Chapter : New Beginnings
Elliot Laurent adjusted the strap of his carry-on bag as he stepped off the plane in Los Angeles, blinking against the warm California sun. The city smelled of opportunity, ambition, and just a hint of exhaust fumes, but Elliot didn't mind. At nineteen, about to turn twenty in four months, he had finally arrived in the place that could make or break his fledgling career in modeling.
He tugged at his sleek, slightly oversized blazer, one hand brushing a lock of dark hair from his face. Mixed Asian and French, with delicate, almost feminine features, Elliot had always drawn attention without even trying. But he knew beauty alone wasn't enough. Not if he wanted to give his single mother, his grandparents, and his thirteen-year-old sister a life better than the one they had in their small hometown. Control, drive, and determination. These were the tools he wielded alongside his striking appearance.
Elliot had dreamed of becoming an interior designer, but life had other plans. A viral online post showcasing his natural poise and elegance caught the eye of Maya Ruiz, a LA-based talent manager. Their initial interactions had been over i********:, full of banter and bonding across the distance. Elliot, playful and confident even through a screen, had earned himself the nickname "Diva" from Maya, and in return, she had become his "Mami," a moniker he adopted with affectionate mischief.
"Diva, you're finally here," Maya greeted him at the small private terminal, waving energetically. She was petite but commanding, her presence immediately grounding and reassuring. "I was starting to think you'd chicken out."
Elliot grinned, his almond-shaped eyes sparkling with mischief. "Mami, you know me. I don't chicken out. I just like making an entrance." He extended a hand for her to shake, then pulled her into a playful side hug. "And I'm all yours for the next chapter of my life."
Maya laughed. "All mine? You better be worth it, Laurent."
As they drove through the city, Elliot marveled at the sprawling streets and the glimmering high-rises. Maya explained the contract perks in measured tones: a modest stipend, opportunities for small campaigns, and limited exposure to events where bigger-name models dominated the spotlight. "Nothing too glamorous just yet," she warned, "but it's a start. We'll get you noticed if you stay consistent."
Elliot nodded, already calculating how he could optimize every opportunity. "Mami, I'm not here to blend in. I'm here to take control, make my mark, and show them what Diva Laurent can do." His tone was playful but firm, a reflection of the ambition that drove him.
Before they left the terminal, Elliot pulled out his phone and dialed home.
"Hi, Mom! It's me, I just landed safely in LA," he said, his voice brimming with warmth.
On the other end, his mother's voice was a mixture of relief and pride. "Elliot! Oh, sweetheart, I was counting the minutes. How's the city?"
"It's... everything I imagined, Maman. Big, bright, and full of possibilities. Don't worry, I'm taking care of myself," he said with a grin, knowing his mother could imagine him fussing over every detail.
"Make sure you eat, don't overwork yourself, and call me every day," she warned, the familiar tone of gentle authority filling him with comfort.
"I will, Maman. And say hi to Grand-mère and Grand-père for me, and little Amélie."
"I will. We're all so proud of you, Elliot," his mother said softly.
Elliot ended the call and immediately felt a surge of motivation. Every milestone, every shoot, every campaign, it wasn't just about him. It was about lifting his family, honoring their sacrifices, and proving to himself that he could control his destiny.
By the time they reached the apartment Maya had secured for him, Elliot was already imagining how he would decorate the space, neutral tones, clean lines, with splashes of bold art to reflect his personality. "Not too much," he mused aloud. "But it should scream... me."
Maya chuckled. "You'll have time for that. First, we get you settled, then it's all about schedules, training, and shoots. You're going to be busy, Diva."
Elliot leaned back on the plush couch, finally letting himself relax for a moment. "I'm ready, Mami. Let's get to work."
After unpacking a few essentials, Elliot pulled out his phone again to plan his first few days. He made notes on possible gyms nearby, wanting a consistent morning routine, and checked modeling training times Maya had recommended. Even with the hustle ahead, he felt a thrill, this was his world now. A city that demanded excellence, precision, and a constant drive to be seen. And he was ready to claim it.
That night, Elliot lay in his new apartment, the LA skyline glittering outside his window. He thought of his family back home, their unwavering support and quiet sacrifices. He thought of Maya, already a confidante, ally, and cheerleader. And he thought of himself, the young man ready to turn his beauty, intelligence, and ambition into the life he had always wanted.
"Diva, you're going to be unstoppable," he whispered to himself, a smile tugging at his lips.
Tomorrow, the real work would begin.
