Chapter One : The Sin I never Planned (His Secret Heir)
Avery (POV)
"Haistt… " I whispered as I closed my eyes, letting the weight of the long, chaotic day in the ministry crash over me.
A soft ting broke the silence.
My phone lit up with a new message.
From: Solana
Free ka tom, diba? I booked you a ticket coming here. Let’s hang out please… I miss you so much 😘
I stared at the screen for a moment.
Paano pa ako makatanggi? May ticket na.
I sighed and typed my reply.
Me: May magagawa pa ba ako? Gumastos ka na eh… hmmmp.
Si Grace, bakit ‘di mo sinama?
Almost instantly, she replied.
From: Solana
Wag na ‘yon. Tatanggi lang din siya pag niyaya ko. Tsaka ‘yung inaanak natin, kailangan pang alagaan. Saka na lang siya pag medyo maluwag na.
And para lang ‘to sa single hahahaha!
I have a surprise for you! Makakapunta ka na sa “langit” bukas hahaha!
I frowned slightly at the last line.
A surprise?
Kinakabahan tuloy ako sa kaibigan kong ‘to. Pero bahala na. Kailangan ko rin magpahinga… at saka, namimiss ko na rin siya. Halos anim na buwan na kaming hindi nagkikita.
I typed one last reply.
Me: Okay, see you tomorrow… muah 😘
I pressed send, then slowly set my phone down beside me, unaware that tomorrow would change everything.
------++++++++
The morning came too fast...
The plane landed with a soft jolt.
Avery exhaled slowly as the passengers around her began to stand. NAIA was loud and crowded—too different from the quiet pace she was used to in Davao.
She tightened her grip on her small travel bag.
Haistt…
Not just from physical tiredness, but from months of ministry work that had drained her more than she admitted.
She whispered a short prayer under her breath before stepping out.
“Lord, keep me grounded.”
NAIA Airport – Manila
The heat outside hit her instantly.
Avery squinted slightly as she checked her phone.
Solana: Nasa Makati ka na ba? I’ll send you the hotel details. I already booked everything 😘
Avery shook her head with a small smile.
“That girl…”
A few moments later, the message arrived.
(Fairmont Makati – Reservation Details)
Avery paused.
“Fairmont…”
She exhaled slowly. “Of course.”
She didn’t argue. Solana had always been like this—generous, impulsive, and always doing things her own way.
(Makati – Fairmont Hotel)
The building stood tall and elegant in the heart of Makati—modern glass, luxury lighting, and an atmosphere that immediately felt expensive.
Avery stepped inside.
Cool air. Marble floors. Soft piano music. Polite, professional staff.
She looked down at her outfit—an elegant but modest dress, soft fabric that flowed naturally without revealing too much. It wasn’t flashy, but it carried quiet grace. Avery never believed in dressing to expose; for her, beauty was always in dignity and simplicity.
The receptionist greeted her warmly.
“Good afternoon, ma’am. Welcome to Fairmont Makati.”
Avery gave her name and reservation details.
After checking, the receptionist smiled.
“Yes, ma’am. Your room has been upgraded to a premium suite under special arrangement.”
Avery blinked.
“Upgraded?”
She hesitated but nodded.
“Thank you.”
Hotel Suite – Fairmont Makati
Room 1808.
The key card clicked, and the door opened.
Avery stepped inside—and paused.
The suite was breathtaking. Floor-to-ceiling windows revealed Makati’s skyline glowing like scattered stars. The room was quiet, spacious, and overwhelmingly luxurious.
For a moment, she just stood there.
“Ang laki naman nito…”
She placed her bag down carefully and walked toward the window.
Everything outside looked fast, bright, and distant.
She closed her eyes.
“Lord… I just need peace.”
Her phone buzzed.
Solana: Rest ka muna dyan. I’ll pick you up later for dinner 😘
Avery replied simply.
Me: Okay.
--------+++++++
Later that evening, Avery stepped into the lobby.
She was still dressed in the same outfit—elegant, modest, and naturally graceful. Nothing revealing, nothing loud, but she still stood out in a quiet way that didn’t ask for attention.
She waited near the seating area.
A familiar voice called out.
“Avery!”
Solana walked toward her quickly, smiling wide.
Grabe, ang tagal natin di nagkita.”
Avery smiled back and hugged her briefly.
“You really booked everything for me, ha.”
Solana just laughed.
“May discount ako, hello? Hotel supervisor perks,” she said proudly. “Sayang naman kung di kita i-treat.”
Avery shook her head lightly. “You’re still the same.”
“And you’re still overworked,” Solana replied. “Kaya tonight, relax ka lang. Dinner tayo.”
Avery raised a brow. “Walang surprise muna?”
Solana smirked. “Dinner first.”
Dinner – Fine Dining Restaurant (Makati)
The restaurant was inside a high-end building near Fairmont Makati—soft lighting, calm music, and an atmosphere that made everything feel slower.
Avery sat across from Solana.
“This is where you usually go?” Avery asked.
