chapter 1: The Unwanted Proposal
Emma Carter paced nervously outside the towering glass building that loomed over the city like a symbol of everything she despised. Blackstone Enterprises. The empire built by Nicholas Black, the notorious playboy CEO with a reputation for ruthlessness both in the boardroom and outside of it. He was powerful, arrogant, and impossible to avoid. But she had tried. For months. Now, here she was, clutching the envelope that could change her life forever — for better or worse. She hadn’t wanted this. Not any of it. When her father’s business had started crumbling under the weight of debt, Nicholas Black had swooped in like a vulture, offering to save it… with a price. A contract. A marriage contract. Emma’s stomach twisted at the thought. Marry Nicholas Black? The idea was laughable if it weren’t so terrifying. She’d grown up hearing stories about his exploits, seeing his face plastered across gossip columns with one supermodel after another. The tabloids painted him as a heartless womanizer who used people like stepping stones. She didn’t need tabloids to know the truth—she’d seen it firsthand. And now he was asking her to become his wife. No, not asking. Demanding. Her family’s future depended on it. The thought of her father, sitting in his office with his head in his hands, was the only thing that gave her the strength to push open the heavy glass doors and step into the opulent lobby. Her heels clicked against the polished marble floor as she approached the receptionist, who looked at her with a practiced smile. “I’m here to see Mr. Black,” Emma said, her voice steady despite the storm raging inside her. “Of course, Miss Carter,” the receptionist replied, her voice overly polite, as if she knew exactly why Emma was there. “He’s expecting you. Take the elevator to the top floor.” Emma nodded, her heart pounding in her chest as she stepped into the sleek elevator. As the doors slid shut, trapping her inside, she took a deep breath and tried to steady herself. She had to stay calm, no matter what happened. She had to remind herself that this was just business. That was all Nicholas Black cared about. But as the elevator climbed, Emma felt the weight of the situation pressing down on her. This wasn’t just business. It was her life. Her freedom. And she was about to hand it over to a man who treated people like disposable assets. When the doors finally opened, she stepped out into the sleek, minimalist office space of the top floor. Everything was cold and pristine, just like the man who owned it. She was greeted by Nicholas’s assistant, who led her through the open office to a pair of tall mahogany doors. “He’s waiting for you,” the assistant said, giving her a sympathetic smile before disappearing down the hall. Emma stood in front of the doors for a moment, steeling herself for what was to come. Then she pushed them open. Nicholas Black was standing by the window, his back to her, the late afternoon sun casting a golden glow over his sharp, tailored suit. He didn’t turn around immediately, letting the silence stretch out like a challenge. When he finally did turn to face her, his expression was unreadable, his icy blue eyes locking onto hers. Emma was shocked, he is a handsome Demi god “So, you’ve come,” he said, his voice low and commanding. Emma straightened her spine, determined not to show any sign of weakness. “I didn’t have much of a choice, did I?” A slow, dangerous smile spread across Nicholas’s handsome cold face. “There’s always a choice, Emma. You chose to save your father’s company. You chose to come here.” She swallowed hard, hating the way he made it sound so simple. “Let’s get one thing straight. I’m only doing this because you forced my hand. This is just business to you, but it’s my life.” she scoff Nicholas took a step closer, his gaze never leaving hers. “Business is my life, Emma. And soon, you’ll be a part of it. You’ll get used to it.” Her pulse quickened as his presence filled the space between them. There was something unnerving about the way he looked at her like he saw right through her defenses, her walls, everything she used to protect herself. “You don’t know anything about me,” she said, her voice shaking with a mixture of fear and defiance and this has never happened to her before. Nicholas tilted his head slightly, studying her with a predatory intensity. “I know enough. Enough to know that you need me. And that, whether you like it or not, we’re going to make this work.” Emma’s heart pounded in her chest as his words sank in. She had never felt so trapped, so utterly powerless. But she wasn’t going to let him see that. Not yet. Not ever, if she could help it. “Fine,” she said, lifting her chin. “Let’s talk about the contract.” Nicholas smiled again, but there was no warmth in it. “Oh, we will. But first, there’s something else we need to discuss.” Emma frowned. “What?” His eyes darkened, the air between them thickening with tension. “Our marriage won’t be just a contract. It will be real. In every way that matters.” Her breath caught in her throat as the full meaning of his words hit her. Real? In every way? That wasn’t what she had expected. Not at all. “You can’t be serious,” she whispered. Nicholas stepped even closer, his voice a low, dangerous murmur. “Oh, I’m very serious, Emma. You’ll be mine. Completely.” In that moment, Emma realized just how deep she had fallen into his trap. And there was no way out.
