The pack woke to the sound of carts before dawn.
The square was packed with wagons loaded with provisions and military supplies, and the warriors setting out for battle moved through them like a tide, checking their straps and counting their arrows.
The elders stood at the camp gate, and Jack mingled with a group of cubs, darting back and forth between the wheels.
When he saw me, he immediately stood on his tiptoes and strained to wave at me from beyond the wheels.
