Kayden's POV
My warriors and I were on our normal patrol, when we got a sense of danger.
I stopped in my tracks, urging my warriors to get off their horses. The atmosphere became unbreathable all of a sudden as a lump formed in my throat.
What could this uneasy feeling mean?
I picked up a scent in the air, something I couldn't quite comprehend. It was too far for me to identify, but close enough for me to pick up.
I heard a loud feminine voice scream, and my eyes widened.
“Should we follow you?” my warriors inquired.
“No, I think it's best to go on my own”, I refused, as I walked in the direction of the sound.
I came to a halt when I sighted four men, surrounding a girl.
The mere sight of this pricked my skin, forcing me to enclose my fist.
How could men be so cruel? Their ill desire to devour her was clearly written on their faces.
I walked towards them, finally getting a whiff of their scene.
“Werewolves” I growled beneath my breath.
The fact that they were werewolves angered me even more. I could feel my blood boiling, and my desire to save this girl was heightened.
“Leave!” I ordered, towering above the unconscious girl.
There was another scent in the air, a scent I dreaded as well. It was that of a human.
I began to have doubts about helping this girl. Why should I save a human?
They were equally awful as werewolves.
“I believe it's best to mind your business” One of them, I guessed to be their leader, gave me a fierce warning.
I chuckled, shrugging my shoulders.
“I believe so too” I replied, turning around to walk away.
“Such a weakling. "Take her, so we can leave this place” I heard him murmur behind me.
How dare he refer to me as a weakling?
A spark of fire ignited in me, consuming my every thought.
I turned around, grabbing his neck and slamming him against the ground.
“Don't you ever speak to me in that tone. Or I'll chop your head off” I growled, and he dared to kick me in the stomach, causing me to fall on my back.
“I think you should be the one who should be careful”, he warned me, as his three friends surrounded me.
One of them tried to hit me with a stone on the head, but I caught his hand in midair, throwing the stone away.
I punched him in the face, as he fell to the floor.
I could sense that one of them was about to attack me from behind, as I hit his stomach with my elbow.
The other two men observed me from a distance, stared at each other and took three steps back, before they ran away.
“That's the best decision you have made in a very long time”, I smirked.
I took out my gun, and shot their leader in the leg. I didn't shoot him more than once, because I had no intentions of killing him.
“You're leaving me like this?” He yelled at me, finally regaining his consciousness.
“If I wanted to help you, I wouldn't shoot you in the first place, would I?” I smiled, scooping the girl in my arms and walking away with her.
I walked back to my warriors, who looked at me weirdly after they had picked up a human scent from her.
I placed her on my horse, putting her in front of me and guarding her with my hands so that she didn't fall.
“Let's go.” I instructed, signaling for my horse to move.
We had already been moving for over thirty minutes when they paused.
“Lycan, this isn't the way to the mansion,” my chief warrior Oliver complained.
“Yes, we are taking her to a healer." "She needs to get checked, "I told him.
“Don’t you think that a doctor would be better for her?” he asked me.
“It will take us longer to get to the hospital," I replied, and we began moving again.
We stopped at a small hut with an almost dilapidated roof.
I came down from my horse first, before taking her along with me into the hut.
“Why have you brought a human to my hut?” Mira, the healer asked, anger tainted in her voice.
“She was attacked by werewolves,” I replied.
“And you decided to save her?” She lifted an eyebrow at me.
“The werewolves tampered with my ego." "I was left with no other choice, "I responded.
She took one glance at the unconscious lady, taking a deep breath before she signaled for me to place her on the bed.
Mira observed the lady, doing several chants, before she turned to me.
“She is going to be fine. I will squeeze some herbs, and rub on her skin. "She has not incurred any type of internal injury”, she told me.
I don't know why, but I felt a sense of relief. Maybe because I knew that she would heal faster, meaning that she would be out of my life a lot sooner.
“Can I leave her here with you, then return to for her tomorrow?” I asked.
“You want to leave a human with me?” Her eyes widened.
And after her response, I also heard how dangerous those words sounded.
“You'll spend the night here." "You can't just leave her with me”, Mira insisted, and I agreed, nodding my head.
“You can leave now. "Please inform my Beta and Gamma to pick me up very early in the morning”, I informed my chief warrior.
I could tell that he had so many questions to ask, but he just couldn't bring himself to do it. He simply took a bow and left.
Mira’s house was quite small, and I wondered where I would sleep.
“You will have to share a bed with her,” Mira informed me, confirming my worst fears.
I barely shared a bed with any woman, let alone a human.
This was hell for me.
