she's gone 7

Chapter 7 Con POV I drove home in silence, the tires humming against the pavement, the only sound that dared to fill the space between me and my thoughts. Kolf wasn’t speaking to me. He was furious—again. I didn’t care. He was wrong. Penny would never truly reject me. She didn’t have it in her. I had been gone three days. A necessary mission. The rogues handled their part well…left the message exactly as I ordered. The boy’s father would find him and blame Jasmine’s pack. Once a royal is killed, retaliation is law. Blood for blood. Jasmine would pay. It was a move Penny would’ve tried to stop. So I didn’t tell her. Some sacrifices are necessary. I didn’t care who got hurt. I had left my claw mark carved into the vampire prince’s face. He wouldn’t last long. And if he did, it wouldn’t matter…I’d finish the job myself. When I pulled up to the house, the rogues at the entrance smirked like they always did. One day I might wipe those looks off their faces permanently…The house was dark…Still mad, huh? I grabbed the flowers from the back seat along with the small velvet box. Ruby necklace. Her favorite stone. All I had to do was clasp it around her neck, whisper a promise about marking her once my revenge was complete, and she’d melt….She always did. I unlocked the door and stepped inside. “Penny, honey, I’m home.”...Silence. Maybe she was asleep. Fine. I was starving anyway. I walked into the kitchen. No plate on the table. Oven empty. Microwave empty. I set the flowers and the necklace on the counter. She knew what I liked for dinner. Maybe she left it upstairs. I didn’t want to go up there…but I did. “She’s not up there, sir.” I turned. The omega stood there, holding out my usual glass of brandy….I took it. “If she’s not upstairs, then where is she? Did she go out?” He shook his head. “Sir… she packed her bags. Then left. If you’d like, I can send people to search.” I laughed. The sound echoed through the hallway…A game. She was playing a game. The last time she left, she came back in a day…crying, begging, promising to do better. “Thank you, Medi,” I said, waving him off. She could’ve at least made dinner before storming out. Loosening my tie, I headed upstairs. My hand dragged through my hair. I was exhausted…When I flipped on the bedroom light, the first thing I noticed was the closet doors hanging open. She could’ve closed them..I stepped inside…Empty. Her dresses. Her coats. Her shoes. Gone…Only bare hangers swayed slightly…The dresser drawers? Empty…Even her paperwork was gone…Then I checked my office cabinet. The business files….Gone…What the hell? I grabbed my phone and dialed her…One ring. Two. Three. Voicemail. “Listen carefully, Penny. If you are not back here in the next few minutes with the paperwork I need, I will reject you. I’m not playing. Get back here. Now.”...That would scare her. “Hey, dumbass,” Kolf’s voice growled inside my head. “She already rejected us. You pushed her away. I told you those skanks weren’t worth it. She knew. She knew everything.” A sharp pain exploded in my chest..Not physical…Deeper. Like something tearing. She… really did it. I started laughing. She rejected me? And left?..Fine. I called again. She declined it….I left another message. “Oh, Penny… you have no idea what you’ve done. Reject me all you want. I accept it. Everything is mine now. Every single thing. Don’t come crawling back….I won’t take you.”..I hung up. Then my neck burned…Right where she marked me. I rushed into the bathroom and stared into the mirror. The mark was fading..darkening..twisting into scar tissue. “Kolf… are you still with me?” “Unfortunately. I’m not that easy to get rid of. I stay until the Moon Goddess takes me… or you destroy us completely.” I didn’t like the way he said that. I went downstairs, needing food..anything…Then it hit…A wave of power…Ancient. Cold. Commanding…I gripped the counter to steady myself. A shift…A claim…The vampire prince had found his mate. He was alive…Which meant he would ascend soon. “Damn it,” I hissed. If the king finds him first, everything will unravel. My involvement. The trap. All of it…Tomorrow…Tomorrow I hunt him down myself. I have to kill him before the king claims him. But tonight…Tonight I sleep...Because tomorrow, I finish what I started.
