Chapter 2

1612 Words
Ava sat alone on the couch inside the rooftop lounge, trying to get in touch with Cooper. The party was over after running nonstop for two wild hours. Most of UM’s students had left, leaving only Ava and her two best friends behind. Belly and Colleen had gone to the restroom, but Ava stayed back, glued to her phone screen as she kept calling him. "Why the f**k is he not picking up?!" she snapped, nearly smashing her phone against the table—though she could afford a thousand replacements if she wanted to. The janitors cleaning up the mess glanced in her direction, but none dared say a word. Ava might not be arrogant or mean, but she hated it when people pried into her life without permission. “He’s still not picking up?” Belly and Colleen asked as they returned, each dropping down beside her on the couch, sandwiching her in the middle. “No. I’ve called him like a hundred times, and he’s still ignoring me. What if he got into an accident?” Ava asked, her voice laced with growing panic. “That’s impossible, Ava Girl. We’re talking about Cooper Alvarez. His family’s almost as rich as yours. If something happened to him, the entire Miami media would’ve exploded by now,” Colleen reassured. “That’s right, Party Queen. Cooper’s just as popular as you. If anything bad had happened to your boyfriend, the whole city would be in chaos,” Belly added. Ava sighed and ran her hand through her hair. “Then what the hell is going on? Cooper has never acted like this before. He’s always quick to answer me. Always. And now... nothing. For hours.” “Why stress so much when you know where he lives?” Colleen said. “You should just go to his place and demand answers. You’re good at giving him an earful.” Ava nodded. “Yeah. I’m going. If I find out he’s been ghosting me on purpose, I swear, I’ll smash a damn bottle on his head.” “I’d love to see that!” Belly purred, standing to twerk dramatically. They burst into laughter. Shaking her big ass was the only thing Belly was known for. She wasn’t the smartest, but she was UM’s top swimmer and proud of it. Colleen, on the other hand, was the brainiac. A brilliant medical student and the brightest among them. The three had been inseparable since elementary school. “See you girls in school tomorrow. Somebody’s about to get smashed,” Ava declared, rising from the couch. “Don’t forget to tell us the juicy details after you’re done giving Cooper hell,” Colleen teased, and Belly grinned wickedly. “Get your own boyfriends instead of waiting for naughty gossip,” Ava muttered with a scoff and made her way out. Her phone buzzed just then. She glanced at it—and froze. Her eyes widened in shock. Her chest tightened. Tears welled up as she stared at the screen, watching her boyfriend having s*x with a girl she didn’t even recognize. The girl was on top of him, riding him mercilessly while Cooper moaned shamelessly. “What the actual f**k!” she screamed, dropping her phone. It crashed to the ground, cracking on impact. Belly and Colleen rushed to her. Without a word, Colleen picked up the phone and stared at the screen, her face going pale. “That’s him,” she muttered. “That’s Cooper.” “Is this photoshopped?” Belly asked, panicking. “I know you’re not the brightest, but don’t make it so obvious. That video is real!” Colleen snapped. “Ava, are you okay?” they both asked, their faces twisted in concern. “Do I look okay?! I just saw my boyfriend screwing another woman!” Ava shouted, her voice breaking. “Cooper is so freaking dead for doing this to me!” she growled and stormed out of the lounge. Colleen gasped. “We need to follow her, Belly. We can’t let what happened four years ago repeat itself!” Belly nodded, her face paling. They both ran after Ava, but by the time they got outside, she was already speeding off in her Bugatti. “s**t!” they cursed at the same time and jumped into their cars to follow her. Ava screeched through the streets, ignoring every traffic rule, until she arrived at Cooper’s house—a manor just like her family’s. “Ava!” the butler exclaimed, clearly surprised but pleased. “Where’s that cheating bastard?!” Ava demanded at the top of her lungs, startling the woman. “Is something wrong—?” “Tell me where he is or hell’s going to break loose!” Ava barked, her voice trembling with rage and tears. “He’s in the game room…” Ava didn’t wait for her to finish. She stormed down the hall, her heavy chain boots thudding loudly with each step. She kicked the door open—and found Cooper playing a video game with his headphones on. She marched up to him and yanked the headset off his ears, and hit him so hard on the head. “What the hell—” he began, but stopped when he saw her. “Ava?” “How could you do that to me?!” she screamed. “Do what?” he asked, confused. “Don’t dare lie to me! I saw you. I saw you with that girl. I was here worried sick, calling you over and over, and you—you were busy getting f****d!” she cried, her voice cracking. Cooper's face fell. “Wait… how did you know?” He wasn’t denying it. Ava’s heart shattered. The tears came rushing out. “How did I know? So the video is true. You were with another girl while I was worried sick about you? How could you have done this to me, Cooper!” she choked, pushing him with all her strength. He stumbled slightly but didn’t fall. “It wasn’t on purpose, Ava! I went to this bar with Lex, and that girl came on to me—” “So you slept with her?! That’s your excuse?! That you couldn’t control yourself? Are you serious right now?!” “Who sent you that video?” he asked quietly. “I don’t know and I don’t care! You and I are over, Cooper!” “You can’t just break up with me over this. It wasn’t planned! I didn't intend to cheat on you, Ava” “That’s exactly why I’m breaking up with you. The fact that you couldn’t resist another woman is why we’re done. It’s over!” She ripped off the couple’s necklace and threw it at him. “You’ll come back. You always do. This is not the first time you'll break up with me and come running back to me” Cooper said confidently. “Not this time. I swear I’ll make sure of it!” she hissed and stormed out of the game room. “Ava, what happened....?” “None of your business!” she snapped at the butler as she exited the house. Colleen and Belly had just gotten out of their cars when they saw her. “Ava!” they ran to her. “Was it photoshopped?” Belly asked again. “For God’s sake, Belly! How many times would I have to correct you that the video isn't photoshopped. Gosh!” Colleen frowned. Ava didn’t say a word. She looked back—Cooper wasn’t coming after her. Not even trying, and that ignited more pain in her heart. She screamed heartbreakingly—Her scream tore through the air, so loud it nearly shattered their eardrums. She had broken up with him—but she was the one hurting most. She had loved him since they were kids. And he destroyed that love, not even trying to apologize to her. “Don’t cry, Ava. He doesn’t deserve your tears,” Colleen whispered, patting her back. Ava pushed her hand off. “How do I make Cooper regret this? Deeply! Madly! Regret everything!” “You want to make him jealous?” Colleen asked. “I’m Ava Morales. No one breaks my heart and walks away. He’s going to beg for my forgiveness. I’ll make sure he bleeds for it,” Ava vowed. “But how? You’ve only ever loved him,” Colleen said. “I know what you should do!” Belly suddenly said. “Hire a guy to act as your new boyfriend. That’ll drive Cooper insane!” “And where’s she supposed to find a guy like that?” Colleen asked. “I know where" Belly smiled. "There’s a midnight biker race happening tonight. We should crash it.” “Are you serious? You want her to get involved with a biker?” Colleen gasped. “What’s wrong with that? At least I’m giving her something. You’ve done nothing but argue!” Belly snapped. “Where is this race happening?” Ava asked, cutting them off. “You’re actually considering this? Do you know the kind of people bikers are?” Colleen questioned. “Don’t lecture me. I don’t care who he is. If he can help me make Cooper beg, then so be it.” Ava firmly said, her eyes returning to Belly's gaze. "Where and when is this midnight biker race happening?" she asked. Belly grinned and checked her phone. “It starts at 12 a.m. It’s almost midnight now—we still have time.” “I’m in,” Ava said without a blink.
