BENEATH THE PERFECT SMILE

The hall echoed with applause as Amara Okafor stepped onto the stage to receive the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Cameras flashed from every corner. Her elegant smile lit up the room, and everyone admired the confident woman standing before them. "She has the perfect life," someone whispered. "She's beautiful, successful, and she's getting married next month," another replied. Amara smiled even wider as she accepted the award. "Thank you for believing in me," she said. "Never give up on your dreams." The audience rose to their feet in applause. But the moment she stepped off the stage and entered the ladies' restroom, her smile disappeared. She stared at her reflection in the mirror. Tears gathered in her eyes. Her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen. Unknown Number Her heart skipped a beat as she opened the message. «"Congratulations on your award. But remember... no smile can hide the truth forever. I'll see you soon."» Her hands began to shake. She quickly looked around. The restroom was empty. "Who knows?" she whispered. Another message arrived almost immediately. «"Your wedding won't happen unless you tell everyone what you did seven years ago."» Amara's face turned pale. Seven years ago... The one memory she had spent years trying to bury. Just then, her fiancé, Daniel, called. "Baby, where are you? Everyone is waiting for us." Amara wiped her tears, forced another smile onto her face, and replied softly, "I'm coming." She took one last look at herself in the mirror.
