The Lost Alpha
Chapter One
ZEAL
I stood beside a window, my muscles strike beneath my tight shirt—I slightly rolled up my sleeve to the elbow, my eyes crinkled deeply into the thick dark forest as the morning sun pierced through the window, the faint aroma of Espresso curled up from the mug—scorched through my jawline as I tightened my grip on its handle—savored it—its intense, rich, and slightly bitter flavor softened in my tongue, I curled my lips into a soft smirk. A gentle touch reached for my shoulder—I turned to see who it was.
"Mom, it's you." My eyes lit up, astounded; I released my grip on her hand; I wasn't expecting her to return quickly.
"Did I make you startle?" Sarah asked, with a playful smile that curved up on her lips.
"Not at all. I'm Havoc myself, No one dares to scare me." I sneered." Tell me, Mom, how was the meeting at the pack?"
I sat her on the sofa as we chatted.
"Nothing much, new members joined. Jacob has already set a date for their welcoming ritual."
"Great! Yeah, that reminds me I’ve something important to discuss with Jacob." I used my werewolf heightened sense to signal Jacob; immediately, Jacob received the message. He appeared, his broad shoulders striking beneath his white shirt, striding briskly as he walked closer, his glassy eyes locked with mine.
He bowed and rose.
"I was worried you wouldn't receive my signal. Only a strong-minded person can access my signal, and here you are. The few lessons I gave you, finally, have paid off."
"I'm grateful for your trust, Alpha."
I picked up the remote on the desk and switched on the TV, I changed the channel to the news channel which was a repeat from yesterday's news that I had watched, the voice of a female anchor came through, on the screen it showed the blurry part of humans being massacred, how it happened the reason was still unknown to the media. It was later concluded that they were harmed by animals.
"Can you see that, Mom? Do you have any idea who did it…Jacob? I asked as I switched off the TV and hung my hand on the couch, glaring at him. I hope it is not from our pack? You know I don't like people going against my order. It will put our people in danger if the government finds out about our existence."
"No, Alpha, nothing like that is happening at the pack. I have everything under control, or maybe it's the werewolf hunters that captured your father. This might be their plan to lure us into their trap," Jacob analyzed.
‘’They dare to create a problem for our pack. We will fight back, but now is not the right time." I declared as I clenched my fist on the coffee mug, and it broke into pieces.
"I want you to inform the pack that the new members will join us in hunting the next full moon, and this time, I’ll join in the hunt."
Jacob's eyes widened astounded—when I said I’d join the hunting.
A quick flash of past memories drifted back to my head. Jacob and I were just eighteen back then, and my Dad, Alpha Nathan, took us for a hunt, which was our first; during the hunt, we were suddenly attacked by unknown werewolf hunters. We ran as fast as we could; Alpha Nathan quickly hid us in a small cave; he covered the entrance with dried grass. I demanded that he hide with us in the cave. Alpha Nathan assured us of coming back to get us later; he warned us not to come out of the cave, no matter what happens. We awaits his arrival—a few minutes had passed only for us to see the hunters with masks on their faces—shot an arrow at Alpha Nathan, he roared in pain as he dropped to his knees, my face widened seeing my Dad being captured and caged, I tried to call out my Dad but Jacob quickly used his hand to cup my mouth preventing me from altering the hunters.
And ever since Dad was taken away from us, Mom is a human, there was limit to what she can do to find Dad and the park needed a new leader, the power was passed down to me and I became the Alpha of the pack and Jacob became my Beta, we tried to move on and forget the past and still tracking Dad’s where about all our effort were in vain. Mom was too heartbroken that she developed depression, and staying at the park will only make things worse. Since I suffered from the trauma, which resulted to us moving to Mom’s Penthouse in D.C and I never showed my face in the pack again that was the best decision to keep my identity from the spies and werewolf hunters since they were not aware of my existence, I hid myself not because I was scared but, we moved to another city but I never stopped searching for Dad. I left the pack when I was still young, so none of the pack members except Jacob know what I looked like or where to find me.
I travelled back to reality.
"Alpha, it's almost night. I need to take my leave; I don't want the people at the pack to let their guard down while I'm away."
"This time around, we must find your father; I just hope he is s
till alive,” Mom said, with a tearful voice.
