Chapter 1 Pov Ariana
First, it was the sounds. The sounds and voices coming out of my bedroom across the hall unsettled me. My heart was beating so loudly that I could barely hear anything. Everything sounded muffled in an annoyingly awful way. I felt as though I was underwater from the pressure of my blood pumping through my body. I knew something was wrong. I wanted to leave but I had to find out. Nobody was supposed to be home today. My fiance Jacob wasn't supposed to be back home from his work trip until tomorrow morning. I, on the other hand, was supposed to be at my parents' house today but I had come home early to our apartment in order to prepare a surprise romantic date night at home. We had been so busy for the past few months with work and preparations for the arrival of our baby. I decided to plan a much-needed date night to connect amidst the huge changes in our lives. After all, having a solid and happy relationship was important to me especially now that we were expecting our first baby together. In the future, we would need to be supportive and loving to each other to provide a loving and happy environment for our baby. I bought groceries to cook Jacob's favourite meal and some non-alcoholic beverages for us to share. I settled everything on the kitchen counter and headed towards the bedroom door. I began to run through the different scenarios in my head such as that maybe Jonah was home early to surprise me or my in-laws were visiting without a notice. None sounded plausible, but I had no choice but to see for myself now. Every step was dreadful and heavy. I was curious but also afraid. I opened the door to see the worst-case scenario I was afraid to face, the one I pushed against the back of my head in front of me. The only thing was, it was worse. Much worse than I could have imagined. It was because of her. The woman who was on top of my fiance, the father of my child was my best friend Sarah. Sarah along with Chloe were my best friends. We had been inseparable since high school. We did everything together. How many days have we spent talking about our dreams and hopes, crying and laughing together? I do not know. I loved her and she was a piece of my life I cherished as much as much as I did for Jonah. She was riding Jonah. Her silky brunette curls covered half of her face and some cascaded along her back. Jonah meanwhile, was groaning in pleasure. He gazed at her with lust and greed. It occurred to me that he never looks at me this way anymore. I cannot remember the last time he looked at me like this and made love to me. Time stood still at my revelation. The air was thick and heavy filled with lust and betrayal. It felt like a slow but painful blur of a moment before they noticed me. First, it was Jacob. He looked startled, his eyes widened and he quickly pushed Sarah off himself. She then gasped and turned to see what was causing Jacob to panic. Our eyes met and her face quickly shifted from joyful to fearful. She simply sat on the bed covering her naked body with the sheets, looking cold not saying or moving at all. My eyes darted between the two of them. I did not know who I was more disappointed with or what I should say or do. Jacob retorted "Ari no " he continued "Baby, I can explain. Please calm down and let us talk". He looked at me pleadingly. His voice was sweet yet doubtful. Normally I would melt and give in but this situation was unforgivable. There was no explanation that would suffice so I began to walk away. I could feel his panic as he scrambled to get dressed as quickly as he could to come after me. He was pleading for me to wait " Ari wait, please ". I quickened my pace. I got my keys and walked as quickly as my pregnant stomach allowed me. I was fuming as I walked down the street. The questions were endless and began to race through my head. I wondered to myself why? When did this start? Why would they do this to me? How could they betray me this way? The thoughts in my head overwhelmed me. My head spun, and my vision blurred. I felt weak and overwhelmed physically and emotionally. It was natural for me to have dizzy spells and fainting from time to time especially as I was anemic too. However, the toll of the betrayal was heavy on my heart. I heard Jacob running and calling out to me. I could not see clearly before me. I was frantic. My body moving on its own accord like frantic prey on a run. Fighting a battle it was set to lose.
