Chapter Five
Kayla reached out to Brett when she saw him start to remove the bracelet. “No.” She was too slow. She closed her eyes as he let the bracelet fall from his fingers. There was dead silence. Kayla reluctantly opened her eyes. Red stood, finger pointed at Brett, who she couldn’t see, her mouth open. Brett stood with hands on his hips and Jeff started to laugh as he watched Red.
Red turned on Jeff. “This is your doing, isn’t it? How’d you do it? I hate you. You’ve always got to hassle me.”
Kayla picked up the bracelet and held it out. “Brett. Show yourself again.”
Red looked at Kayla, a shocked look on her face. “You’re in on this too? How could you? I thought we were best friends.”
“Brett. Enough. You’re making a mess of everything.” Kayla continued to hold the bracelet out.
