Chapter 2
I woke up at the first ring of my alarm, starting my morning routine of workout, yoga, and my facials. Today I'm to go on my first date with Jayson and it's not until 5pm. So deciding I'll do my usual till then, I took a shower and dressed for work applying a little makeup. I arrived at the office and met a stack of documents on my table, nothing excites me more than having work to do at the office. Taking my seat, I begin my job of sorting, going through and correcting the mistakes on the documents.
I got so engrossed that I lost track of time. It was already 3:30 pm, so I decided to rush back home to freshen up before going on the date.
After freshening up, I put on a short red silk sleeveless dress with an open back, then I curled my hair and made it fall to my back, applied my make up and put on a bright red lipstick. Satisfied with my look in the mirror, I put on my black heels, carried my black purse, put on a little body spray and left my room.
Walking downstairs, I meet my mum and dad in the living room. After so many compliments from my mum, I got the restaurant address from her and went to my car. Recalling that Maeve asked to see a photo of my outfit for the date, I took a selfie and captioned it “going to take a bite off a zombie” and sent it to her, then started my car engine and drove off.
I got to the restaurant and just as expected, the press were everywhere. The restaurant had a glass wall at the top floor making it a see through but an opaque ground floor. I looked to the side and saw a BMW 7 series, a GLA and a Porsche panamera, All black lined up. Really!? Does he show off this much?
Walking towards the entrance, I was bombarded with a lot of questions from the press, followed by the flashes of light coming from their camera as they took photos of me. A bodyguard came and helped me out of the crown and took me inside the restaurant.
When I got in, I noticed there was no one inside the restaurant except him and four other men on black suits. He probably booked the whole place, I thought as I rolled my eyes.
From where I stood I could feel his aura, it was dominating, imposing and ominous as he spoke on the phone. Then his scent, he smelled like mint.
Walking to the table he sat, I took my seat opposite him and he ended his call and faced me. His eyes were pitch black like his hair, chiseled jaw and a pointy nose. He was beautiful! The navy blue suit he wore, complemented his skin tone. Seeing him physically, I would say that the tabloids, billboards and magazines did him no justice. Looking at him from up close, one could drown in his eyes. Maeve was right, at least I was given a handsome husband and I should be thankful for that. My phone chimed, snapping me back to reality.
It was a reply from Maeve, I opened it and read the message “bite hard, with a funny face emoji” and I smiled.
“Hello, miss Anderson” Jayson said and my attention was once again back to him.
“Mr Peterson,” I called back, placing a small smile on my lips.
“I believe you have been informed already on the need for this date” he said.
“I believe I haven't been informed, and I'd like for you to brush me through on the reason” I lied, wanting to hear what he has to say.
“Well miss Anderson, that was an obvious lie” he said looking at me intently. Not letting my smile fall off, as that would give me away completely, I leaned forward and responded.
“Even the worst psychologist would tell that I was honest”
I picked up the menu as I saw the waiter approach us and ordered a plate of pasta, a bowl of burrito and a glass of wine for myself, waiting for him to place his.
“ Get me a glass of water ” he ordered the waiter. Does he want to watch me eat? What a creep, I thought, as I eyed him from the menu I held.
“You were about to tell me the reason for this date, Mr Peterson” I recalled after I was done eating, hoping that he would give a different excuse. Not that I expected any though.
“If you are done eating Miss Anderson, can we leave?” He asked back ignoring my question.
“That's not an answer to my question, Mr Peterson” I replied and he stared at me for a while.
“This date was fixed so I could get to see what my wife-to-be looked like” he said as he got up and stood behind my seat.
I stood up and he pulled the seat out, grabbed my hands and headed for the door. Why is he acting strange? Looking at his face, I noticed the nonchalant expression was plastered on it.
We were welcomed with flashes from cameras as the press took photos of us when we got outside. He walked me to my car and waited till I unlocked it. I was about to get in when he grabbed my arm. The flashes from the cameras increased as the press came closer to capture the moment.
“The date is mainly for the press” he said and I furrowed my brows as if I didn't know that already.
“If we are to get a hitch-free marriage by next month, it's expected you pretend to be in love with me before then, as that would really help your father's company” he added as he tucked the stray strands of my hair behind my ears.
“See you soon, Miss Anderson” he concluded as he released my arm and walked away to his GLA, his bodyguards following him closely.
I chuckled as I sat in my car and replayed what he just said.
“That would really help your father's company” I mimicked.
Picking up my phone I dialed Maeve and she picked after the first ring
“Girl… I need a drink this night or else I'll go crazy” I requested
“Whose place?” Maeve asked
“Mine” I confirmed and ended the call.
