An Invitation
Faelyn stopped on her step when she arrived in front of a school with a sign that can be read as ‘Azure High School’. She takes a deep breath as she tightened her grip on the backpack on her back. The first day of the second year of high school, who doesn't feel nervous about that? Everything will be new. Even though it wasn't as new as when she first set her foot in Azure High, it is still a little bit scary.
Fae remembers some stories about her friend who was bullied in the second grade of high school, even though everything was fine when her friend was in the first grade. Everyone has their own peer group. When it comes to getting to know each other, that's the scariest thing. Imagining the past combined with her friend's story is making Fae shake her head and shrug her shoulders, banish the worries and traumas of the past from her mind.
The little girl with short brown hair stepped her foot through the school gate. Azure High School, Fae wouldn't describe it too much, because in reality Azure was just a very ordinary educational location. Not a top school, but arguably quite good in academic and non-academic achievements. Has two program options : science and social. Science class is usually called class A and social class is usually called class S.
Like other schools that trying to produce as many graduates as possible, Azure has 3 classes in each program per batch, a total of 18 classes in 3 batches. The class is lined up around a green park. The first year is on the left side, the second year is on the middle side, and the senior year is on the right side.
Behind the first year classes there are locations for science research areas such as green house, science laboratories, and animal cages. Behind the second year classes, there is a gymnasium, swimming pool, green field for outdoor sports activities, rooms for student activities, and a cafeteria. Behind the gymnasium, there is the Azure Library Center as the rearmost location in Azure High. Finally, all kinds of administration rooms, computer rooms, and teachers' room are behind the senior year classes.
Simple enough for a high school, but still quite tiring to walk to certain places, such as cafeteria and library. Therefore, Fae chooses to read and search for articles on her cell phone. She could count the number of times she visited the Azure Library Center. The cafeteria… She also rarely visited it and doesn't really want to get too close to it -because of some personal reasons-.
A bustling crowd greeted her few steps after entering the school grounds. The bulletin board installed in front of the school garden contains a list of classes. Faelyn approached the crowd to find her name. But it is not easy, even very difficult with a height of 155 cm and a small body. Fae seemed to be forced to hold her breath while being crushed by the crowd.
When Fae could see the row of names on the board, she thought to herself repeating her own name over and over again. Faelyn Lorenza, Faelyn Lorenza, Faelyn Lorenza, which class am I in?
Just a few seconds, Faelyn was pushed back and forth by the sea of people. She struggled until someone grabbed her arm and pulled her out away from the crowd. A man with curly hair and medium height about 175 cm. Fae looked up and the man let go of her hand, “Faelyn Lorenza, right?”
Fae nodded.
The man held out his cell phone which Fae immediately accepted. "We're in the same class." The man said at the same time as Fae who found her name in one of the classes. Class 2A. "Thank you." The man nod as a response to Fae's words, take his cellphone back from Faelyn's grasp, and immediately walk away from the girl.
Faelyn follows the man. Well, it wouldn't be wrong if Fae thinks the guy is going to their class right?
When crossing the garden, Fae could see the first batch in orientation. The student body leader who is giving advice looks big, powerful, and authoritative. Fae’s sure his name is Diego Fernandez, because she chose Diego in last year's election. On the other side of the field, in the senior year corridor, Fae could hear whispers of astonishment accompanied by an index finger pointing at the same person.
A girl who seems to be soon, or already is, the belle of the school. Very beautiful with back brown hair, slim body, and perfect proportions. From her face, it appears that she is a cheerful girl with a very positive aura. Round shining eyes, a small and sharp nose, and a sweet smile showing white teeth, coupled with a face that becomes red and sweaty because of the heat.
Fae stop looking at the girl and the group of children who is being oriented when she arrived in front of her class. Before entering the classroom, someone embraces her from behind. "Tanny! You're in this class too?" Tanny-Tania, Fae's close friend in her first year of high school nodded. "Too bad that Livy and Christine are in another class." Fae nodded and slightly regretted that in her heart. The two are also close to Tanny and herself in the first year.
The school bell rings, like a sign, all students go to their respective classes -except the first class who is on the orientation and the student body who is hazed them. Fae chooses to sit in the front-right corner of the room, and Tania was behind her. Class starts with the homeroom session. One by one the names of the student is being called, until it is the turn of the man with curly hair who had been helping him. His voice is quite low when he answered the teacher's call to his name, Jacky Neythan. Fae looked in the direction of the voice, as Tania patted her on the back “Do you like him?”
Fae shook her head, "I don't even know him."
Tania giggled “I even got along with Tim with just one greeting.”
Fae shrugged. Tania is clearly very easy to interact with whoever she wants and whenever she wants. She’s easy to start and end a relationship with someone. A player.
After checking attendance, the biology teacher, also the homeroom teacher who wants to be called Mr. Klevinstone distributed books, materials, and sheets that could be kept in their lockers, at the back of the classroom. One thing that is unique from Azure High is a learning system without moving classes. All students will be together in each subject for two semesters -a year-, only after that there will be a reshuffle for the next year.
Books, sheets, and everything that come with it is piled up and almost blocked Fae's sight when Mr. Klevinstone said, “This is the last one. Invitation letter addressed to Mr. Neythan and Ms. Lorenza. Please come and take it.”
Fae furrowed her brows in confusion. Ignoring Tania's overly enthusiastic pats on the back, Fae walk to the front of the class together with the man named Jacky Neythan earlier. They are standing side by side and each receiving an envelope, signing the receipt sheet after that.
"Are you lying to me? You have a relationship with Neythan, right? Just tell me! Why do you hide it from me?” Once again Fae ignored Tania's curious whispers, choosing to sit in his chair when Mr. Klevinstone ends the homeroom session. After the homeroom teacher left the class, loud conversations begin to form -like every school class in general-. Fae left the invitation letter on the table and walk to the back of the classroom to puts down all her book.
When she is about to open the locker, once again someone helps her. Of course it’s Jacky Neythan. The man turned the lock and opened the locker so that Fae only has to put her book inside. "Thanks, again." This time Fae stetched out her hand, “Faelyn Lorenza, you can call me Fae.”
Instead of taking her hand -a reaction Fae expected-, the man nods once again and said, “Just call me Jack.” Without returning Fae's outstretched hand, Jacky Neythan walks away and sits back down in the back-left corner.
Fae huffed in annoyance and moves back to her chair, sitting down with her arms crossed over the table. Tania shifted her chair and moves to front of Fae, lowered her head and rested her chin on Fae’s table, "Looks like you need more effort to get him, my friend."
"I DON’T-"
Most of the class looked at her when they heard Fae's scream. The girl then cleared her throat and spoke again with a muffled shriek, "I don't know him, nor do I want to approach him."
"You're upset."
Fae just nodded in response to Tania's statement. "Speaking of Neythan, what invitation letter did you and him receive earlier?" Fae glanced at the letter on her desk. There is only the Azure High School title on the envelope. Nothing else even though Fae has tried to see every part of the letter.
"I don’t know." Tania responded to Fae's shake, "Then you have to open it."
Fae opened the envelope and took out a sheet of paper inside. Neatly folded like an invitation letter in general. The girl smoothed her bangs before unfolding the letter. Tania brought her head closer to Fae so she coold join in reading the contents of the letter.
