GREEN LIGHT IS ON: READY

Chairman Lino started to make sure that him deciding to step down as the president of the company was to be known within the organization. He was starting to build up the idea of having a CEO in the company.

Andree had been checking constantly the movement of the company’s shares. The last time he checked, The Chaiman still owns the controlling share of the company and the shares he was acquiring has becoming significant specially if it will be combined with his grandfather’s retention of the controlling shares would follow. Aside from the newly acquired shares, he also owned a certain percentage of founder’s share and made sure I gradually increase the number of shares he owned, and it should be off anyone’s radar. Since outside investor were permitted to get in, the company’s share becomes diluted that he even reached the point where he owned less than 30 percent of the company’s share.

At first, Andree never has any intention of taking this huge CEO responsibility, but upon understanding how important this company is for Lino, he decided to jump in without hesitation. The problem that he had was not knowing The Caran’s proposal or what was the meaning or reason behind the intent of “to partner up” with Ring Gem.

The move to aspire to be the company’s CEO was to entirely to protect the company, It was also to have a wall between the outside world, the employees, and the members of the board. So, what will happen to him is that he will become the company’s facade.

Andree has been waiting for the regular board meeting that was held mid-week, just like any other board meeting it was one of the usual days, Andree told himself that he needed to be there on time. He was able to do it, included in the meeting’s agenda was hiring of the CEO. In today’s meeting as well, Chaiman Lino will be announcing that he would like to step down as the company’s president and would rather dedicate his time as Chairman of the Board of Directors, so the board had to hire a CEO for this matter.

Andree had anticipated that there were those who would suggest or nominate a candidate of their own.  He had already expected that he will be one of those who will be considered in the position, but would have a possibility to be turned down.

During the meeting...

Chairman Lino requested the silence of the members of the board when they got to the agendum where he would announce his decision.

Lino said in a calm voice, “One of the business of the meeting was for me to announce that I have decided that now is the high time to focus more on the needs of the business first above all other things. Change is inevitable, the company needs to adapt to changes, so I intend to let go of the position of president to give way for hiring of our CEO. I would rather focus on the chairmanship of the board; this decision is a choice I made because safeguarding the company, it’s interest and the interests of the shareholders were my priority.”

After that speech, everyone was in shock, some were in awe of his decision to let go of being the organization’s high-ranking officer.

Director Palia raised his hand and spoke; “I am glad that you chose to be fully focused on the chairman of the board’s tasks. “

Director Mila asked, “when shall we start hiring?”

Chairman Lino answered, “The selection of CEO will undergo the normal process of hiring. I have already given the secretary of the board the procedure, but first, we will have to determine an ad hoc transition board committee which will be composed of me, and 4 other board members so to make sure that transition plan will be completed in no time, I want it to be done before this week ends. Qualifications were already given to the secretary of the board and there were also limited forms for any potential candidate that you might want to refer.

“After this meeting we should already have ads posted in classified section of the leading newspapers.”, Director Milano said.

“ I also propose that aside from external applicants, we should also consider our own staff for the position.” Director Lona suggested.

Director Dantes, butted in “Since we are talking about Ring Gem, this news will quickly spread not only among the staff, but to the community as well so I think, Chairman we would need to let them have a brief notification about this.”

“I agree with all the suggestions, Ms, Secretary of the board I am expecting all suggestions were written in the minutes. Anything that we could do right after this meeting, we have to do the soonest.” Chairman Lino said. “We have also hired the most trusted headhunters so they could handle the selection as well.  I trust that the board will be unified in choosing the right CEO.” He added.

Director Dantes rose up and said jokingly, “I assume, I may address you as Chairman now?

Chairman Lino just responded with a smile and said, “Yes, you may, effective now I am not anymore the president.”

“Kidding aside, can we suggest a candidate now during the meeting? I have someone in mind, just part of our potential candidates. Angelo Zales, son of Director Londa. He looked at Director Londa and slightly nodded his head and added, “If you don’t mind?”

The Chairman allowed the shortlisting and spoke, “Anyone else? This may save us time looking for best candidates so we could review resumes as soon as possible.”

The current Vise President for finance, I have heard she was doing well. Besides, she was the grand daughter of the late director Villa.

Director Diaz raised his hand and said, “That kid.”

Director Diaz was pointing at Andree’s direction; It was only him who was sitting there.

Although Andree was certain that he was the only one in that corner, he still tried to check on his left and right side as if there were other people there. he tried to read his mind; he was one of the directors who seldom speaks. Andree was not able to sense any motives.

The Chairman was also caught of guarded by the suggestion, he just said while looking towards the secretary of the board, “Get his name please. “

The secretary of the board asked Andree what his name was,

He responded, “Andree Lakan, mam”

While everyone was busy listing down the names of their candidates, the president spoke,

He said, “I would like to make sure of the balance in the organization. I am not getting any younger and during my younger days, the reason why I got the position of the president was because I always wanted to be hands-on. I wanted to make sure that the company is presented well in the community and to maintain good relationship with peers that are considered as friends and those who see us as an enemy alike.”

Andree felt like it was a talk addressed directly to him, Chairman knew about his quick temper, but he had confidence with his judgments even when he is mad, his sound judgement was never affected.

Andree was never a fan of the idea of being a CEO of any company, for him, to be a CEO is becoming the company’s servant, a disposable as a plastic cup.  That is why he could never understand that there were people dying to get the CEO position. It was a mere waste of time for him.

All he wanted was to be free. He longed for being able to do what he desired without being mindful that he has an organization that he must consider not be negatively afflicted.

He needed to be well behaved to avoid any controversies or issues that may hurt an organization he was representing. In short, he really was not in favor of him being one of those vying for the said position.

“This situation is inevitable, and I know CEOs or founders were disposable, so I have everything planned out already. “ Andree told himself.
