6 Grayson I stand inside the Prism Master’s magic study. One more step and I reach the outer hallway. The door to this room will slam shut. All of which means I’m one motion before giving up on escape. Saving my life. And accepting the prison that is the Bartlebee. The idea relieves and revolts, all at once. Magic constantly churns inside me. It’s as if I’m always wading through a slow-flowing stream. Suddenly, that power rises up inside my soul. My limbs hum with energy. Vision sharpens. Time stands still. Fire erupts. One moment, I stand just inside the magic study room. The next second, I’m encased in emerald flame. It doesn’t burn or hurt.
