The ground vibrated with the impatient pawing of Mikaere’s front hooves. Phoenix’s head ached, sending out an arc of pain which encompassed her neck and shoulders. She raised her left hand to her head and her fingers coasted over a painful, raised bump. It joined with the injury from her beach fall to create a crown of pain.
