Amara drove home with trembling hands. The anonymous messages kept replaying in her mind.
"Your wedding won't happen unless you tell everyone what you did seven years ago."
She had spent years convincing herself that the past was buried forever.
As she entered her apartment, she locked the door and leaned against it, trying to calm her racing heart.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
She froze.
Who could it be at this hour?
Slowly, she walked to the door and looked through the peephole.
No one.
Confused, she opened the door.
A small brown envelope lay on the floor.
Her heartbeat quickened as she picked it up.
Inside was an old photograph.
Amara gasped.
It was a picture of her and a young man standing beside a blue car... taken exactly seven years ago.
On the back of the photograph were five chilling words:
"You can't hide forever."
Her hands shook so badly that the photo slipped to the floor.
Just then, her phone rang.
It was Daniel.
"Baby, I'm outside your apartment," he said cheerfully. "I brought your favorite ice cream."
Amara quickly wiped away her tears, hid the photograph inside a drawer, and opened the door with a smile.
Daniel hugged her warmly.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"I'm fine," she lied.
As they talked, neither of them noticed a man standing across the street, watching them from inside a parked black car.
The mysterious stranger smiled.
"So... you still don't remember me, Amara."
He started the engine and drove away into the night.
To be continued.
