting between him and his Beta. "What's going on here?" The Alpha demands in his crackling, masculine voice. The girl's eyes remain wide and scared as she responds as steadily as she can. "I-I was just telling them that I'm not a prisoner...", she says before adding in a whisper, "at least not yet...". But her murmur is drowned out by the Alpha's imposing voice. "This princess is my Luna, you won't dare to disrespect her!" His voice chills everyone around, but his Beta's quick and shocked response breaks the threatening energy in the same second: "What?!" Beta Austin's incredulity sounds the same as it does in the soldiers' minds, but they wisely hadn't shown any expression, just bowed and immediately apologized to the Alpha and his - apparent - new Luna. "Austin, take her to the car." "But Alpha...?!" Beta Austin can't hide his confusion and, at the same time, very incredulous excitement. "I already told you, don't make me repeat myself, Beta," the Alpha interrupts him emphatically, giving everyone one last mortifying look, which no one in their right mind would be able to defy. Everyone swallows hard in a sharp, fearful silence, before Alpha Zawyer turns and walks towards the courtroom. His determined steps and his enormous aura command the attention of the great hall as soon as he crosses the portal. "Drogorie, lay your sword down. The two royal members will be kept alive in prison until I give further orders," the High King declares, his harsh voice freezing the room like a blizzard. In just a few steps, he reaches the top of the hall, where four Alphas promptly approach him. “Your Majesty, did something happen?” the first to ask is Alpha Kourtn, a Military Grand-General of the Pack. “We are also taking the other Alphas as prisoners in our territory. Alpha Kourtn, you will be responsible for organizing their individual trials later this week," he instructs. "Of course, Your Majesty. But will you postpone the sentencing of the entire Warren clan?" Alpha Kourtn asks respectfully, but quite confused by his King's unusual change of plans. "That's exactly what I'm doing," Alpha Zawyer responds firmly. "Alpha, may I ask why the change?" the youngest Alpha there, Alpha Kovach, with the red beard, presses, attempting to read his stone-cold royal friend's intentions. Alpha Zawyer turns slowly towards him, his demeanor threatening. Alpha Kovach's wild instincts waver in his presence in a way that the redhead hates, but that is inevitable in the face of the Glacial King's legendary Alphic Spirit. "Tomorrow. First thing in the morning we will have a Council Meeting and we will talk about it", he announces. "What happened to Alpha Princess?" Alpha Morpheus, a little further away from the others, joins the interrogation, examining the corridor in search of the missing girl. But the Ice King ignores him, turning to a large figure nearby. This figure, larger and more animalistic than most of the Alphas present, is in fact a Beta. Grand-Colonel Beta Entel, an old and powerful White Wolf, had once been a great General of Alpha Zawyer's father in ancient times. A prestigious military man with vast experience in warfare, he remains one of the King’s most trusted Wolves. "Beta Entel, make sure you inspect this entire palace and take everyone prisoner. Alpha Kovach, go to Xavier and tell him we have changed plans. He is not to touch the Golden Moon Pack members, just keep them under control for now I'll meet with him later," orders Alpha Zawyer. "Yes, sir," the two huge men promptly comply to the King’s commands. "For now, good work here, but we're done. Finish your duties and go home, your mates are waiting for you. All doubts will be clarified tomorrow. Alpha Kourtn, you are in charge here for now", concludes Alpha Zawyer. Alpha Kourtn, composed as always, takes a brief bow, followed by salutes from the others, while Alpha Zawyer turns away with his dangerous presence and leaves the room. Meanwhile, armed men stand as sentries around the princess, now revealed as their new Luna, only awaiting instructions from Beta Austin. However, the influential Beta seemed too perplexed to act as he watched his Alpha leave. When he finally composes himself, the slender, blond Beta guides the girl out in a shocked silence with a courtesy to the princess to follow him. His excitement at the idea of his Alpha having found his Luna and at his Pack now having one is too overwhelming for his always-too-cool demeanor to bear it intact. They stop on the balcony in front of the castle entry stairs and Beta Austin turns to the princess again. "Wait here, I'll get us a car," he says, bowing and completing with an amused "Luna" and a slight smile. The girl responds with a polite bow. She feels the Beta's discomfort, but has no idea why he is behaving this way. Illaria feels a sense of relief as he leaves, exhaling heavily and letting the tension dissipate, even as the two armed White Wolves remain behind her. She is used to having armed Betas around her, having had her own personal guard appointed by her father throughout her life, although they served more for control than