Chapter 28Jeremy gave Uncle Jack a rundown of everything that happened. His uncle didn't look happy about any of it and for a while, the two sat in silence at the kitchen table. The light bulb in the fixture overhead hummed. “So that was the last you heard from her? The text?” Jack said. “Yeah. Nothing since.” Jack said, “Have your phone?” For a split second, Jeremy thought the sheriff had his phone. He clapped a hand onto his pocket. It was there.
