The News
"Rohan Davis was spotted this afternoon at a restaurant with Artist girlfriend Amber Louis," the news reports read. Mr. Davis, Rohan's dad, bit into an apple. "Wasn't he with Jennifer Lopez last week?" "He changes them like he changes his clothes," Grandma Celeste commented casually, flipping through the magazine on her lap. Mr. Davis shook his head disapprovingly. "I would do anything to stop Rohan from ruining our reputation." "Let's be real; you know that's not possible," Sophia said, breaking the silence. Mr. Davis angrily stood up and collected his phone from the table. He dialed Rohan's number and gave him a call. "Hello, Daddy," Rohan said casually at the other end of the call. "I want you to come home in the next thirty minutes!" Mr. Davis said, his voice tight with anger. "I'm busy. I will come home once I'm done with the thing I'm doing," Rohan said in a calm tone. "You'd better do," Mr. Davis said and ended the call. The atmosphere in the room was quiet, and only the breath of everyone sitting there echoed. Ever since Rachel (Rohan's ex-girlfriend) left Rohan, he had never stayed with another girl for at least two weeks. Sophia is the adopted daughter of the Davis family; she was adopted when she was six years old. Rohan was her brother, but not by blood. Twenty years ago, Sophia was found in front of Mr. Davis' office gate; she was tired, hungry, and looking tattered. That was when Mr. Davis took her into his home, and ever since then, he has treated her like family. Rohan's mother and younger sister never liked Sophia. They feel like Sophia would take part of their wealth, even if she wasn't their blood. While Rohan's dad, grandmother, and grandfather loved her, their grandfather has passed away. Meanwhile, Rohan, on the other hand, changes women like clothes. This causes a lot of trouble for them online. Sophia scrolled through i********:, as she saw lots of bad comments about Rohan. "He changes them like they are nothing," one comment read. "I wonder what his parents are doing about his stupid behavior," another read. Sophia kept on scrolling when Mr. Davis noticed how lost she was on her phone. "Sophia!" he called. "Sophia!" He yelled this time, looking in her direction. "Yes, Daddy," she answered, in shock, raising her head immediately. "Where were you?" "So sorry, Daddy, just scrolling through i********:," she said in a shaking voice. "Let me see what is distracting you," he said, stretching out his right hand towards her. "Okay." Sophia's hands became cold immediately. She slowly handed the phone to him. Mr. Davis scrolled through the phone, reading the bad comments about Rohan. His mood darkened as he read the comments. "Who would want to make a business deal with us, knowing fully well that our son can't even keep a woman for a week?" he yelled. "Everyone will," Mrs. Davis corrected, as she entered the living room with a tray of apples in her hands. "I have to do something before things get out of hand," Rohan's father said angrily. "He is an adult, for crying out loud; he can do anything he wants, he is no longer a baby," Mrs. Davis said, biting into an apple. "So because he is an adult, he can go around sleeping with different women!" Grandma Celeste interrupted. "Let him do what he wants, that's all," Mrs. Davis said, staring at Grandma Celeste disapprovingly. "He won't do what he wants. He is a public figure. Not just any, but a billionaire who would be in charge of the David Enterprises someday," Rohan's father said, handing Sophia her phone as he left the sitting room. The Davis family was a public figure; they lived in a luxurious mansion, had different cars, lots of money, and different servants at every corner. "I wonder what the witch must have shown him that made him so upset," Mrs. Davis yelled at Sophia. "I didn't show him anything, Mom," Sophia answered with a shaken voice. "Don't ever call me that. I'm not your mother, and I will never be," Mrs. Davis said to Sophia angrily, as she crossed her legs. "Don't mind her, dear. You are one of us, no matter what she tells you," Grandma Celeste said, consoling Sophia and using her left hand to pat her shoulder. "I'm fine, Grandma," Sophia said, as she stood up to go upstairs before anyone saw her eyes. "Learn to treat Sophia nicely; she is one of us. The earlier you accept it, the better for you," Grandma Celeste said, as she stood up to go upstairs, leaving just Mrs. Davis in the sitting room. Mrs. Davis always made sure to remind Sophia of her place in the family, which always made her feel bad, and she shed tears. She always reminded Sophia that she was picked up from the street and that different blood ran in their veins. It was dinner time, and Rohan was home already. They all sat as they ate dinner. "Where were you today?" Mr. Davis asked casually, looking in Rohan's direction. "Just out with a friend," Rohan answered, giving a warm smile. "Rohan, what's the fuss you are causing online all about?" Mr. Davis asked, putting a knife in his meatballs. "Dad, people will always talk. I'm just living my life to the fullest, that's all," Rohan answered, giving a charming smile. "You are twenty-eight years old, for crying out loud, and you still act like a baby," Rohan's father said, now staring at Rohan. "I'm not acting like a baby; it's my life, and I will make decisions for myself," Rohan said, raising his voice at his father. Everyone at the dining table was surprised by Rohan's defiance. "You would get married," Mr. Davis yelled, dropping his knife and fork on his plate. "No, I will not. I haven't seen a wife yet," Rohan disapproved, dropping his cutlery on his plate. "But I have," Mr. Davis continued. "And who is that?" Rohan asked in shock. "Sophia," Mr. Davis replied, leaving Mrs. Davis, Grandma Celeste, Rohan, and Sophia shocked. "No. My son would not marry this girl," Mrs. Davis said, pointing her hands at Sophia. "Rohan and Sophia are getting married. And that's final," Mr. Davis said, as he left the dining table. Sophia was shocked. She knew that Mr. Davis' decision was going to cause a lot of drama. "You have finally gotten what you wanted, you witch!" Mrs. Davis yelled. "Don't blame the poor girl. She knows nothing. Everyone is as shocked as you," Grandma Celeste said. "Rohan, my son. Don't worry, you won't marry her. I won't let this happen," she said, looking at him, and continued, walking towards Rohan. Rohan's jaw tightened. Without another word, he turned from his mother and walked away.
