Chapter 1: True vs. False Heiresses in the Orc Realm
Chapter 1: True vs. False Heiresses in the Orc Realm “Wuuu wuuu wuuu… Sis… Sis, don’t go to meet the Beast God… Wuuu wuuu wuuu…” “Sis… Wuuu wuuu…” “…” The noisy sound of crying roused An Luo from her unconscious slumber. “Aaaaaah! No, help!!!” She shot upright, gasping for air in huge gulps, stark terror shining clear in her eyes. “Wuh? Sis… You’re awake at last, wuuu wuuu wuuu!” The cub had been sobbing hard; seeing her suddenly sit up, he froze for a second before throwing himself over joyfully to hug her. The sudden embrace left An Luo, who was used to keeping to herself, frozen stiff, completely at a loss. A flood of unfamiliar memories crashed into her mind, making her already throbbing head pound violently. The agony only faded slowly once she’d fully absorbed all the memories. An Luo’s eyes widened in utter shock. Had she… transmigrated into another world? As a hardcore novel fan and a struggling little writer, she knew for certain she’d joined the ranks of transmigrators! Compared to most other transmigrated women, however, her situation was far from ideal—it was downright abysmal. She’d crossed into a primeval orc world where people lived off raw meat and blood. The original body’s owner had been the only female cub of the Tiger Clan Chieftain, leader of the four major tribes under the Beast King’s Court. Relying on this status, she’d run amok in the court, bullying the weak, acting exactly like a vicious supporting female character. As the only female child in the family, she’d been doted on excessively by the Tiger Chieftain, his mate, and all her elder brothers, which only fueled her arrogance and wild temper. Two months prior, a young female cub around her age had come to the Tiger Tribe with a little beast cub to claim her blood kin—the Tiger Chieftain’s family, naturally. After the High Priest ran a bloodline test, everyone learned the visiting young female was the chieftain’s true biological daughter, while the original girl was merely an imposter who’d stolen another’s nest. An Luo raised an eyebrow. This was literally a Beast World version of the classic “genuine vs fake rich daughter” trope! Females and cubs were always priceless in this world. Even though she was not blood-related, the Tiger Chieftain had no intention of casting her out. She kept all her original privileges; after all, he’d loved her sincerely for years. The little cub, however, was far less fortunate. Though taken in by the Tiger Tribe, he was forced to live in the juvenile caves with barely enough food to survive, going hungry most days. Even so, the original girl remained unsatisfied. She blamed the true young female for stealing her status and everyone’s affection, so she constantly picked fights with her, leaving the real girl wounded every time she returned to her cave. After countless such incidents, the Tiger Chieftain’s family gradually grew cold toward the original girl, growing more and more displeased with her. The final straw came when she viciously pushed the true young female into a river, nearly drowning her. Enraged, the chieftain drove her out of the family cave and made her move into the juvenile caves alongside the little cub. Her quality of life plummeted from that day on. After the attempted murder, she was banned from approaching the Tiger clan’s core family and shunned by all the other young cubs in the juvenile caves. The food she was allocated was often stolen from her. Starving, she’d resorted to snatching food from the little cub, her supposed younger brother. The weak, helpless cub could only seethe in silence, too afraid to speak up. Every time, he would wait for her to finish eating before picking over leftover fruit pits to fill his stomach. On days when hunger gnawed at him terribly, he would sneak outside the tribe to pluck tree leaves just to stay alive. In less than a month, the once chubby cub wasted away, gaunt and bony, looking as if a single gust of wind could knock him over. Even this did not stop the original girl. She took all her resentment toward the true young female out on the helpless cub. If this cub hadn’t shifted into human form, the true young female would never have acted strangely, the priest would never have discovered her mismatched bloodline, and the original girl’s easy life would never have ended. For this reason, the original girl hated the cub bitterly. Beating and abusing him became daily occurrences. This time, she happened to run into the young female and got nothing out of their encounter. She took all her pent-up fury out on the cub, beating him until his body was covered in wounds, too battered to even crawl. Later, desperate to get rid of the cub who she saw as a useless burden, the vicious girl dragged him deep into the wild, untamed mountains. It had been the original host’s first time leaving the tribe, and the cub was far too young to know the way. The outcome was predictable. The pair got lost deep in the wild mountain territory. As misfortunes never came singly, they accidentally stumbled upon a ferocious beast out hunting for food. The sister and cub froze in terror. While scrambling to run away, they tripped over tangled vines and tumbled down a steep slope together. Though they escaped the beast’s pursuit, neither of them got away unscathed. The original host died on the spot. The cub fared slightly better without life-threatening injuries, yet a jagged rock had sliced a long, deep gash across his back. Even with the burning agony in his back, the cub had endured endless abuse at the hands of his elder sister. Still, the bond of blood made him unwilling to let his only blood kin leave him to return to the embrace of the Beast God. Ignoring the searing pain, he kept shaking her to rouse her. Little did he know, the soul that woke up in the body was An Luo, a girl from another world. Perhaps it was because An Luo shared the exact same name as the original host that she had been pulled into this body. Pulling herself out of her swirling thoughts, An Luo gently pried the cub’s arms off her body. She frowned tightly at his gaunt, starved face, a flicker of pity softening her eyes. Poor little cub—he had suffered far more than she had as a child. An Luo had been an abandoned infant. According to the orphanage matron, she had been left alone on the orphanage’s doorstep when she was less than three days old, abandoned amid heavy snow, a pitiful sight to behold. She had been lucky, for the matron had taken a liking to her and adopted her. Tragedy struck before she finished primary school: the overworked matron passed away from illness, leaving her orphaned once more to return to the orphanage. Back at the orphanage, An Luo struggled through constant hunger and cold yet never slacked off. Through relentless hard work, she gained admission to a key local university. To make ends meet amid her tight finances, she began writing online novels. With sheer perseverance, she earned enough money from manuscript fees to cover all her living expenses and tuition fees for four years of university. Just as graduation loomed on the horizon and she thought she’d finally escape her miserable life, a zombie virus broke out. As a frail college student with no combat skills, she became one of the first victims to perish. Now, after transmigrating to this world, she was alive—and she even had a blood-related younger brother. The strange, warm feeling filled her heart with gratitude. “Sis? Sis?” “Hm? What is it, cub?” An Luo lowered her head and spoke to him softly at his call. The gentle tone left the cub utterly stunned. His tiny mind buzzed with confusion. How could his normally fierce, menacing sister suddenly turn so tender? Unable to figure it out, he pushed the thought aside. He shook his head and nervously scanned their surroundings, raw fear flickering in his eyes—a primal orc instinct warning him of the mountain’s dangers. “Sis, the sky is growing dark.” An Luo lifted her gaze to the sky. Towering lush trees stretched high to block out most sunlight, casting everything in shadow. Even with her careless, laid-back personality, she could tell the light had dimmed significantly since earlier. The mountains were deadly dangerous even in broad daylight; she dared not imagine what horrors awaited after nightfall. But where could they possibly go if they left? With their short, weak legs, they would surely be spotted by hunting beasts lingering at the mountain’s edges long before they reached the exit. It would be nothing short of walking straight into a predator’s mouth. She glanced around. The ground here was flat, ringed by tall mountains. Apart from the gurgle of a nearby stream, there were no other strange noises to be heard. No beasts had chased them after they tumbled down here, so they were relatively safe for the time being. After a moment’s consideration, An Luo decided they would camp here for the night and search for a path out at dawn tomorrow. She made up her mind and said, “We won’t head out of the mountains today. Come, Sis will take you to find something to eat.”
