Chapter 20 Three hours later, Evan woke up smiling. He stretched lazily, and when memory suddenly kicked in, shot upright. “Oh, shit.” He cradled his head in his hands and moaned. After a minute, he resolutely threw off the comforter and got up. His bedroom window looked out on a portion of the patio. He opened the curtains and peered out cautiously. Nothing. All traces of the family reunion had been whisked away. “Double shit.” Danny’s mother was going to eviscerate him. All her carefully staged non-drama couldn’t have survived this. But maybe it would be enough for her to end this farce, kick him out and find somebody else for Danny to marry. Hard on the heels of that thought, an emphatic mental “no!” resounded in his head. Danny belonged to him. Well, for as long as he could keep him.