protection. In the Wolf community, guns are not much of a source of terror, when the Wolf himself must be the primary weapon. A Wolf does not depend on weapons to kill; their teeth and claws are their main tools. However, if they demand more than that to win a fight, it damages their pride and can even lead to a loss of power. Before long, a black SUV screeches to a halt in front of the Packhouse Castle entrance. The blonde Beta jumps out of the passenger side, opening the car door and inviting the Luna to get in. Beta Austin has a deep voice, although not as husky as his Alpha. He looks younger than Alpha Zawyer too, perhaps because he is slimmer, but he still exudes a convincing attractiveness. There is a two year difference between them. Beta Austin is now 26. Alpha Zawyer, having assumed leadership of his Pack at age 15 during a significant war in the Northern Ice and Snow Wolf kingdoms, embodies the ancient and legendary spirit of the High King of all the Wintry Wolves: of the White, Frost, Ice, Snow and many other Wolves variations. And he imposes real command with all his power radiating from his well-defined, deadly muscles forming his solid and dangerous structure. Observing the different types of intimidation this Beta could exert in conjunction with that Alpha, Illaria enters the car hesitantly, but trying hard to do a gentle courtesy in gratitude, as she knows she should value protocols right now, as a princess of her lineage and in her current condition should… However, this only amazes the Beta even more with each candid movement of his Luna, becoming strangely flustered by the gracious behavior of his new princess, to the point of losing words. So Beta Austin just waves nervously at her as he closes the door like a gentleman would. Outside the car, the Beta appears unsure of what to do next. Anxious and excited at the same time, the tall, white-haired young man wipes the smile off his face and approaches the driver, who had already gotten out of the car as well. After giving some instructions, Beta Austin promptly returns to the car and puts himself back in the passenger seat. Although Illaria recognizes his presence when he enters, the two sit in silence inside. Beta Austin offers a friendly smile and pretends to look for something in the glove compartment. However, Illaria notices that he steals glances at her through the mirrors every time. The young - but powerful - Beta's agitation is evident in his enormous body to the confines of the vehicle. She tries to avoid meeting his gaze, but eventually, between curious glances between the two of them, their eyes meet in the rearview mirror. "I'm sorry, Luna, but I-I need to say this... You're just... So charming! Oh, by my Goddess! You're perfect... for my Alpha, for our Pack, I mean, so much far than perfect! I could never hope to have a Luna like this... and wow..." Beta Austin looks emotional as he finally finds the courage to turn around and look at her properly, letting out all his excitement. "Damn, I can barely imagine how happy my Alpha is right now..." Illaria would never have imagined that "Ice Alpha King" and "very happy" could be in the same sentence. Beta Austin always knew that Alpha Zawyer wasn't willing to have a mate. He knew his Alpha's decision well, but he also knew that everything would change when the Alpha set his eyes on his true mate. And he couldn't be more right! Oh, those aquamarine eyes of this princess! Her dazzling sunny face, her graceful ways and attitude... All more than enough to captivate any lucky soul, no, not even an entire iceberg could be immune to such beauty. He didn't have a single doubt. His Pack was blessed by the Moon and it wasn't just any blessing... His jaw dropped even further when Illaria, shocked by the young Beta's unexpected reaction and praise, began to murmur, "Oh, I'm... I'm so happy to know you like me, Beta." She was really shocked and relieved. The Alpha Princess was getting very worried by his looks... and now, once the relief and shock wave wear off, the girl is left with just a blush on her pale cheeks. "Anyway, what one person says about another says more about themselves than about the object of their vision; still, I appreciate you saying that, Beta." She lowers her eyes, sniggering, coyly. "I really do." No one would know how much she was internally despairing at the ideas of what her life would be like now in a Pack that would be hated and mistreated by everyone. She would not only be an outsider, but one of the Warren clan, seen as an enemy of everyone in this new Pack. And the despair increased even more as she imagined how her life could be an even greater hell than with her father for the next few years living this farce she invented... then receiving these unexpected compliments from this Beta, even if they are only temporary, while he doesn't know the truth, they had been a real relief. "Oh, and our Luna has such a humble demeanor... that's not so common for such a beauty and for such an important Alpha princess..." Austin muses, shaking his head as if he's having a hard time believing his luck. And his