Shadows of Destiny Episode 3: The Beast Beneath the Mountain The cave trembled again. Dust drifted from the ceiling as another earth-shaking roar echoed through the darkness. The sound was unlike anything Kai had ever heard. It wasn't just loud—it carried a strange power that made his heart race and sent chills down his spine. Lyra tightened her grip on her dagger. "Stay behind me," she whispered. Kai picked up the Sword of Destiny. Its blue glow returned, brighter than before, as though the weapon had sensed the danger approaching. The tunnel ahead was swallowed by darkness. Heavy footsteps echoed from deep below. Boom... Boom... Boom... Each step grew louder. Then two enormous golden eyes appeared in the darkness. Kai froze. The creature slowly emerged into the faint light of the cave. It stood nearly three times the height of a man, its body covered in black scales streaked with glowing silver lines. Massive horns curved backward from its head, while crystal-like claws scraped against the rocky floor. It wasn't preparing to attack. It was watching them. "The Mountain Guardian," Lyra whispered. "I thought it was only a legend." The creature lowered its head and stared directly at Kai. Instead of roaring, it spoke in a deep, ancient voice. "You carry the Light." Kai almost dropped the sword. "You... can talk?" "I have waited many centuries for the Guardian's return." Before Kai could answer, the cave shook violently. A deafening explosion echoed from behind them. The entrance collapsed inward as crimson flames burst through the rocks. "The Shadow Legion!" Lyra shouted. Dark soldiers poured into the cavern, led by the commander Kai had faced in the forest. "You cannot hide forever," the commander called. "Hand over the Guardian." The Mountain Guardian stepped between Kai and the soldiers. "You have entered sacred ground," it growled. The commander laughed. "Then I shall conquer sacred ground." With a wave of his hand, dozens of soldiers charged. The battle erupted. The Guardian slammed one massive claw into the ground, sending a shockwave through the cavern. Several soldiers were thrown into the walls, their weapons shattering on impact. Lyra rushed forward, moving with incredible speed. Her twin daggers flashed through the air as she disarmed two enemies before rolling beneath another attack. Kai stood frozen. His mind raced. "What do I do?" The Sword of Destiny began to glow brighter. A familiar voice echoed inside his mind. Fight. He tightened his grip. Taking a deep breath, Kai charged into battle. The first soldier swung a crimson blade. Kai raised the sword just in time. The weapons collided, releasing a burst of blue energy that forced the attacker backward. Another soldier attacked from the side. Kai instinctively turned, and the glowing symbols on his arm lit up. A shield of blue light appeared around him, blocking the strike. Lyra smiled. "You're learning." The commander frowned. "So the Guardian's power grows." He removed a long black spear from his back. Dark lightning danced across its blade. Without warning, he hurled it at Kai. Time seemed to slow. Kai couldn't move. The spear flew closer. Suddenly, the Mountain Guardian leaped between them. The spear pierced its shoulder. The giant beast roared in pain but remained standing. "No!" Kai shouted. Rage surged through him. The Sword of Destiny exploded with brilliant blue light. Energy burst from the blade like a wave across the cavern. Every soldier was thrown backward. Even the commander struggled to remain standing. For a brief moment, silence filled the cave. The Mountain Guardian slowly turned toward Kai. Its golden eyes glowed warmly. "The Light has accepted you." The beast reached into the stone wall and pulled out an ancient crystal pendant hanging from a silver chain. "This belongs to the Guardian." Kai accepted it carefully. The crystal immediately began glowing with the same blue light as his sword. "What is it?" he asked. "The Heart Crystal," the Guardian replied. "It will guide you when darkness clouds your path." The commander slowly climbed to his feet, wiping blood from the corner of his mouth. "This changes nothing." He pointed toward Kai. "The Shadow King already knows your name." A cold silence swept across the cavern. "The next time we meet," the commander continued, "he will come himself." A swirling portal of black smoke appeared behind the remaining soldiers. One by one, they disappeared into the darkness. The commander was the last to leave. "You cannot escape destiny," he said before vanishing. The cave became quiet once more. The Mountain Guardian breathed heavily. Its wound glowed with dark energy. Lyra hurried to its side. "Can you survive?" The Guardian smiled faintly. "My duty is fulfilled." It looked at Kai. "The road ahead leads to the Temple of Dawn. There, the truth about your parents—and your destiny—awaits." Before Kai could ask another question, the Guardian's body slowly turned into countless glowing particles of light. Within seconds, it was gone. Only silence remained. Kai stared at the crystal pendant in his hand. His journey had only just begun. Far away, inside a fortress hidden beneath endless storm clouds, a figure cloaked in darkness sat upon a throne of black stone. The Shadow King opened his crimson eyes. "So," he whispered. The Guardian lives." A cold smile spread across his face. "Prepare the armies." "The age of shadows has begun. "The Guardian lives." A cold smile spread across his face. "Prepare the armies." "The age of shadows has begun."
