“I was always with you Aril, even in your former life. I was in a dormant state, for some reason I couldn't come forward or communicate with you. I was shackled by some unexplainable power. I saw everything from afar helplessly” She howled and whined in pain and sadness. I could feel everything she felt, It made me sad too. “But you Aril, your rebirth freed me and made me more powerful” She added. Was this a conspiracy for me to never have my wolf? Who could have done this? “We will have to get to the bottom of this, but first we have to find out where we are first and go home” She said, eager to go home. I nodded and continued to walk forward with my nose perked up, ready to smell anything familiar. Almost immediately, a delicious smell tickled my nose. A deer was nearby, drinking from the stream. My mouth watered and as if on cue, my stomach growled in response. “Our first hunt. May I?” She asked as she came forward slowly. “Yes please” I said, sat back and gave her control. I shifted to my wolf form in seconds, it wasn't painful, just a little stiff. The wolves in the park always said it got better with time. I could only see, everything else was in her control. She deserved it, she was dormant for too long. I can't imagine being in the dark, unable to communicate or move for 21 years. She walked lightly on the grass with a focused gaze. The deer soon came into sight, drinking innocently from the stream. She lowered our body to the ground and continued to prowl like a predator. When she was close enough, she growled and pranced on the deer. It was already too late for it as our claws were hooked on its behind. It struggled relentlessly to break free but couldn't escape Prisca’s firm hold. She went for its neck next and bit down hard on it till the crunching of bones could be heard. Blood sputtered from the bites into our nose and fur but we cared not. She tore through its body and tore out flesh with those teeth, as she ate, I finally got a taste of raw meat. It was delicious. The deer eventually breathed his last and Prisca ate to her fill from its flesh happily. I laid back as she ate, letting her enjoy what she missed for so many years. She finally stopped when she was too stuffed to move, she crawled heavily into the stream to rinse off the blood before walking a bit to a small cliff we had seen earlier. It was getting dark as the red sun hung in the sky with its warm rays bathing the field of grass. As if on cue, our eyes was starting to drop tiredly. It had been a long day for both of us and it was time to let sleep take us away. We walked forward and sprawled tiredly on the grass under the sun. Sleep came quickly and we let it sweep us away to dreamland. *** The rustling of bushes woke me up, Prisca was already awake as she stood protectively. I sniffed the air and a familiar scent wafted through my nose. Their scent which was faint before was now prominent that it filled the forest. Humans. “We need to shift back, they are humans” I said calmly as I came forward. “And what if they are here to harm us?” She asked warily and reluctantly. “That's why you are on guard,Prisca. They are too slow to be able to harm us” I assured her as I shifted back to my human form. I couldn't blame her, we have been through so much that we couldn't trust anyone or anything again. Everybody was a suspect. Just as we shifted back, a young man walked out of the bushes and our eyes met. “Oh my God, I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to walk in just like that... I... I didn't know you were naked” He stammered and explained as he quickly turned around with his back to us. That was when I remembered that I was naked, a little blush crept up my cheeks as I felt embarrassed. Nakedness wasn't new in the pack, I have seen a lot of wolves shift naked in front of me but I have never been naked like them because I never had a reason to. “Please put on some clothes, please lady” He added with his back still turned. “I don't have any” I said as I looked down at my perky breasts and bushy privates suddenly feeling self conscious. Prisca was still on guard, prowling at the back of my mind. “oh my... uhumm... take this” He stammered again and took off his long coat. He walked backwards slowly with his arm stretched to the back and stopped when I took the coat from him. I put it on, it was a gray fur coat that covered me up to my knees. A crown logo was created on the right breast side of the coat, it looked familiar. Instead of talking, I walked and came in front of him for him to know that I had it on. “Much better... Hi, I'm Dennis” He smiled with relief and offered his hand. Instead of shaking his hand, I took a good look at him instead. He was of average height; same height with me, with blond hair, crooked nose, full lips and brown eyes, all seated on his oval shaped face. He looked more handsome than the average human I saw sometimes when I went into the human towns. “Aril” I blurted out, still refusing to shake his hands as I continued to stare at him curiously. I didn't want to tell people my real name and Aril just came out like that. He nodded as he withdrew his hand, “You look familiar, have I seen you before?” He asked as he studied my face. “I don't think so” I said casually as I quickly changed the topic, “So where are we?” I asked, looking around once more. It was a little bit darker now, the sun was almost gone and the moon was waiting to take over. He looked at me a little more than a second before replying “In Bullard town, Houston” I knew about Bullard but I had never been there. It was the biggest town in Houston, it was where the royal family of Houston resided. The nightlight pack lived on the outskirts of a smaller town, Laker, which was two towns over. Blood moon pack was a little farther into the forest. I breathed in relief, I was happy to know we were not too far away. “How did you get here? Where do you live? It isn't safe here at night yuuno” He said, his curious eyes never leaving me. “I wandered and got lost, I'm from Laker town” I answered smoothly like a seasoned liar. Although it wasn't entirely a lie. He opened his mouth to speak but shut it, then said “Well, Laker is too far to travel at this time of the day... I could accommodate you till tomorrow, if you want” He offered with a smile. I stared at him cautiously as I weighed the option in my head. “He's harmless, we can follow him. We need to be well rested because we have a lot to do tomorrow” Prisca’s soothing voice said. She was right, I knew it. She was the one person I could trust because she was my wolf, my second half. My dad always said our wolves were our instincts and the one voice who always had our back. Our wolves were our protector and comforter. It was our gut feeling and we should always give it an opportunity to come out as well because we shared a body and we owe it to them. I never understood it until now. I made up my mind and looked at the blond haired human in front of me. “Thank you, I would really appreciate that” I said with a smile of my own.