Solana nodded. “Yeah. This is Makati life. If you want connections, you go where the powerful people go.”
Avery frowned slightly. “You think too much about connections.”
Solana smiled. “That’s how you grow here.”
They ate, talked, and caught up on months of missed life—ministry stories, struggles, laughter, and small updates that filled the gap between distance.
For a moment, it felt normal again.
But Solana kept checking her phone in between conversations.
Waiting.
Planning.
Thinking ahead.
Avery noticed—but didn’t say anything.
When night deepened, Solana finally stood.
“Come on. We’re going somewhere.”
Avery tilted her head. “Where now?”
Solana smiled mysteriously.
“You’ll see.”
-----------+++++++++
The night in Makati felt different the moment they left the restaurant.
The city lights stretched endlessly as Solana led the way, her steps confident, like she already knew exactly where everything was going.
Avery followed quietly.
“Where are we going again?” she asked softly.
Solana only smiled.
“You’ll see.”
The car stopped in front of a luxury hotel complex.
Avery looked up.
It didn’t look like a bar.
It looked like power.
They entered through a private entrance, where a security guard nodded at Solana without a word. A hidden elevator opened after a quick scan.
Avery frowned slightly.
“This feels… very exclusive.”
Solana smirked. “That’s the point.”
The elevator doors closed.
A soft golden light filled the space as they rose upward.
Avery exhaled slowly.
Something about this place made her uneasy—but she couldn’t explain why.
The doors opened.
And the world changed.
Dim golden lighting. Glass walls. City skyline glowing like scattered stars. Soft jazz music floating through the air like smoke.
People inside didn’t look like ordinary guests.
They looked like decisions.
Businessmen in tailored suits. Women in elegant dresses. Conversations happening in low voices that sounded more like deals than laughter.
Avery instinctively adjusted her posture.
Even dressed in her modest elegance, she felt out of place—but not insecure. Just… aware.
She didn’t believe in exposing herself to feel confident. Her presence was enough. Quiet, graceful, covered, but still undeniably composed.
Solana leaned in.
“See? This is where you meet opportunities.”
Avery frowned. “You always say that.”
Solana only smiled.
“Because it’s true.”
They were guided to a private lounge—glass-walled, softly lit, overlooking the city below.
A reserved sign sat on the table.
Avery sat carefully.
“This is too much,” she murmured.
Solana laughed lightly. “Relax. I got this for cheap. Hotel supervisor perks, remember?”
Avery shook her head.
“You and your perks…”
But she smiled anyway.
For a while, it felt normal again.
They talked.
About old memories.
About how life had changed since they last saw each other.
Avery laughed softly at one point, shaking her head.
“I miss when things were simpler.”
Solana didn’t respond immediately.
Her phone lit up.
She glanced at it.
Then again.
And again.
She was waiting.
And Avery checking the whole room and saw a bed...
in her mind " she's amazed, kasi my bed agad kung malasing ka pwede ka ng matulog agad."
Habang busy sa pagmuni muni
the waiter arrived quietly.
Two glasses were placed on the table—elegant, crystal-clear, glowing under the light.
Solana slid one toward Avery.
“Just relax tonight,” she said.
Avery hesitated.
A small pause.
Then she accepted it.
“Just one,” she said softly.
She wasn’t someone who easily indulged—but she trusted her friend.
Solana smiled.
But it didn’t fully reach her eyes.
Avery took a slow sip.
At first, nothing felt different.
She set the glass down gently, continuing the conversation as Solana spoke about the people around them, about opportunities, about “connections.”
But after a few minutes… something shifted.
Avery blinked.
Once.
Twice.
Her skin felt warmer than before—subtle at first, like the room’s temperature had slightly changed.
She adjusted in her seat.
“Mainit ba dito?” she asked softly.
Solana glanced at her. “Hmm? Hindi naman.”
Avery nodded slowly, but something inside her felt… off.
Her thoughts weren’t as sharp.
The voices around her seemed slightly farther away, like they were underwater.
She pressed her fingers lightly against her temple.
“Maybe I’m just tired,” she whispered.
But the feeling didn’t go away.
It spread quietly—warmth in her chest, a strange restlessness she couldn’t explain. Not pain. Not illness. Just… discomfort she couldn’t name.
She looked toward the glass wall.
The city lights outside shimmered slightly, almost too bright.
Avery swallowed.
“Solana…”
Her voice was softer now.
Solana turned. “Yeah?”
Avery hesitated.
“I feel… weird.”
Solana studied her for a brief moment.
Then smiled gently—too gently.
“It’s probably just the alcohol hitting you. You’re not used to it.”
Avery frowned faintly.
That didn’t feel right.
But her thoughts were starting to slow.
Her body leaned back into the chair as if it suddenly felt heavier than before.
She closed her eyes for a second.
Just a second.
And when she opened them again…
The room didn’t feel as steady as it used to.
---------++++++
Outside the VIP lounge, footsteps passed again.
Closer this time.
Still uneven.
Still searching.
And the wrong door… was only a few steps away....
