"Miss Hayley, is it true that you were caught cheating behind Mr. Dante's back?"
"Miss Hayley, did Mr. Dante really divorce you?"
"Miss Hayley, what do you have to say for yourself?"
"Miss Hayley, are you two-timing?"
"Miss Hayley, why was Dr. Maroon holding you so intimately today?"
"Miss Hayley, speak up!"
"Does this have anything to do with Mr. Dante's Mistress?"
"Is Mr. Dante cheating on you too?"
"Is that why you cheated as well?"
Hayley's eyes rolled backwards, as she stumbled back to avoid the flash lights, the accusations, the questions. She raised her head to look at the reporters but all she could see was hatred in their eyes.
The look of disgust from the reporters, some sneered at her while taking pictures. Hayley held her hands together, trying to stop them from shaking, her hands were shaking so much. She felt her head buzzing with the amount of questions, they were asking.
Cole and Veronica quickly stood in front of Hayley, they tried to hide her from view to prevent the reporters from getting more pictures.
"Veronica, take your sister and go back inside." Cole yelled.
Veronica nodded and turned around, she held onto Hayley and lead her back inside the hospital. The reporters became more aggressive trying to get past Cole and go into the hospital.
The reporters kept asking questions, without giving a break. The Security guards quickly came out to control the situation with the reporter, they stepped forward and created a human block to prevent the reporters from going into the hospital.
Cole disappeared into the hospital, he looked around and found Hayley sitting on the waiting lounge with Veronica beside her. Although Hayley was not crying, he could see her shaking and see the panic in her eyes.
"I'm afraid we can't leave the hospital, just yet." Cole remarked, taking a sit beside his daughters.
Cole felt like he had just aged a few more years, he tried to regulate his breath to keep calm. All his life, he had walked as a business man, working 9am to 6pm to improve the life of his family.
He loved his daughter's and wife with all he had because they were all he had. He had tried all his best to protect them but it seemed like he had failed. All his efforts went down the drain.
Hayley hated to watch her father looking distressed and sad.
Veronica exhaled deeply, the situation looked too challenging and distressing. One minute there were in a room singing happy birthday, having the best time of their life but suddenly, happiness seem to be far away from them.
Hayley stared into space, her body still shaking from the sudden encounter. One moment she was awake and the next she was falling limp to the side.
"Hayley!"
"Hayley!"
Cole and Veronica both yelled at the same time.
..........................
"Are the tickets ready?"
"Yes, immediately she is awake, she'll come over to the airport. You can pick her up from there. Thank you."
That was the first thing Hayley heard when she opened her eyes, the bright white light pierced into her eyes. Her eyes shut involuntarily to avoid the light, she tried to adjust to the light.
She could hear the beeping of the monitors, the faint smell of detergent and medicines lingered in the room. she was wearing the hospital gown, she had previously taken off.
Hayley's throat was dry and poached. Her eyes moved to the bed side table, she tried to reach for the glass of water but she was unable to reach it.
A groan left Hayley's throat, as she tried to sit up which drew Cole's attentive to her. "You are awake."
Hayley gave him a nod and gestured towards the glass of water at the side.
"How are you feeling? Does it hurt anywhere?" Cole asked, stepping closer to check on Hayley's body and make sure she was not going to faint again.
Hayley shook her head to indicate that, she was fine and nothing was wrong with her.
"How long have I been in this bed?" Hayley asked her voice hoarse and rough, taking notice of how light her body has become.
"33 hours, I was worried but the doctors said you were fine." Cole answered, handing over the glass of water to her.
In those two days, he had tried to sort everything out and get the divorce out of the media but it kept reappearing, no matter how hard he tried. The media and Internet was busy taunting his previous daughter, yet he could do nothing.
His Company stocks had been plummeting but he cared less about a company. Hayley was his priority, everything easy could follow after it.
He had made his plans already, send Hayley out of the country and make sure she's safe wherever she is. Then he could worry about the company.
"You are leaving New York." Cole announced, taking a sit on the stool beside the bed.
Hayley's mouth opened, unable to process any words. She sighed and look down at her hands, this seems like a better choice.
............................
Hayley sat beside the window, watching the clouds as she flew away. It's been two days since she woke up, she had woken up to find tickets already gotten for her to leave the country. The dark circle under her eyes, refused to be hide even with the amount concealer she had applied.
Hayley signed the divorce papers a few hours ago and had sent them to Dante. She was back to being a single lady, rather a divorcee but it was better off than being in an unhappy marriage.
Her hand involuntarily moved to her stomach, her baby. Her baby was gone. Her baby could not make it. Tears fell out of her eyes when she remembered her baby but she wiped them off with her hands refusing to act weak.
Another Country.
Another Life.
Somewhere new, where nobody knew her and where nobody would judge her.
Dante did not reply to her messages, neither did he clear the rumors. He was seen with his secretary attending an event when she was in the hospital, he went out with another woman even when they had not been divorced yet.
America. A new chapter.
She was here. Far from home, far from everything that ever caused her pain.
