"Nice to see you join us, Miss Winters." Mrs. Sharron announced, eyeing me like I was an annoying bug she wanted to swat. "I'm sorry, I was stuck in traffic." I replied, which was half true because when you wake up late and you're rushing, you stop in every single red light there are in the entire neighborhood. She observed me suspiciously and I kept my eyes glued to the grey tiled floor of our class, trying to control the embarrassment. "Oh the good old excuse." She replied sneering at me. "Come in Miss Winters, I would not appreciate you joining us late next time." She said turning around to face the whiteboard.
I spotted an empty seat beside Dianna, my only best friend in the campus, and quickly plopped down beside her. "Thanks for saving a seat." I thanked, opening my book. "Anytime" She winked, her pretty blue eyes and smiled at me. Dianna was beautiful, she had long shiny golden locks, icy blue eyes, pretty petal lips, perfect complexion and a supermodel figure. She was basically the diva in this college, all boys drooled for her however, she had high standards these boys barely stood a chance to steal more than a kiss. Her usual attitude was snobby, not only did she have high standards for boys, she had high standards for everything. But inside, when I started knowing her, I realized Dianna had an amazing personality, she was kind, thoughtful and helpful. All the attitude was just a front she would put on. She was like a big sister to me, always protective of me. I've always wondered why she was friends with me, she would always say that I was different and 'cooler' to hang out with than the 'wannabes and perverts' over here. She said I was my own person and she liked that about me. I never really gave a thought about it so I shrugged it off. I was always the plain one, not giving a s**t about my appearance.
The tedious day went on tortuously slow, finally when the bell rang, I got out looking for Dianna. "Oi, Ki! You going somewhere?" a voice bellowed behind me. I closed my eyes in irritation and turned around to find Justin coming over to me. I hated, I LOATHED the nickname 'Ki' but he never seemed to get that piece of information in his head. Justin was cute, dark hair, dimples, jock, popular, but I was never into him. He was what he was outside, there was nothing interesting in him. "I'm actually going out with Di" I smiled politely, trying to walk away.
"Are you sure you can't come with me and maybe grab some dinner and a movie?" he said, with tiresome hope in his blue eyes. He had been trying to convince me to go out with him for ages, he just never got the message that I didn't want to. I had flat out told him no, but he kept insisting. Right when I opened my mouth to answer, Dianna piped in "Never getting it are ya, Dustin?" Dustin was his nickname that she had put for him because she thought his brains were dusty.
"Just pushing my luck, see you around girls." he walked away, winking at me. I shuddered wondering for the hundredth time exactly what it was he saw in me. Dianna laughed at the exchange "Let's go to that club tonight, remember the one we went last time?" She exclaimed a bit too excitedly. "No way, I'm not going I have work to do."
"Oh come on, live a little please?" she batted her long lashes at me. "That doesn't work on me Di, I'm not a dude and no I want to have a quiet peaceful night, you can go if you want." I said. Dianna always wanted to go to clubs to drink and get laid to ease stress, it wasn't just the messing around, it was her stress reliever. "Fine then let's go to the bar in Kev street. It's more quiet, please, I really need a drink, Mr. Simon grilled us on Eco." She sighed. I gave in, "Okay fine, we can go to a bar." She squealed happily, "You can bring your book with you and I promise I'll make it up to you." She said hugging me.
As the evening rolled by, I was buttoning my brown leather jacket, when the doorbell rang, I opened the door, knowing it was Dianna. "Hey- oh wait! What the hell are you wearing?" She exclaimed her eyes as big as saucers. I rolled my eyes, Dianna was a fashion queen, designer clothes were her ritual, and I couldn't care any lesser about things like clothing. "Look I know you won't listen to me can you at least wear a top of my choosing?" she said. She looked gorgeous as usual, wearing a black jacket over a low cut white blouse and a short voluminous black skirt. Her blonde hair straightened and smoothed down. We went over to my closet and she found a red top for me that she herself had given me for my birthday. It was low cut too but it had cloth strips covering most of my cleavage. I wore black pants and finished it off with a short black jacket. Dianna fixed my hair, ruffling them in a certain way that she was satisfied with. "There, done, you look perfect. Okay hon, let's do this!" she said in a sing song voice and I giggled at her enthusiasm. We drove out on her car to the bar, it was called 'Casabianca' after the poem by an English poet. The bar was pretty quiet, electronic music blasting out of the speakers, a few people were dancing, overall the environment was pretty tame.
Dianna and I got cosmos as we sat on the bar stools watching people dance and mess around. "That boy over there, on my left, he is staring at me right?" She asked motioning left with her eyes. I looked to the left and indeed, there was a guy across her staring at her.
"Yeah, he's totally staring at you." I replied, smirking.
"Is he cute?"
"I think he's your type, he's really muscular, blonde and blue eye thing going on. " I smiled.
"Should I casually approach him?"
"Go ahead."
She smiled, getting up and walked over to him. She was always so confident with boys, I admired that quality in her, because I sucked in that department. I watched as she striked up a conversation with him and she seemed pretty into him. Knowing that she will be in the arms of the object of her desire for the rest of the night, I looked around, finding things to amuse myself with.
It was a small bar, people talking, Overworked husbands chugging down beers after a long day at work, some teenagers making out, dancing. I was about to bring out my book to read and kill some time but abruptly I spotted a guy, sitting 3 stools away from me, people-watching like I was. He had dark brown hair which were messy, a handsome face, he was wearing a brown jacket and a white plain T shirt underneath. He wasn't too muscular and bulky, he seemed to have a good figure. His eyes suddenly flashed at me like he knew I was studying him. He stared at me, eyes trailing from my head to toe with an unreadable expression, before he looked back to his drink, away from me. His demeanor intrigued me, I asked the bartender for another cosmo, before making my way to the handsome stranger, I just knew there was something fascinating about him.
Oh how right I was...
