Ethan’s POV I adjusted my maroon tie and stared at my reflection one more time. I was wearing a blue French suit that cost more than a thousand grand. But that wasn't my concern, I felt a pang of guilt as my mind drifted to Tristan, my wolf. I called out to him but he didn't answer. He was at the back of my mind, howling and whining in pain at the loss of his mate. I didn't know how to console him, I was the one who started all this in the first place. I was a mess, sometimes I knew what I was doing but other times I didn't. I treated April and our baby in her womb badly, I left her to die and now Tristan is hurt and angry with me. I was angry with myself too. I took the bottle of cologne from the table by the mirror and sprayed a few times on my suit. I looked at the mirror again and began laughing like a maniac. Why should I be angry anyway? I never did anything wrong ... April was a weak gamma, worse still, she had no wolf. Who would want such a weakling like her? I tried to manage her, I cared for her and showered her with love. I even got her pregnant so she could at least brag about having the almighty Alpha of the Blood moon pack's child. It was Shanice who opened my eyes and told me of the big mistake I was making to me and my pack. Shanice was my pack member and also April’s best friend from as far as I know. She kept the pack's future as top priority as she didn't let her friendship blind her from telling the truth. After giving her a listening ear, I found it hard refuting her words. The Blood moon pack has remained undefeated in the whole of Atlanta for years. Bringing a weak gamma with no wolf as a Luna could spiral us down the rank. It would be a disgrace to my past predecessors and the generations to come would be ashamed to trace their roots back to me. And what about the heir, my son? What's the guarantee that her womb was not as weak as she was? I can't let that happen. Not at all. I started treating her like how she deserved to be treated, how a gamma with no wolf should be treated. Shanice suggested that maybe if we irritate her enough then she would leave on her own. But she didn't, that pesky fly endured everything, she refused to leave. One day, I couldn't stand her anymore so I sent her out. Her stomach was bigger at that time and I could smell a girl in her womb, weak as she. It proved that Shanice was right. I don't know what happened to her afterwards and I didn't care. Tristan went into depression and kept sulking for her, he was always defending her and saying that Shanice was up to no good. He was too in love with a mate who didn't even have a wolf for him to see the truth. I planned on dealing with him later, after I attended the council meeting and told them of my plan to make Shanice the Luna and my choice mate. She deserves it because she has always been loyal to me and the pack, even putting her friendship with April aside and thinking ahead of the pack. That's the loyal people I needed to bring the pack to greater heights. Choice mates were mates we picked ourselves if we never found our true mates or can't be together with them. Plus she was good in bed too. "We both know she can't compare to how we felt with April" Tristan's voice finally spoke up after days in silence. "Oh, he speaks now" I rolled my eyes. "You are not denying it because you know it's true, you love when April shakes in pleasure under you. Her body was meant for us Ethan" He mocked as he laid sadly at the back of my mind. "You know what? I think I prefer your depressed state more. You always know how to spill trash" I hissed irritatedly as I moved away from the mirror. I blocked our connection from any further communication and I stepped out of my room and walked down to the hall room where the meeting was going to take place. I stared proudly at my mansion as I walked, the cream walls gleamed under the light from the numerous Chandeliers that dotted the ceiling. It was matched with gold stairs that sparkled too under the light. It was a house befitting for a king, an alpha of such a powerful pack. I reached the hall room door and a guard on standby opened it for me, I walked in and the council stood up to welcome me. I nodded approvingly before taking my seat. The rest of the council followed after me and took their seats. The council comprised six people, The oldest man in the pack, Odyssey. His white beard was so long that it touched the ground and his eyes have remained closed ever since I knew him. Surprisingly, no one aided him because he could see somehow. He was seated on the chair at my right hand. Next to him was Shanice, her beautiful brunette body making me want to bang the living daylights of her on this table. She winked and eyed me seductively. She was the newest member of the council, I added her on her request. On my left side was my father's beta, Ben. He was much older now and had wrinkles on his small round face. Despite his age, no one in the pack has been able to match up to him in battle except me and my beta, that was why he was still the commander in Chief and supervised the training of pack members. Next to him was his son, my beta, Andy. Andy was the exact replica of his father, except that he was obviously younger than him. He was learning under his father to be the next commander in chief. The fifth person was the empty head seat on the other side of the rectangular table. It was reserved for the Luna and then the sixth person was me. “Let the meeting begin” Odyssey said with a resounding voice. “Let's begin with the usual reports” I said as I relaxed into my chair. Drew stood up and passed me a file. It contained a detailed report on the issues on the pack. “The third pack house has been completed and 20 more people have been accepted into the pack. The pack is growing at a rapid pace, everything is going smoothly” He said. I nodded approvingly as I went through the report. I had great plans for the pack, that's why I needed a strong Luna by my side. “What about the trainees Bowen?” “They are training extra hard for the warrior duel evaluation. I think more than ten of them would be able to join the warriors this year after the evaluation” He reported with a voice beaming with pride. His dream had always been training more warriors to stand like a mighty shield and protect the pack. His respect could literally be measured with how well you can fight. “Interesting... I look forward to the evaluation then” I said with a nod. “What about the children and women, Shanice?” I asked as I turned to face her. I placed her in charge on her request, it was a way of making the people approve of her when the time came. “The children are learning well, we had 15 first shifts last week and they all made it to fully become wolves. I also compiled a list of all the unmated wolves in the pack, They are a total of fifty- three. They are pumped up and ready for the mating ceremony when they join with their mates” She reported with a smile. I nodded and was about to say something when Odyssey interrupted and said, “Speaking of mates, I haven't seen Alina around in a while. The Luna inauguration is in 2 months, isn't she supposed to be here as well?” he asked as he stroked his beards. “April won't be able to join us, neither is she going to be the Luna of this pack” I said casually like I was reporting just another information. “What do you mean Alpha? She is your mate, she is carrying the heir” Odyssey said, his face surprised at what he heard. “I rejected her. I do not want a weak gamma with no wolf as a Luna” I affirmed as I stared at everyone of them with no waver in my gaze and tone. I was the alpha, I feared no one. “A mate is your soulmate and the destined queen, She was specially picked by the moon goddess. There must be a reason why...” I didn't let him finish before I interrupted him, “I pick Shanice to be my choice mate and Luna” I dropped the bomb on them. There was a few seconds of silence before Odyssey spoke out, “unacceptable. This is unacceptable” he said as he stood. “I am the Alpha, Odyssey. You are meant to follow my decisions without objection. I did not tell any of you so I can seek your advice, I am telling you as my council” I said firmly as I stood up and looked all of them in the eyes. "I support you Alpha, we do need a stronger Luna" Bowen spoke up. Shakira's eyes lit up as we all turned to Drew for his opinion. "Whatever the Alpha says is law, who am I to object?" He said, his face carried no emotion. He was a very obedient beta, I knew he would never object. "Let's prepare for the inauguration ceremony then" I announced.
