Blurb

He is the Alpha sworn to protect his pack. She is the hybrid born to shatter bloodlines. Fate never asked for their permission. In the shadowed depths of Veilwood Forest, Alpha Kael Thorne senses a disturbance, a scent that is not quite vampire, not quite wolf, and unlike anything he’s known. When he captures a mysterious intruder beneath a fractured moon, everything he believes about loyalty, blood, and destiny begins to unravel. Seraphine Duskmoor has spent her life hiding from hunters, from her heritage, and from the prophecy etched into her blood. Half vampire, half werewolf, she is an abomination to both worlds. But when Kael discovers she is his fated mate, centuries of peace begin to c***k. As ancient power is awakened and forbidden desire ignites, Kael must choose between the laws that bind him and the bond that could destroy them both. In a world where love is a weapon and secrets bleed power, can two enemies rewrite fate under the blood-stained moon?

CHAPTER ONE: THE SCENT OF DESTINY
The wind howled through the towering pines of Veilwood Forest, carrying with it the coppery tang of blood and something else. Something unnatural. Alpha Kael Thorne stood still beneath the watchful eye of the crescent moon, his body taut and his senses on high alert. His wolf stirred restlessly beneath his skin, pacing, growling, urging him to act. There was an intruder in his territory. Not just any trespasser. This scent was unlike anything he’d encountered before, sweet and sharp, cold and wild, like snow melting over fire. His sharp gaze scanned the darkness, golden eyes glowing faintly in the moonlight. The forest was quiet now. Too quiet. The usual rustle of nocturnal life had gone silent, as if nature itself held its breath. “Show yourself,” Kael growled into the shadows. A branch snapped. Leaves stirred. Then, from between the trees, a figure emerged, hooded and cloaked in midnight, moving like a ghost between realms. Kael bared his teeth. “You’ve made a mistake stepping into my land, bloodsucker.” The hood fell back. And his world tilted. She wasn’t just a vampire. Her eyes glowed a burning silver wolf's eyes. Yet her scent carried the chill of the undead. Her presence was an impossible contradiction, one that pulled at something primal in Kael’s chest. A vampire. A wolf. A hybrid. And stars help him, she was breathtaking. I’m not here to fight, she said calmly, though her stance remained poised to defend. Her voice was like smoke, soft, curling, dangerous. Unless you give me reason to. Kael's wolf snarled in response. Every rule, every instinct screamed that she was a threat, but another part of him, something deeper, howled with recognition. You don’t belong here, he said, stepping closer. “This forest is sacred. Our borders are not suggestions.” I didn’t come for your trees, Alpha, “I came for the truth.” Kael froze. She knew who he was. “And what truth would a half-blood be hunting in Veilwood?” Her lips quirked slightly, the shadow of a smile. “The kind only someone like you can help me find.” Kael’s chest tightened. The tension between them was no longer just territorial; it shimmered like static, like a live wire drawn too tight. His wolf pressed closer to the surface, curious now, no longer hostile. Name, he demanded. She hesitated for half a second, Seraphine. Seraphine… what? She shook her head slowly, Just Seraphine. Her voice was a strange melody, each word threading itself into his nerves. Kael didn’t miss the way she avoided giving a full name. Smart. She didn’t trust him. He didn’t trust her either. But he couldn’t kill her. Wouldn’t. Not yet. A low growl rolled from his throat. You’re coming with me. Her eyes narrowed. To interrogate me? “To protect you, he said”, surprising even himself. Or to keep my pack safe, whichever comes first. She considered, then gave a slow nod. “Lead the way, Alpha.” The walk back to the Thorne stronghold was silent but far from peaceful. Kael could feel Seraphine behind him, every step measured, her movements as fluid as a predator’s. She didn’t walk like prey. She walked like a queen stripped of her throne but not her power. As they passed through the veil of mist that protected the inner sanctum of his territory, Kael’s beta, Garrick, emerged from the shadows. You’re late, Garrick muttered, then his eyes fixed on Seraphine. His hand shot to his weapon. “Kael, she’s” I know what she is, Kael snapped, stepping in front of her. She’s not to be harmed. Garrick’s brows rose. You’re joking. I never joke, Kael said. “Put the blade down.” Seraphine looked amused, but Kael didn’t appreciate it. Inside the stronghold, stone and wood, glowing embers, the scent of pine and ash, Kael led her to a chamber near his own. Not a cell. But not freedom either. “You’ll stay here until I decide what to do with you,” he said. She stepped inside without argument, running her fingers over the old stone wall. Your people won’t like this. “They don’t have to,” he said. They just have to obey. She turned then, and their eyes locked. The air between them shifted again, warmer this time, heavier. Something old stirred in the silence. “I’ve seen you before,” she said softly. Kael’s brow furrowed, “that is not possible.” In dreams, or visions, I’m not sure which. His pulse thudded. “Something connects us, Alpha,” she said. You can feel it too, can’t you? He didn’t answer. He didn’t have to.
