The road took them through a changing landscape. Open farmland gave way to hilly woodlands rising to the mountains. Throughout the six hour drive, Danny refrained from asking Evan about the events of the last two days. This trip was supposed to be an escape—so no wedding preparations, no family drama, no questions. Instead, he set himself to entertaining Evan and making the drive a relaxing experience that got better and better the farther they got away from town.
Near one o’clock they reached the city limits of Bradford, a small community on the river at the base of a mountain.
