Chapter 10It was rather cold out the following morning, and Phoebe could see her own breath
billowing up in front of her as she dashed across the quad to Dr. Durdham's room for her tutorial.
They were just about to start when Phoebe arrived, and she apologized for being a little late. Dr. Durdham, who was a plump and rather dowdy woman in her early fifties, smiled and invited her to make herself comfortable, and Phoebe duly eased herself down onto the chintz sofa, next to her good friend, Jenny Bond, who acknowledged her with a warm smile.
Phoebe undid her leather satchel and took out her notebook and pen, along with her copy of Great Expectations. There was a log fire burning in the hearth and the walls were lined with old volumes, which were no doubt the source of the rather musty sme
