At sunrise the next day, two men by the name Merry and Nicolas were seen on a boat fishing in the river. Nicolas the younger one was paddling the boat while Merry cast his nets into the river.
Suddenly, Nicholas stopped rowing the boat as heard the cry of a baby from the forest though it was not clear, so he asked. "Can you hear that?" To confirm if he was the only one hearing it.
"Hear what?" Merry asked in return while he still concentrated on his fishing.
"The cry of a child." Nicolas answered.
Then Merry stopped to listen for a moment. "I can hear only the sound of the river and not a cry." Replied Merry.