Alpha. He is sure she's the Luna they’ve all been needing. "By the way, I'm Beta Austin." As a daughter of the Warren clan, regardless of what her father said, Illaria knew that was inevitably how everyone would see her. So, she no longer thought she could receive anything but rejections from this new Pack, but this sudden warmth from this Beta was a gift from the Moon for the young princess that moves her on a disastrous day like this. "I'm very happy to meet you Beta Austin. You can call me Illaria..." She says with heated sincerity and really wishes this guy wouldn't start hating her when he found out the truth. "Oh, I wouldn't dare. Anyway, I'm so happy to call you Luna, oh, my Luna." Beta Austin responds quickly and politely, and smiles pleasantly, giving her a collusive look, after saying his new favorite word with a respectful nod. "All right...” Illaria draws quietly nd nods, accepting her inevitable - somewhat inopportune - new title. Maybe this Beta didn't need to find out truth, and she could count on his lightness and friendship for many days in this new - and inhospitable - place, unless he was... "Uh... Beta Austin, if I may ask, by chance, you wouldn't be Alpha Zawyer's personal Beta, would you?" And that, without a doubt, would be bad, it would make it even more frightening and something to be really careful about from now on... Then Illaria swallows hard when she hears his answer: "Yes I am." A smug smile appears on his face as he puts his elbow on the backrest of his seat, feeling more comfortable. "Why? It's really hard to believe? We're nothing alike, right?" He laughs at her slightly quaked expression. Illaria had trained herself to be very good at hiding her emotions, but apparently not well enough this time to completely avoid showing her surprise. "Uh... it's just that you seem to be much more..." Human. "Warm, if I may say so." Beta Austin laughs at her hesitation with words, but he is readily prepared to defend his Alpha when he speaks again. "Yes, he seems cold... but he's a great guy, I mean, a King. A great King, definitely. And an impeccable Alpha. I'm so proud to be his Beta. Forever proud. An honor of a lifetime." Illaria could see the admiration on his face, and hear it in his worshipful words. It's quite notable that this Beta is extremely loyal and would do anything for his Alpha, so she immediately knows that she should never appear hostile with the Alpha around him. As expected of a true Beta from an Alpha, Beta Austin offers complete loyalty in perfection. "He really is the most powerful Wolf I've ever seen." Illaria limits herself to saying it then; although she can't help but murmur her true feelings towards this fact, since they are so strong that they make her skin crawl when she thinks about his image again. "Easily the scariest, actually." Austin assesses her expression as he sees the girl shift her gaze to the window, still looking shaky. "My Alpha is the best protector of what is his, Luna. I couldn't even imagine how much more he wouldn't be when he met his mate... And you're here now. There's nothing to worry about... Uh... Of course, our Luna being the princess of the Warren clan is completely unexpected, though… Still..." He follows her eyes to the garden of the Golden Moon Pack Castle, and although they hadn't had any major battles there, there were still large bloodstains around. "Oh, I'm so sorry about all this, Luna, such a bad day... everything that happened..." Beta Austin is suddenly embarrassed as he frames the girl's entire situation and thinks about how she must imagine Alpha Zawyer and their entire Pack right now… He then swears under his breath, hoping she can't hear. However, his instant change of mood makes the girl nervous; he was the best welcome she could hope to have anywhere, especially from a Pack that was an enemy of hers. And the princess knows that she isn't even really his Luna. Illaria feels bad for deceiving him like that, but she also knows that she didn't want to lose this good welcome for at least one day, for at least today, maybe with luck for a little longer... But that is the Alpha's personal Beta… He would undoubtedly know the whole truth at the first private moment he has with Alpha Zawyer, and she is aware of it. "No, I'm the one who should be apologizing, Beta Austin. Everything's going to be okay. I promise. Thank you for your kindness, Beta, I really appreciate it.” "Of course, Luna. It's a pleasure..." They sit in this awkward silence for a second. "Uh, I'll wait for the Alpha outside, with your permission, Luna..." Illaria feels so tired at this point; she doesn't really know what to expect from all this from now on. She was alone and knows that she will be walking on eggshells in Alpha Zawyer's Pack the entire time. And with Alpha Zawyer himself! The one who can decide to take everyone's life at any time due to any kind of failure of hers. The young woman swallows some feelings of panic in a lump in her throat and limits herself to just waving tensely at the White Wolf, who was still waiting for her permission to leave. Beta Austin then leaves the car.
