The Wedding Disaster
The sharp c***k of breaking glass silenced the ballroom. Alyssa Monroe froze. The towering champagne fountain she had spent three hours supervising collapsed in slow motion, crystal glasses crashing onto the polished marble floor as golden champagne splashed across white tablecloths and expensive gowns. Gasps echoed through the grand ballroom. “No… no, no, no…” Alyssa whispered, her heart dropping into her stomach. This couldn’t be happening. Not today. Not at the Grand Royal Hotel. Not at the wedding of social media superstar Vanessa Sinclair and tech millionaire Ethan Lawson—the biggest event her struggling company had ever been trusted to handle. “Alyssa!” Emma Carter, her assistant and best friend, ran toward her, her face drained of color. “The bride is coming!” Panic shot through Alyssa. “Get housekeeping. Move the guests away. We can still fix this.” Before anyone could move— “What is the meaning of this?” Vanessa Sinclair’s voice sliced through the room. Dressed in a breathtaking custom-made wedding gown worth more than Alyssa had earned in the past five years, Vanessa stepped onto the ballroom floor, surrounded by photographers and bridesmaids. Her eyes landed on the shattered glass. Her face twisted with fury. “My wedding…” she whispered. Then she looked directly at Alyssa. “You ruined my wedding.” “No, Ms. Sinclair, it was an accident. The stand—” “Don’t.” Vanessa raised a perfectly manicured hand. “I paid your company millions to give me perfection.” She pointed at the soaked decorations. “And this is what you call perfection?” Every guest turned to stare. Alyssa could feel hundreds of eyes burning into her. She forced herself to remain calm. “We can replace the champagne tower in thirty minutes.” “Thirty minutes?” Vanessa laughed coldly. “My guests are already here.” Cameras began recording. Someone started livestreaming. Emma leaned toward Alyssa. “This is going online.” Alyssa’s blood ran cold. If this went viral… Her company was finished. She swallowed hard. “I’m truly sorry, Ms. Sinclair.” “You should be.” Vanessa stepped closer until they were only inches apart. Then, without warning— SLAP! The sound echoed through the ballroom. Alyssa staggered sideways. Her cheek burned. For a moment, the room was silent. Then the whispers began. “Did you see that?” “She deserved it.” “I heard her company is already going bankrupt.” “No wonder.” Alyssa’s eyes filled with tears, but she refused to let them fall. Not here. Not in front of everyone. She straightened her shoulders. “I understand you’re upset.” Vanessa laughed. “Upset?” She snatched a folder from the nearby table. “This is your contract.” She ripped it in half. Then into quarters. Then let the pieces flutter onto the broken glass. “You’re fired.” Emma gasped. “Alyssa…” Vanessa folded her arms. “And I’ll make sure no one in this city ever hires you again.” A photographer’s flash exploded. Another. Another. The humiliation was complete. Alyssa looked around the ballroom. Not a single person came to her defense. Not one. She bent down slowly, gathering the torn pieces of the contract from the floor. Her hands trembled. She had spent eight years building Monroe Weddings. Eight years. And in less than five minutes… Everything was gone. Without another word, she turned and walked toward the exit. She barely made it outside before the tears came. Rain had started falling. Within seconds, she was soaked. She leaned against a stone pillar outside the hotel, covering her face as months of exhaustion, fear, and heartbreak crashed over her. “I’m sorry, Mom,” she whispered. “I tried.” She thought about the overdue rent. The unpaid staff. The loans. The business she’d promised her late mother she would never give up on. She had failed. “Excuse me.” A calm male voice interrupted her thoughts. She quickly wiped her tears and looked up. A tall man stood beside her holding a black umbrella. He wore a simple dark coat. No expensive watch. No bodyguards. No designer logo. Just kind eyes. “You’ll catch a cold,” he said gently. “I’m fine.” “You don’t look fine.” She let out a bitter laugh. “You saw that?” “I saw enough.” Embarrassment flooded her face. “I’d rather forget it.” He nodded. “I understand.” For a moment, neither of them spoke. Rain hammered against the umbrella. Finally, he took off his suit jacket and held it toward her. “You need this more than I do.” “I can’t take your jacket.” “You can.” She hesitated before accepting it. It was warm. Still carrying his scent. “Thank you.” He smiled. “It wasn’t your fault.” She stared at him. Everyone inside had blamed her. This stranger… …was the first person to say otherwise. “How do you know?” “Because people don’t look that devastated when they ruin something on purpose.” For the first time that day… She smiled. It was small. Fragile. But real. A black luxury car suddenly pulled up at the hotel’s entrance. Several men in suits rushed toward it. One of them glanced in the stranger’s direction. Their eyes met. Something unspoken passed between them. The stranger quietly stepped back. “I should go.” “Wait.” She looked at him. “I never got your name.” He smiled. “It’s George.” “George…?” He hesitated for the briefest second. Then simply said, “Just George.” Before she could ask anything else, he disappeared into the rain. Alyssa watched him leave, still clutching his jacket. Behind her, the hotel doors burst open. Emma ran outside, breathless. “Alyssa!” She turned. Emma grabbed both of her shoulders. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you!” “What happened?” Emma’s eyes were wide with disbelief. “You won’t believe this…” She held up her ringing phone. “The Kingston Group just called.” Alyssa frowned. “What do they want?” Emma swallowed. “They want you to plan billionaire George Kingston’s wedding.” #vote#
