Chapter 22Fort Keeps, NY — Adirondacks — October 1912 Sheriff Benji O'Sullivan stepped out of the corner bar. He'd left a broken man inside. He explained that, for the time being Jacob and Caleb would remain in custody while things got sorted out. There wasn't much to sort out. Caleb broke down crying when questioned. No confession, but nearly as good as one. Jacob would be tougher. He had them separated. A deputy stayed with Caleb. O'Sullivan wanted Jacob isolated. He wished he had news for Ms. Crosby.
