"Open the gate!" Clifford commanded as soon as they arrived at the palace and the guards on watch hastily did as they were told by opening the palace gate for Clifford and his troop. So they rolled into the palace with the same speed which they used in arriving, until they got to the entrance of the throne room and none slowed his horse down.
As soon as the horses halted, Clifford jumped down from his ride, brought his father down, then the guards pushed the door open for him to go in while carrying his father in his hands.
"Where is Queen Kate?" Clifford asked immediately as he noticed that she was not present in the throne room.
