Chapter 17

Sarah I felt the intense throbbing coming from my head as I opened my eyes. I was no longer blindfolded by the bag. My hands and feet were bound, leaving no room to maneuver. The room was dark, only a small piece of sunshine cams from a small corner window. It appeared to be a basement or a warehouse or some sort. The room housed a dirty concrete floor and stone walls. The silence was a factor that I was alone. I could hear footsteps above me but no one entered the room. I wanted to cry out for someone to help me but decided against it. I wanted to remain as quiet as possible so they would think I was still knocked out. The last thing I remembered was leaving the house and stopping at the end of the block. But what was I doing there in the first place? My mind drew a fuzzy picture, I thought harder and the images became clear. I was running from Xavier. He betrayed me and chose Jessica over me. They had been kissing, I had become so upset that I ran and got myself kidnapped. I let out a small whimper, I had done this to myself. I allowed myself to have feelings for him and he really was playing me, taking me as a naive fool. Silent tears cascaded down my cheeks, I was in love with him. Even though, I did not tell him completely as such. I was and right now even though he cheated, I still loved him. I still wanted to trust him. My heart and my head were not connecting with one another. I wanted to bury my face in my hands but they were behind my back. Instead, I buried my face in my kneecaps, trying to wipe off the excess tears from my face. I had to be strong, no matter how broken I was inside. The footsteps from above sounded to be getting closer. I straightened my back and faced forward. A hard look in my eyes, as the door opened and someone came down the wooden creaky steps. The click of heels indicated it was a woman but it was too dark to see her face. “Hello sweetheart, Mommy’s been looking all over for you.” The voice so familiar, I felt sick to my stomach at the very sound. I knew who it was, even without the shed of light. I swallowed thickly, “Mother, have you resorted to such levels, that you would kidnap me.” I spit out. Her steps increase until she is standing right in front of me. My mouth drops at her appearance, she is thin, her hair is sleek but most of all she is wearing a designer business suit. My mind wanders at how she could afford such things when growing up she rarely ever got dressed up or was pencil thin. “Mother… or should I say, Betty, what has happened to you! Why are you dressed like a wannabe real estate agent.” I snicker. Her eyes turn murderous as she grabs my hair making my neck strain to meet her eyes. She bends down and I get a wave of her foul breath and a large amount of spittle as she yells in my face. “It is mother to you, as much as I hate that fact as it is. I will be called the proper term. Now I have someone here to see you, in fact, I think you’ve met him before. He is going to be a part of your life for a long time.” She says, sadistically. I spit in her face, wiping it away she slaps me hard enough that I hit the ground. My face throbs as she bends down once more, wagging a finger in my voice and making tsking noises. I shoot her a hard glare as she roughly pats my cheek. She gets up and heads to the stairs, proceeding to walk up to them. In her stead, I hear another set of footsteps, heavier obviously a man. I use a mixture of my shoulder and elbows to push myself into a sitting position. “Tristan, what are you doing here? No wait let me guess…your in on this little scheme.” I say, bitterness laced in my voice. “Yes, you see I don’t give a flying f**k about you, however, my parents know each other and they decided to betroth us. I’d rather be married to a pole than you.” He answers, examining his fingernails as he talks. “So your little nice boy routine was just that- an act. If you're so adamant about not getting married to me, then why don’t you just tell your parents no and move on.” I answered, a matter of factly. “I laugh at your naivety, you think it is so simple for that to be done. My parents today are worth enough to last me a lifetime and that is way more than I would ever achieve by working at that measly company your boy toy owns. But there’s always a catch, always… in order for me to get my hands on the fortune, I have to marry you. I guess when our parents were younger, they made an agreement if my parents had a son and your parents had a daughter we would be wed, vice versa.” He spits out. “You could still walk away, from here your parents and just be your own man. Work for yourself and be successful on your own.” I attempt to persuade. My ploy to tug at his heartstrings fails once I feel the sharp kick to my leg. I hunch over in pain, my eyes pricking once more with tears. “Don’t expect me to change my mind or have mercy on you. I want my parent's money and I will get it. I don’t care if I have to lock you away until the day you die. Hmm… that sounds like a good idea. Locked and caged in the basement of my home forever like an animal. Maybe I’ll even have my way with you when I get bored of my mistress.” He says, smiling all while caressing my cheek. “What you speak of is pure slavery. How can one man be so evil and defiled by greed and lust.” I rasp out, my throat cracking with the lack fluids. “Little b***h, I don’t care just shut up, be quiet and don’t mess things up when my parents get here to inspect you. You’d better behave if you want to get sympathy out of me or perhaps some water. You sound a bit parched. He laughs and starts walking away, shutting the door behind him. Leaving me alone once more.
