28 Dex The Lady’s poisonous spell churns through my blood. Everything around me melts into a haze. Thoughts flash through my mind, incomplete and jagged. My wolf falls unconscious within me. I don’t remember leaving the Apex or finding my return portal. There’s one thing I do recall, though. As I step into the transport, more black smoke erupts above my skin. No question what that extra haze means. The Lady’s magic isn’t playing well with the portal. Sure enough, my journey home is a mess. What should have been a short tumble becomes a long fall. All the while, black smoke clogs my lungs and burns my eyes. Which is where I am now. Wind swirls around me. Shadows abound. Acidic smoke sears me until, at last, I land on solid ground.
