Wesley... 1914
Since my December birthday ball, a lot has happened. I have not been able to find, nor get the mysterious Eleanor off of my mind since the party. Lady Esme and Ezra are engaged, my parents are about ready to pick a lady for me to marry, and Ez and I are being drafted into the Great War against our better judgement. The only women I want is none other than Ellie... I hope she will like that nickname. I don't know how I can explain it, but I know her and am drawn to her. Bloody hell! Why did they have to call her away right when we started talking.
Personally, in regards to the war, Ez and I are hoping this will be over soon. Ezra wants to get married to Lady Es, as soon as possible and was even attempting to do so, but the draft would not allow it. (By draft I mean our parents orders to do our country proud and serve).
Now here we are on the war fronts fight a battle that we should have nothing to do with! Bullocks! At least we get to fight together! I just wish that I could write to her... Ellie I mean... oh damn this all to hell.
I look over to Ezra who is writing his millionth love letter to Her! I love that he is happy, and in truth deserves it; but why can't I have her too! Why can't we be happy with our lives together? Life is so bloody cruel!
"How is she mate?" I question.
Without even looking up he responds, "I hope missing me as much as I do her!"
I cockily reply, " She has responded to every letter hasn't she?"
Ezra glares at me!
I innocently continue, "What?"
"Will you stop being so jealous because of boredom and trench foot have not killed us yet it will be your horrid attitude! It is not my fault we haven't found her yet!" He answers in a paternal-like scolding tone.
Embarrassed at my prior behavior, I say, "You're right, my apologies. I am just so curious about her! I don't want to be in this uncomfortable position, it is starting to get cold, we always have to worry about the Central Powers attacking, even though we are in the safer trench row. I just want to be home looking for her...being the best man at your wedding... seeing my little siblings, Olli, ignoring the parents... reading Melville and Poe... the usual! Instead we are stuck in this horrific war until they can settle their differences!"
"I know, I am in the same boat as you! I cannot imagine not having contact with Lady Esme before. In these short few months before we were 'drafted' we had grown so close. Hell the only reason why my parents approve is because of her wealth and contacts...they fail to see her inner beauty, strength, kindness, grace..." he says trailing off a bit at the end.
I call in a teasing manner, " Lover boy! Oh Lover Boy!"
He gives me the most annoyed glare, but before we have time to tease each other anymore we hear shots being fired and see men in no mans land. Here we go again... oh hell us!
