For a thousand years, the Empire of Ashes has stood as the most powerful vampire empire in existence, ruling through wealth, military dominance, and ancient bloodlines. Across the continent, rival kingdoms battle for power, forming fragile alliances and deadly rivalries that threaten to plunge the supernatural world into chaos.

At the center of it all stands Crown Princess Elena Ashford, heir to the Ashford Empire.

Beautiful, intelligent, and fiercely independent, Elena is far more than a royal figurehead. Trained as a warrior, strategist, and future ruler, she commands armies, influences politics, and refuses to let anyone decide her future for her.

But Elena carries a secret.

She is a Hybrid.

The first of her kind.

No one knows how she exists, only that her blood has become the subject of whispers, fear, and dangerous curiosity across the kingdoms.

As tensions rise between the supernatural empires, a historic alliance is proposed to prevent a devastating war. To secure peace, Elena is bound to an unprecedented political marriage with two rival princes from opposing kingdoms.

Prince Damien Blackthorne is a feared military genius who believes the old system should be torn apart and rebuilt.

Prince Adrian Nightvale is a brilliant political heir determined to preserve order at any cost.

They are enemies.

They are rivals.

And now they are bound to the same future.

What begins as a political arrangement quickly becomes a battle of power, loyalty, ambition, and forbidden attraction. As ancient secrets emerge and enemies gather in the shadows, Elena finds herself at the center of a conflict that could reshape the world forever.

Because in the Empire of Ashes, crowns are not inherited.

They are earned.

And the most dangerous force in the empire may be the woman destined to wear one.

A dark fantasy romance filled with powerful royals, political intrigue, rival princes, family loyalty, ancient secrets, and a heroine determined to rule on her own terms.

THE GATHERING STORM
Elena War has a sound. Most people think it begins with swords. Or battle horns. Or armies marching across borders. They’re wrong. War begins with whispers. I learned that years ago. The first whispers usually come from merchants. Then nobles. Then soldiers. By the time kings start talking about peace, everyone else already knows war is coming. And right now, the entire continent is whispering. I leaned against the railing of the airship and watched the Imperial Capital grow larger in the distance. Eryndor. The heart of the continent. The city where kingdoms gathered when the world started falling apart. The capital sat in the center of a massive valley surrounded by mountains that looked black beneath the morning sky. Tall towers rose above the city walls, their silver spires catching the first light of dawn. Hundreds of airships floated above the skyline, carrying nobles, diplomats, military commanders, and royal families from every kingdom powerful enough to matter. A normal person would probably think it looked beautiful. I thought it looked crowded. “You’ve been staring at the city for twenty minutes.” I didn’t need to turn around. “Cassian, you’ve been counting.” My younger brother stepped beside me. At nineteen, Prince Cassian Ashford somehow managed to look composed even after spending three days aboard an airship. I hated airships. Cassian loved them. I was convinced there was something wrong with him. “The city is impressive,” he said. “The city is preparing for disaster.” “That’s a very Elena thing to say.” I glanced at him. He smiled slightly before returning his attention to the approaching capital. Cassian always smiled like that. Small. Subtle. As if he didn’t want anyone to know he was enjoying himself. I used to think he was quiet because he lacked confidence. Then I grew older and realized he was quiet because everyone else talked too much. Including me. A sudden crash echoed from somewhere behind us. Followed by laughter. Then a familiar voice. “THAT WAS AN ACCIDENT!” I closed my eyes. Cassian sighed. “Three.” “What?” “Three minutes.” I nodded. “That’s longer than usual.” A few seconds later, Princess Lyra Ashford appeared carrying what looked like half a breakfast table. My sister somehow managed to balance two pastries, a cup of tea, a plate of fruit, and a book at the same time. I wasn’t even surprised anymore. “Good morning,” she announced proudly. Cassian looked at the tea dripping down her sleeve. “Is it?” “Yes.” “You’re spilling.” “I know.” Neither of us understood how she survived daily life. At seventeen, Lyra possessed an almost supernatural ability to create chaos without meaning to. Which was impressive considering we lived in a world filled with actual supernatural creatures. She handed me a pastry. I accepted it. Mostly because refusing would only encourage her. Below us, the capital continued growing larger. Ships from dozens of kingdoms filled the skies. Some displayed golden banners. Others silver. Others black. Each flag represented a different royal house. A different army. A different ruler. And potentially a different enemy. The Council hadn’t summoned everyone to Eryndor for a celebration. They had summoned us because the kingdoms were falling apart. Border disputes had become battles. Battles had become wars. Trade routes were collapsing. Entire provinces were changing hands every month. If something wasn’t done soon, the continent would burn. And everyone knew it. Even if nobody wanted to say it aloud. The airship suddenly slowed. Crew members rushed across the deck preparing for arrival. Below us, the enormous walls of Eryndor stretched farther than I could see. The city was larger than some kingdoms. Millions of people lived here. Humans. Vampires. Merchants. Scholars. Soldiers. Nobles. Spies. Probably several assassins. Eryndor attracted all kinds. I straightened slightly as the royal landing platform came into view. Dozens of delegations had already arrived. Soldiers lined the platforms. Council guards stood at attention. Royal banners fluttered in the wind. The entire city felt tense. Like it was holding its breath. A familiar presence appeared beside us. My father. King Alexander Ashford. Even dressed in royal attire, he looked more like a military commander than a king. Years on battlefields had left their mark on him. “Enjoying the view?” he asked. “Not particularly.” He laughed. “I missed that answer.” A moment later my mother joined him. Queen Cassandra Ashford. Where my father carried the weight of battle, my mother carried the weight of diplomacy. She moved through every room with effortless confidence. The kind that made powerful people nervous. Her eyes met mine. “Remember,” she said calmly, “we’re guests here.” That immediately sounded like a warning. “Mother.” “Elena.” I sighed. She smiled. Cassian looked amused. Lyra looked confused. Normal family behavior. The airship finally settled onto the platform. The moment it stopped moving, I heard it. Voices. Hundreds of them. Delegations arriving. Guards shouting orders. Nobles greeting one another. Political alliances being formed and broken before people even entered the city. The summit hadn’t officially started yet. And already the games had begun. I stepped onto the platform first. The wind caught my cloak as I looked across the crowded arrival grounds. Royal families stood everywhere. Kings. Queens. Princes. Princesses. Generals. Council representatives. The most powerful people on the continent gathered in one place. Then something caught my attention. Two figures standing among another delegation. One wore black. The other navy blue. Even from this distance, something about them felt different. Dangerous. Important. The dark-haired one looked bored. The other looked like he was already calculating everyone in sight. For a brief moment, our eyes met across the platform. Then the crowd shifted between us. And the moment disappeared. I didn’t know their names yet. I didn’t know they would change my life. I didn’t know the Council had already decided our futures before any of us arrived. All I knew was that the capital felt different than it should. Too quiet beneath all the noise. Too tense beneath all the smiles. Like the continent was standing on the edge of something irreversible. And somehow, I had a feeling this summit wasn’t going to end the war. It was going to start something much bigger.
